Khalil Greene is an overall above average player because of his power and fielding as a shortstop, but he is hitting too high in the lineup. He shouldn’t ever be above 7th and that’s only because Blum occasionally starts and second base and can’t hit higher than 8th.
David Gassko had this to say about the Ensberg deal the other day:
Ensberg has struggled since tearing a shoulder tendon last season, but I’m not convinced that his days as an All-Star caliber third baseman are over. Ensberg is hitting only .232 this season, but his healthy 19.8% line drive rate indicates that he should be hitting about .318. That would up his OPS to a very healthy .920.
Now perhaps Ensberg’s batting average is down because he just isn’t hitting the ball that hard, even when he hits line drives, but I think it is way too early to write him off.
121, hate to see Kouze land on the bench, but if Ensberg has the hot bat, that is baseball. We gotta start winning. BTW, radio guys saying that Engberg was another Mr. Intensity. Gees, with eberg, MBx2 are we gonna have clubhouse issues? And apparently, Trevor and SA are chirping at each other. Only one solution-winning.
125: The radio guys dont normally know what they are talking about haha they just talk so there is no silence. I have never heard of Ensberg being a problem guy. And Barrett and Bradley have both been here long enough now I think and have proven not to be a problem.
125: I don’t have inside information like the radio guys do, but I have never ever heard anything bad about Ensberg and chemistry or the clubhouse. He’s endured being jerked around a bit in Houston, even when he was better than guys getting starts ahead of him. The sentiment after he got traded seemed to be, great guy, too bad he struggled this year, I hope he goes somewhere and gets untracked.
129, oh yeah, I know, we took Matt Bush instead of Drew (or Verlander, or Jered Weaver, whom I really wanted – shows what I know). Just bemoaning that Drew hits really well against us. Appreciate that he tries to balance it out with his fielding, however
I find that idly dreaming about Bush as the next Trevor eases the sting a little.
Kha is hard to figure, never walks doesn’t work counts, but has 17 jacks, most on the team and may get to 25. Plays a nice SS too. I agree, drop him in the lineup and let him do what he does.
I really wanted Ensberg last year, and now that he is here this year I would love to see him get a good chunk of sharts but I also dont want to see Kouz get a back seat. It finally seems like we dont have a VOID at 3B with decent minor league depth and 2 solid guys on the big club.
You gotta think Ensberg is going to platoon with Kouz and spilt the PT more evenly if he hits like this. We need to win, at this point you play your best players.
Cameron took a pickoff throw in the back of the head/helmet. Think he’s OK…
New guys look real good and Jake looks like JaKKKKKKKKe
HUGE AB for KG right here
KG needs to get streaky right about now.
WP cam scores runners advance. Now a little weiht is off KGs shoulders, no GIDP balls at least
Look at Khalil, intimidating the pitcher into throwing a wild pitch. Attaway, Khalil!
and he strike out…
Come on Bandito!
crap, bard first… be patient marsh… be patient….
On Gonzalez, he’s somewhere between a .250-.330 hitter. Most likely he’ll hover near .290. Batting average varies a lot from yty.
I told you to rip Greene.

Quick inning for Jake
I was referencing post No. 89.
114: Yeah, I know.
Wow Marcus…. wow
This is the start we needed from our Ace
117.
SERIOUSLY!!!
That’s 2 in a row now. I’d say he’s back on track. I’m even more impressed because it’s a day game.
Yeah, I’d say the good Jake showed up today.
This inning could be it for Peavy. Or not.

And Ensberg said today the shoulder is fine, he just wasn’t getting enough regular at bats to get on track..
So does Jake come back for one more?
A. Peavy brought the righteous today.
B. If we never have to see Stephen Drew again, I will be happy. He wears us out.
103 pitches through seven innings.

122: I kind of doubt it

123.
Dare I remind you that we took MB and not SD? He kills us, and we deserve it for passing on him.
129.
I do like it when he throws balls away though!
129: MB?
Matt Bush.
132: Thats right… all we can hope at this point is that Drew leaves the NL West and Bush develops into a good pitcher…

THANK YOU KG… FINALLY!
Khalil, you suck:)
I guess we should have insulted Khalil earlier. The D-Backs do it by walking Gonzalez intentionally, and he homers.
Well done, Khalil. Leave no doubt.
Batt Mush will never be even half of what Trevor Hoffman is
This could be a turning point!!! Man I hope so!
Now that it is 8-0 i cant see them sending Jake out there for another inning.

Ok wow maybe Ensberg just needed a change of scenery.
BANDITO! Morganna, the homerun hitting bandit!!!
PILE IT ON!!! Ensberg!!! Nice first game as a Padre!
NOG, a journey of a thousand miles (to being a league average second baseman) begins with a single step (getting on base somehow in a 10-0 game).
You gotta think Ensberg is going to platoon with Kouz and spilt the PT more evenly if he hits like this. We need to win, at this point you play your best players.
147: Nope that would be too easy he just wants to hit a home run too and join the club
Gameday says he hit a line drive. I will take that as his positive first step.
