Game #151 time:7:05 p.m. PT tv:4SD sp:Chris Young (9-7, 2.77) vs Ian Snell (9-12, 3.92) pre:Padres.com, B-R.com Chris Young is 1-4 with a 4.30 ERA in 10 starts since the All-Star break. Opponents are hitting just .161/.273/.294 against him during that stretch. Wait, do you smell something? I think it's a disconnect. Ian Snell, meanwhile, is giving a clinic on second-half meltdowns. He is 2-7 with a 5.40 ERA in 13 starts, and a much more sensible .302/.363/.511 opponent batting line.

Game #146 time:7:05 p.m. PT tv:4SD sp:Chris Young (9-7, 2.72) vs Barry Zito (9-12, 4.46) pre:Padres.com, B-R.com From the Baseball America 2004 Prospect Handbook (aff link), here's a quick look back at two Montreal Expos prospects: #9: Terrmel Sledge, OF: Sledge needs to add more power in order to start on a corner. He needs to work on his routes on fly balls and his throwing. #19: Chris Young, RHP: ...he developed slowly and fell out of favor with the new regime after general manager Dave Littlefield took over. Pittsburgh traded Young and righthander Jon Searles for Matt Herges in December 2002, then ...

Game #142 time:12:05 p.m. PT tv:4SD sp:Chris Young (9-6, 2.63) vs Josh Fogg (8-9, 5.01) pre:Padres.com, B-R.com I liked this pitching matchup a lot better in July. Now would be a good time for Chris Young to remember that he's a dominant big-league pitcher and not some guy who can't find his command. In other news, according to the U-T, "there is no timetable" for Milton Bradley's return. Has there ever been a more appropriate nickname for a ballplayer than Jenga is for Bradley? We admire the skill required to build the tower, ...

Game #138 time:6:40 p.m. PT tv:4SD sp:Chris Young (9-5, 2.38) vs Doug Davis (12-11, 4.09) pre:Padres.com, B-R.com As noted in Tuesday morning's comments, the Padres have signed journeyman right-hander Brett Tomko for the stretch run. Tomko, a mainstay in the Padres rotation back in 2002, was a second-round pick of the Cincinnati Reds in 1995. He and Jarrod Washburn were the best pitchers taken that round, which is damning with faint praise. Tomko also rejoins Mike Cameron, with whom he once was traded for Ken Griffey Jr. Eh, there's more, but even I've lost interest...

Game #132 time:7:05 p.m. PT tv:4SD sp:Chris Young (9-4, 2.12) vs Doug Davis (11-11, 4.09) pre:Padres.com, B-R.com How sweet would a sweep be? Pretty sweet. Also, is it just me or is anyone else offended by the fact that the pitcher with the best ERA in the league (Chris Young) has the same number of wins as the pitcher with the worst ERA in the league (Adam Eaton, 9-8, 6.23)?
