first pitch: 5:30 p.m., PT
television: Fox
matchup: Jon Garland (18-10, 3.50 ERA) vs Roy Oswalt (20-12, 2.94 ERA)
Vince Galloro has a detailed preview of Tuesday night’s contest up at Exile in Wrigleyville. For my part, I’ll just note that this is a very even pitching matchup. Opponents hit .255/.298/.399 against Garland in 2005, .262/.302/.389 against Oswalt.
It’s like how much closer could this matchup get? and the answer is none, none more close.
weird, I just watched Spinal Tap last night. Our brain waves are aligned or something.
no geoff
it is not even
bud selig has decided to do his best to makes sure the sox win by keeping the roof open. so we are most definitely gonna lose and you might as well joing the rest of the country by refusing to watch.

Interesting take, Lisa. I haven’t seen what the Astros’ record is with roof open vs closed. Does having it closed give them a significant advantage?
Follow-up on the roof situation at Baseball Musings:

Astros are 15-11 w/roof open, 39-18 w/roof closed. Shades of Curt Schilling when he was with the D’backs. I wonder what Roy Oswalt thinks, or if he even cares?
So far Oswalt appears to be handling the open roof better than the fans. He’s a stud, he’ll be fine.
Okay, so maybe Oswalt won’t be fine. Wonder how much we’ll hear about the roof tomorrow regardless of the outcome. It’ll be a scapegoat or a galvanizing force depending on who wins.
How in heck does Podsednik bunt into a double play? We go to the bottom of the 13th. I said it would be a close game, but this is ridiculous.
Ensberg starts a brilliant double play on a smash down the line off the bat of Konerko.
Former Padre Geoff Blum is up.
OMG, Blummer hit a homer. Unreal.
The Astros aren’t going quietly. Game 2 starter Mark Buehrle enters with two out in the 14th to try and nail down the save. Buehrle hasn’t made a relief appearance since 2000 and is 0-for-2 in save opps for his career.
Buehrle gets the final out and earns his first big-league save. Astros have big problems.
