IGD: Padres @ Brewers (27 Sep 07)

Game #159

tv: 4SD
sp: Jack Cassel (1-1, 4.00) vs Yovani Gallardo (9-4, 3.59)
pre: Padres.com, B-R.com

Is there anything you wouldn’t do to get either Prince Fielder or Ryan Braun in your lineup? On the bright side, Yovani Gallardo is Milwaukee’s only good pitcher. If the Padres can steal one Thursday night…

  1. Just thought I’d throw this out there to answer a few remaining questions about potential tie-breakers:

With New York’s big lead gone following nine losses in 13 games, the commissioner’s office held flips Thursday in case the Mets wind up in a tie for the wild-card lead. The Mets would host Arizona and San Diego, and they would play at Colorado.

New York began Thursday at 87-71, one game ahead of Philadelphia in the NL East. San Diego also was 87-71, one game in front of the Phillies and Rockies (both 86-72) in the wild-card race.

Arizona (89-70), which boosted its NL West lead with an 8-0 win at Pittsburgh on Thursday, went 0-4 in wild-card coin flips and also would be on the road at Colorado, Philadelphia and San Diego.

Flips held Sept. 7 determined that the Mets would be at the Phillies if they tie for the NL East. In the NL West, Colorado and San Diego would be at Arizona, and Colorado would be at San Diego.

In the wild-card race, Philadelphia would be at Colorado and San Diego, and the Padres would be at Colorado.

If there is a tie in the NL Central, Milwaukee would play at the Chicago Cubs.

  2. You know whats scary… He may be there only good pitcher, but we tend to hit the good ones and sleep on the bad ones.

  3. Phillies up 4-0 early on the Braves and Smoltz..

  4. Phil on the clubhouse with a win, now its putt for dough time for the Padres. Guess we are facing a good pitcher, lets gets some hits and score some runs. I hope the Nationals aren’t mailing it in like the fricking Dodgers, Christ almighty.

So for Az Col, I guess we route like hell for the rocks to end the season with a 13-game win streak.

  5. Scratch that last post, and I have not had my first beer. Phils are winning 4-0 over braves, but that Philly bullpen likes to play with matches.

  6. 6-0 Phillies in the 3rd… Smoltz is getting rocked

  7. The damn Rockies don’t even lose coin flips anymore

  8. Um Nats just got done sweeping the Mets

  9. 4: The Nats played hard all weekend, I highly doubt they are mailing it in

  10. #1: Thanks for clearing that up. There was a little confussion last night over that.

  11. Ugly start to the evening for the offense. We’ve got to win tonite, especially with AZ already winning and Philly absolutely pounding the Braves.

  12. Hmm, the FSN announcers seem to think highly of Khalil.

  13. FSN announcers…which ones? Come on I already gave up, I’ll even carry the pitchfork if KG is traded

  14. 13: Alright, I’ll abide by a truce. I watch all my games on MLB.TV, so its the FSN Wisconsin crew.

  15. Okay, so I’m hoping for a big A-gon series. Let’s get three homers and 9 RBI…. oh well, not this at bat…

  16. That totally should have been an out.

  17. Wow theres the pattented Braun defense and FSN in Mil. just said Greene runs well hahaha.

  18. 17: It’s not like he’s pulling a trailer.

15: Adrian needs to get it going quickly.

  19. Cripes. Up 2-0 in the count and Bardo strikes out.

  20. Gallardo is looing like Cy Young tonight. Geesh!

  21. If they could do 2 things offensively I think it might be helpful:

    A) Do NOT swing at fastball’s which are eye level
    B) Do NOT swing at changeups which are landing within 2 inches of home plate

  22. I think we are a slightly better team then the Brewers so, we should win. But after the top of the third, its back to Silent L.

  23. 21: Like T. Gwynn always says about the change: if it’s low let it go, if it’s high let it fly.

  24. Hairston should have caught that ball.

  25. Hairston took an interesting route to that fly ball off the bat of Fielder.

  26. Why were they bunting here? Ned Yost must be calling the shots from the clubhouse.

  27. So let me get this straight… their #5 hitter was just given the bunt sign twice… IN THE SECOND INNING?!?!?

  28. Whats the problem with channel 4!!!!

  29. Thank God Fielder is slow. It’s gonna take some serious doing to get Fielder over without them being legitimate knocks.

  30. 29: SHHHHHHHHHH.. that’s a really dangerous thought…. you’ve totally set up the homerun now…

  31. 30: Leadoff double is wasted. Let’s hope that only happens to the Brewers tonite, and not us.

  32. 28: It’s just the HD feed that’s screwed up. Regular channel 4 should be ok. Cox is working to get 704 fixed asap.

  33. Great time for CH 4 to completely SUCK!!!!!

  34. Oops, I was wrong. They’re saying it’s both 4 and 704.

  35. Lucky bunt for Jack there!

  36. I love “in play, no out.” Especially when (I assume) it was a sac bunt.

  37. ATL closing the gap, 6-3 bottom 6th.

  38. How many times have we seen bases loaded, no outs and f*ck it up?

  39. Scott Hairston, superhero…

  40. #39: It turned out rather well this time! Way to go Hairston!!!

  41. GameDay’s totally frozen. Tell me that’s The Big Fly!

  42. If you want to see some Kouz-like minor league numbers, Peter Friberg reminded me today what Scott Hairston did in the minors …

    http://thebaseballcube.com/players/H/Scott-Hairston.shtml

    … superhero, indeed!

  43. HAIR-STON . . . HAIR-STON!!!!

  44. 42 … bases clearing double … close ‘nuf, huh?

  45. Four runs notwithstanding, this kid’s got filthy stuff.

  46. LaForest now PH-ing for Philly …

    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=270927122

    … ah … he GIDP’d … cool!

  47. 43: Hairston was consistently a top prospect. In 2003 BA ranked him the 23rd best prospect in the game. He was AZ’s top prospect that year.

  48. Hairston is probably deserving of a DS nickname at this point . . .

  49. 46 … so the sooner we knock him out, the better!
