It’s beginning to look a lot like Opening Day. What better time to bust out an esoteric table:

Jake Peavy: 2007 Starts by Percentage of Pitches for Strikes
Str/Pit GS IP/GS H/9 HR/9 BB/9 K/9 ERA W-L RS/G RA/G
Statistics are courtesy of Baseball-Reference.
>.66 10 6.80 5.16 0.40 2.51 11.25 1.72 8-1 6.70 2.60
.63-.66 15 6.60 7.64 0.45 2.36 9.00 2.36 6-4 3.73 2.87
<.63 9 6.30 7.31 0.79 3.65 8.89 3.81 5-1 6.44 3.78

Throwing strikes is good. Apparently so is having your teammates score lots of runs.

  1. Wish I could be downtown tonight. 45 minutes to go.

  2. my prediction: 3-1 padres win late off a KK 2 run shot in the 8th Bell gets the win Hoffy gets the save.

  3. Here we go…this is what I get for moving to Atlanta – praying for the occasional ESPN telecast and shelling out $120 for MLB.TV. Ain’t technology wonderful?

Glad to see familiar names – it’s been a long offseason. The Colorado game was (just about) six months ago tonight…

  4. Woohoo! First pitch coming up.
    Welcome back, DSers.

  5. 4: Let us not speak of Game 163.

  6. I feel as giddy as a little kid on Christmas morning.

  7. I bought a High Def TV recently and I’m so stoked to be able to watch the games in high def. I’ve been waiting for this day since the day I bought this thing. I already told the whole family that the living room is mine tonight.

  8. Awesome! The countdown says 21 minutes!

  9. Jon, I bought my 42″ HD plasma just for the Pads and Charger games!

Glad to see we got rid of Slient L.

  10. 10: Rick, I went with 42″ LCD. The glare would’ve been bad at my place for a plasma, from what I was told. Let’s just say I had people coming over to watch the Super Bowl.

I second your Silent L statement.

Here’s to a good season everyone and Thanks GY for making this possible.

  11. ESPN has been weird with the black-outs today. They are lasting too long. I am hoping the black-out from the Angels game doesnt last deep into the Padres game.

  12. Good luck to your Padres. My Phillies didn’t fare so well today.

Any truth to the concerns that have been floating around about Jake Peavy’s mechanics begging for elbow problems?

  13. First pitch is next. Woo!

  14. 11: LCD>Plasma. Good choice. I just bought a 40″ LCD, baseball has looked beautiful all day.

  15. I brought this up earlier but why is Khalil batting 6th? Does it make sense to bat your worst hitter there instead of 8th?

  16. #13: Bill, I just know that he and CY were working on change-ups this spring.

  17. Sadly, my computer is not in the same room as our big screen.

  18. 16: Bud’s an optimist? Good question, although we have no idea if P-Mac is better than Greene at this point.

  19. Amazing how good Oswalt has been since he’s been in the Majors. His worst season was ’04 with a 125 ERA+.

This should be a great game.

  20. Hey, my 12 year old just played Take Me Out to the Ball Game on the piano in his room. It was great. Four years of piano lessons have finally paid off. Go Padres!

  21. they say you can tell a lot about how the season’s going to go from the first pitch…

    nice!

  22. This ESPN b-quad announcing crew isnt doin it for me. The Padres need to play small ball, the Padres have no offence and the Padre’s catchers are terrible comments get old quick.

  23. Adriaaaan. Nice catch to get Jake out of that one.

  24. Looks like everyone’s a little rusty… including the cameramen.

  25. That first inning seems to normally be the toughest for Jake. Happy to see him get through it even though it wasnt exactly “pretty”

OT: TG Jr. 2-3 with and RBI and SB today, not too shabby.

  26. 21: That’s awesome.

Jake throwing alot of pitches like usual. Oh well. Got him a CY last year.

  27. 23 – agreed. The announcers are hard on the ears.

  28. GOOOOOCH! Niiiiiiice

  29. Nice. Does Iguchi have a Ducksnorts nickname? If not, might I suggest “Gooch”?

  30. Konichiwa Iguchi san.

  31. “Up the middle” single by Kouz. 1st and 3rd 1 out. Lets turn a new leaf Padres! Forget all the LOB from last year.

  32. Oswalt is gonna have a nice big bruise from that one!

  33. “Gooch” sounds to me a lot like “Gook”. :-/

  34. I am pretty sure Gooch has followed Iguchi from each team he has been on.

Good job Pads, make Oswalt work

  35. Oswalt’s curve is sick

  36. 36: Too true. Hairston looked over-matched.

  37. The president was roundly booed last night, but he is not the reason the park is hard to get to.

There are about five parking spaces there. The shuttle leaves you five blocks from the park. You can take the Metro, but it’s a shit neighborhood.

There is a lot of excitement about the park, but here in the office, where we are all cynical, we don’t know if it will last the whole season.

  38. Jake looks like he settled in. His stuff is moving and going for strikes.

  39. The gun on ESPN has gotta be off, I dont think jake has really ever thrown a pitch 75 MPH.

  40. 37: Greene looked just as over-matched.

  41. Shakespeare! Great wheels, turning a triple into a double.

  42. 41: That Oswalt guy is pretty good.

  43. Way to go P-Mac!

  44. 42: Bardo could use a second gear.

  45. All right P-Mac. 1st and 3rd 1 out again. Lets see if they let jake hit

  46. Ok, I really hate having Peavy bunt here.

  47. Jake Peavy with the hardest contact of the night.

  48. Next, they’ll ask Jake to catch for himself.
