IGD: Padres @ Diamondbacks (24 Apr 07)

first pitch: 6:40 p.m. PT
television: Channel 4SD
matchup: David Wells (0-1, 5.06 ERA) vs Randy Johnson (0-0, –)
previews: Padres.com | SI.com

David Wells? Randy Johnson? I think Messrs. Flansburgh and Linnell said it best:

You’re older than you’ve ever been.
And now you’re even older.
And now you’re even older.
And now you’re even older.
You’re older than you’ve ever been.
And now you’re even older.
And now you’re older still.

Johnson makes his first start since returning to the Diamondbacks. Unfortunately he’s had tremendous success against just about everyone on the current Padres roster. Combined, they’re batting just .124/.154/.301 against Johnson in 117 plate appearances. Brian Giles and Mike Cameron account for 60 of those, and it ain’t pretty — they have five hits and 30 strikeouts between them.

The good news? I dunno, I was hoping you might have some. ;-)

  1. Did one of them have the game-winning RBI, the one that put the Padres up for good.

  2. They both have six total bases, but Gonzo added a walk, and he has scored three runs to Greene’s one.

  3. Checked Barfield’s line for first time this season. He and Kouz should talk. Barfield, .123; Kouzmanoff, .122

  4. I’m not sure who drove in the sixth run…Was it Khalil on his triple?

  5. all that pinch-running has gone to Bowen’s head

  6. 151 … that’d be Khalil with his bases-clearing 2B in 5th …

  7. My bad, double.

God I hate the AZ broadcast :-(

  8. Man Bo with a Brain Fart?

  9. 154 Khalil hit the double in the 5th that brought in the 3 runs making it 6 – 5 Pads

  10. Bell’s “coming at you” attitude is starting to remind me of Linebrink… btw, did Grace just suggest that we picked up Bell in a trade with the mets for Barfield? Come on Mark – read the press report! It’s not that tough!!!

  11. 158 … he is tired of walking wants to run ,… LOL

  12. Prime example of why I hate the AZ broacast:

“The Padres got Bell for the Mets when they set Barfield over.”

    Love that informed broadcasting.

  13. *from the Mets

Bell has been a monster. I can’t believe we conned them into taking Ben Johnson for his services.

Slightly off-topic, how is Ring doing?

  14. Yup, it’s official. Mark Grace is a disgrace. Really Mark, do you think there are Yankees fans turning on A-rod because of one 0-3 game???

  16. sweet swining adrian

  17. The king continues his tear.

  18. hr db single …… adrian

  19. Adrian .. HP Walk Single Double ________ HR

needs a triple for a royal flush

  20. #169,
Not to be too cynical, but with his speed the only way AG gets a 3B is if the entire outfield falls down, or if he knocks one out and stops at third. Dude is slow…an awesome player, though.

  21. Too bad Adrian is the last person in the world to ever hit a 3B, well maybe if the right fielder were to fall over, or injure a hamstring

  22. re: 170

    We can dream.

  23. 170/171 ,, the way the Babybacks played the 6th inning .. it is possible .. all though I agree not prabable

  24. An outfielder could misjudge a ball and it could roll to the wall past him. There have been inside-the-park home runs that way.

  25. Adrian has to be one of the slowest players under the age of 30 with two working legs that I’ve ever seen

  26. I have to admit, I was shocked at Brocail making the roster out of ST, thought it was a feel-good gesture, but I’m very impressed by him so far. Gets ahead of guys and works quickly.

  27. 169 … 5 PAs … 5 different outcomes … no outs … that’s an amazing feat right there!

  28. 175 .. he is the best hitting best fielding turtle in the MLB

  29. Can KG set a career high tonite?

  30. Anyone seen the El Hombre! Strat-O-Matic card, I bet if rivals Bochy’s from 1984: stealing E, running 1-8.

  31. Adrian has 2 major league triples and 11 minor league triples. Lots of outfielders falling down

  32. Damn. 4 for 5 with 3 RBI is still not a bad effort.

  33. Re 180 – I’ve actually seen stealing E, running 1-7 back in the day. Somebody like Mike Lavalliere.

  34. The Dogs go into their pen … with Lowe going 111 pitches … Gi’nts up 5-1 in top o’ 8th …

  35. 177 .. I agree … Adrian is so dialed in .. his swing is sweet and his eye is amazing … and he is quiet enough so the rest of the MLB may not really notice …. sometimes I like that no one knows about the Pads … keeps them out of the lime light … Part of Peavy’s problem last year was all the notoriety got to him a bit and he lost his consentration … Now that he has settled down he is dialed in again .. the Jake I have watched since single A

  36. Valverde? This has got to be the most random pitching change ever.

  37. must just need to get Valverde an inning to pitch

  38. Last triple was on August 6, 2006. The classic thing is that Mike Piazza was on first…I can’t imagine what happened to the ball to allow this to happen.

  39. or I should say a batter .. or more

  40. Man Bo 4 walks and a K sad when the line shows 0-1 and you been on base 4 times

  41. if nothing else, Bowen’s OBP will be sittin pretty

  42. Khalil tied career high 4 rbi

  43. No Trevor here? He hasn’t pitched since the 18th

  44. Dodgers are coming back. They’ve scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th.

  45. bettin he threw or will thow a bull pen … I have seen him do that in between long stretchs … usually he does it after the game

  46. …and the Gigante bullpen begins its late inning collapse…5-3, first and third, one out, bottom of the eigth

  47. Gonzo into GIDP, Giants still up by 2.

Crap, that means Benitez is coming in.

  48. Gonzo grounded out .. for the third out … Top 9 for Giants

  49. 5-6-3 and the Gigantes escape in the eigth

  50. come on 41 one more out
