This kid made a lot of Padres hitters schwing and Misch the last time he faced them. Thanks, you’re much too kind; please stop throwing vegetables.

  1. 43 – I was asking the same thing earlier. I think personally I take him out, but I don’t think that’s gonna happen. That being said, if it’s a laugher after 6 Jake should be on the way out.

  2. 47: Have a bit of faith in the pen; after all, it’s only the best one in MLB. But I agree, let Jake go 6 if he continues to be efficient, and get him out of there.

  3. RE: 43

Let Jake get into the official game category, get him in place to get his 19th win and THEN think about pulling him… But it’s not the pitch count that is the issue, it’s the between-starts routine. Jake is young enough and strong enough. The difference between 65 and 85 pitches is negligible. Now, the difference between 85 and 105 could be significant…

  4. 49. I agree.

I say Jake throws no more than 80 pitches tonight.
We’re up 7, get Jake the win, but then get him out of there and tell the bullpen to hold the fort, we may very well need Jake again.

  5. 52: The ‘pen has been up and down, I wouldnt say its the best in MLB, but out back end is very good

  6. Way to make a statement tonight.

  7. Not too smart by Blum. I think Peavy is done after the next inning. Not only do you save him for a potential start on the last day of the season, you save his arm for the potential starts in the playoffs.

  8. Who needs Milton Bradley anyway?

  9. 57: Do you think Bud is smart enough to do that? I dont…

  10. Is Bradley available to PH, Kirk Gibson style?

  11. 61. on Gibby’s HR, the call “I don’t believe what I just saw” will always be one of the 5 best calls in sports history…

of course number 1 will always be “Do you believe in miracles? YES!”

  12. Jake still without a strikeout tonight. He has been pitching efficiently though.

  13. My one post for the night: The strike zone for Ortmeir was “it’s a ball unless he swings.” Three pitches in the zone and all called for balls.

  14. The Ole’ Play! LOL

  15. Anybody seen the lineup the Dogs trotted out there tonight? Grady is playing the ‘kids’ tonight…Pierre, Loney, and Ethier are the only regulars. That’s kind of irritating – does he remember that the Rockies are alive and quite well in this race?

  16. re 61:

“THE BAND IS ON THE FIELD!”

  17. 63: I agree, I said earlier he Jake wasnt getting the corners at all.

  18. A three way tie in the NL East isn’t that unlikely. If the Braves win their last 4 games (@PHI, 3@HOU), the Mets lose their last four (vsWSH, 3vsFLA) and the Phillies lose to the Braves tomorrow and then win 1 of 3 vs WSH all those teams would be tied. Unlikely but possible.

The NL West will be a lot harder since the Rockies and the Dbacks finish off with 3 in Colorado so they’d have to be an odd number of games each other before they play. If the scores hold tonight, then if the Rockies win and Dbacks lose tomorrow and then the Rockies take 2 of 3 from the Dbacks and the Padres split with the Brewers then they will all tie for the NL West. And then I guess then the Cubs and Brewers could tie for the NL Central league. All 8 or even 6 teams couldn’t tie each other but there could be a ton of playoffs game.

  19. Does OG look oranger than usual tonight?

  20. wow, keep hitting it to LF

  21. KOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  22. Wow great hitting by Kouz there. He went down and ripped that ball.

  23. KOUZ! Alright, let’s call it a night for Jake.

  24. Can Kouz be any hotter? Sure is nice running Barry’s azz off for his final game in SF (and possibly his final game against the Pads).

  25. I love it when professional athletes perform some portion of their sport worse than I do. So far I have:

    Shaq’s free throws
    Adrian Gonzalez’ foot speed
    Juan Pierre’s throwing arm
    Barry Bonds’ range

  26. 73: I second that.

  27. Giles looks funny as hell when he runs because he takes those little strides.

  28. 75: I still bet you are worse than all of them in those catagories haha

  29. Bud is gonna have Jake throw 100 pitches, even though he should be out of the game now. 7 runs is enough haha

  30. aw cmon, does peavy really need to pitch this inning?

  31. I hope Jake fans Barry here!

  32. Flied him out!!!!!!!

  33. You know Bonds just thanked Jake for going after him all 3 AB’s. Thats the classiest thing he has probably done in his whole life.

  34. Back from Back to School Night. Everyone is in good moods……..must mean we ‘re up by a large margin. Let’s cut the throats of every oppponent from here on. Forgive my violence.
    Ha ha. GO PADS

  35. The Ch4 crew mentioned whether Jake had changed his approach tonight since he had not struck anyone out. In the parts of the game that I have seen, it seemed to me that he might be pitching to contact instead of max-effort on most pitches. Either that or he doesn’t have his best stuff tonight. Does that sound right?

  36. Kind of a cool moment actually, even with my personal disdain for Barry.

He has moments when he seems human and even kinda fun. But those moments usually just emphasize to me what a jerk he is, and they make me think, “what a waste.”

  37. 85: He definitely doesnt have the same late movement. He could be doing it be design, he could just not quite have his stuff tonight. Either way he hit his spots and pitched well and we finally gave him some support.

  38. Everyone has their bad sides, some are just more visible than others. I don’t think guys like Barry or Bradley are really much worse people than most.

  39. Jake is hitting… I knew Bud would do this. The only logic I see is saving the ‘pen for Cassel and Maddux and the tough Brewers series.

  40. Even the Giants announcers are questioning why Jake is still in the game

  41. 65: That lineup the Dodgers trotted out is pathetic. I know they just got eliminated, but they are not doing anyone any favors with their play over the past week. To top it off, after the local media controversy over their “youth movement,” they send out this bunch in a game that has huge playoff implications. Hey guys, you do realize it’s Josh Fogg on the mound? Sheesh.

  42. Looks like Jake’s 3 day rest start against Arizona has convinced Bud that there’s no way he can start again on the final game of the season Or Bud is thinking that the last game of the season isn’t going to matter.

  43. I think Bud is thinking ahead, just not in the way I thought. He’s trying to save the bully for what will be a hard fought couple of games (at the least) in MIL. However, with an 8-run lead, i’m not sure why Jake is still in there at all.

  44. Suddenly the zone expands to K giles a a breaker high and outside

  45. I bet Jake’s been chirping to stay in the game for the past 3 innings

  46. Bud is probably making sure Jake gets enough work that he doesn’t ask publicly to start on short rest again.

Actually I think he’s trying to save the bullpen and I think it’s the right move.

  47. 91: Honestly though why should the dodgers care? Its not like the Giants put up a stellar line-up or starter against us

  48. #86: Right on. “What a waste”

Imagine if he was a great human being who hit 800 HR’s….

  49. Lets let some of the kids finish it. Macias in CF?

  50. Why do so many people care that Bonds is a jerk? Does it affect you at all? Who cares? Is it jealousy? We don’t know almost anything about his private life except for the things that show him in a negative light (his adultery for example). For all we know he gives away $10m a year to charity.
