From the Baseball America 2004 Prospect Handbook (aff link), here’s a quick look back at two Montreal Expos prospects:
#9: Terrmel Sledge, OF:
Sledge needs to add more power in order to start on a corner. He needs to work on his routes on fly balls and his throwing.
#19: Chris Young, RHP:
…he developed slowly and fell out of favor with the new regime after general manager Dave Littlefield took over. Pittsburgh traded Young and righthander Jon Searles for Matt Herges in December 2002, then released Herges at the end of spring training.
Yep, there were 18 prospects rated more highly than CY in the Expos system in ’04. Of those, guys currently in the big leagues include RHP Chad Cordero (#5), RHP Shawn Hill (#6), RHP Darrell Rasner (#7), Sledge, OF Ryan Church (#10), RHP Jason Bergmann (#12), and Jerry Owens (#17).
Now you know why I don’t sweat too much over what some experts might think about, say, Matt Antonelli…
The Padres are getting about what they should have expected as far as games played by Bradley. I see him playing 190 of 395 (48%) in 2005,06,& 07 pre-acquisition, and 29 of 59 (49%) once he started playing for SD. Then again, KC rejected their trade for him due to injury questions. At this point we gotta hope he plays half the remaining games— the last half.
#1: I totally agree with your last sentence.
This is going to be a BIG weekend for San Diego sports. The Padres really need to hang on to their bid for the wildcard.
The Chargers going into New England with this big scandal hanging over Belichick and his organization and Moss with a potential “team decision.” I’m anticipating that game with some trepidation.
Go Padres! Go Chargers!
I’m here at the game. It is the smallest Friday crowd I have seen this year. Come on people. It’s still a race.
Old school uniforms lookin nice!
Man, I love the uni’s….. my favorite Padres uniform of all time (the current navy blue’s are second).
I’ve never understood the facination with mustard yellow and turd brown.
Looks like CY has found his placement and speed again (thank God).
#6: On the other hand, unfortunately so has Barry Zito.
Phillies win. 3-2
What uni’s are they wearing? The blue and orange will forever be my faves…
Blue and orange pinstripes tonight…team looks awful flat tonight
Yes!!! – best uni’s ever!!!
Alright Kooooooouz!
Beam us up Scotty…and when I say beam I mean hit a HR
Bring back Sledge!
How many times this year have we left the bases loaded and not capitalized on it? This is seriously f*cked up (sorry for the French)!
Bring back Uncle Milty
#15: The french is needed sometimes to describe the frustration of bases loaded left on.
#17: It is. However, I don’t like exposing your son Danny to that language.
We picked a really bad time to go ice cold.
When you have as big a lead (in the wild card) this late in the season, you really have to work hard to blow it.
Friars better fix this soon, our this will be the most painful off-season in a long time.
CY looks really good tonight. His control seems to be mostly back, and his fastball is back up to the low 90s.
#20: The problem has been that they can’t knock the runners in. I’d bet my Vette that we are at the bottom of the pile in RBIs in MLB after the break this year.
KOOOOOOOOOOOOOUZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#18 Thanks for thinking of Danny and that’s why I refrain from my usual slang BUT every once in a while its a good time to teach ‘em that sometimes they’ll hear that stuff. First time I took my wife to Padres vs Dodgers there were 6 fights and tons of F Bombs in left field Qualcomm. That was her first ballgame. She must’ve liked cuz were going tomorrow night. GO KOOOOOOOZZZZZZZZZHRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KOOOZ is HOOOT!
KOUUUUUUUUUZZZ!!!!!!!
I thought Josh nailed that. Damn.
New ball game……………cmon Padres………….
Man, we need this game. Each win means we gain on someone. CY looks much sharper tonight – after that one bad inning he’s been rock solid.
dangnabit!
Sledge is overdue to turn on one.
Finally……a good late innings at bat for Sledge.
That was a digusting AB from Cameron….not his fault — then his.
That pitch for called strike three was outside. Another crappy minor league umpire behind the plate tonight.
Well, that Cameron K wasn’t a surprise now was it ? He strikes out A TON.
He always strikes out. I’m headed to bed…..I’m a bad Padre fan for it….but we gonna lose…………………..Good luck.
At Lake Elsinore, the Storm win 3-2 to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five series. Now take a bus to San Jose. Tonight. Ahhh, the perks of Class A baseball.
The worst part about losing is that it will be due to not being able to get the opposing pitcher with two outs and giving up a two-out triple followed by a wild pitch.
At least the Dodgers have taken a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth….
38: So that they end up 1/2 game behind us for the wild card if these results hold up? No thanks.
Why doesn’t it seem like every stolen base comes back to haunt us these days?
38 & 39: The way they’re playing now, I’d be willing to concede the division and would be thrilled with being the wild card team.
41: ditto. Dodgers are a little scary right now. Took them ’til September to figure out they should sit the old guys, and just let Loney, Ethier, Kemp, etc, play.
Too bad we didn’t have Chris Young playing second base last inning to catch that Klesko hit.
Stop the torture!!! I hope we loose 10 in a row and are mathmatically eliminated so I and the rest of DS can live again. This team is the most torturous of all. Pathetic, waiting for Jenga to return so they can have some fire. God damn it!!!! The fricking giants and we don’t even give it a good go.
There, I said it, may I be damned from DS forever for being down on the team, maybe I;m a lousy Padre fan, but at least I said what we are all feeling.
Alas, I am too weak to be a baseball fan.
Hairston gives PM hope… or is it just more cruelty…
Well with Tomko starting tomorrow we should be out of the wildcard lead. I guess I’ll start rooting for the Phillies because I dont want the Dodgers to get it.
Stansberry… yup, just who you want with the season in the balance…
44: PM, I’m with you – if they can’t find it in themselves to actually win some games down the stretch, why get your hopes up that they’ll suddenly pull their heads out for the playoffs?
Yes, I know, St Louis did it last year.
Do I want them to win? Of course, but they’re hardly playing inspiring baseball at the critical part of the season.
Their best hope of doing well in the postseason is to rest CY and Jenga and hope they recover 100% to carry the team.
AAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH
Giles almost had one.
