Clay and Elmer… Sounds more like a pre-school art class than a big-league ballgame, but whatever. Go Padres!

Glad to see Clay rather than Wilfredo. I am cautiously optimistic that Clay can find his ‘06 form. Tough lineup against whom to find one’s groove, but, this is the big leagues, so now is a very good time to do so.
Go Pads.
Your cautious optimism is the kiss of doom, jay. I was cautiously optimistic about Wilfredo before his start, and look where that got us.
OT … check out what the Gi’nts are doing tonight …
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=270816115
… they’ve scored in all 7 innings so far … first 4 on HRs … last 3 on SFs … odd …
Man, the Guess the Attendance thing is rigged. First my fiance guessed earlier this year and won a Mike Cameron ball and now my dad is doing it tonite (no prize has been annoucned yet). Grr.
OT … it’s still hard for me to believe that Brian Lawrence is in the Mets rotation …

D-backs win …
Clay and Elmer are characters on Sesame Street right??
Welcome back Matty V!!!!
8: Indeed, I’m thrilled about that too.
F’ing D-backs. Don’t they know how to lose?
Think they’re going to change the call?
apparently not..
Sledge clearly had that.
10: Doubtful, but it was a nice play by Sledge. Great effort. Totally obvious that he made the catch.
now it’s gonna cost us a run… jeez…
Shit. Thanks a lot ump
Blum has to knock that ball down…..it was a crappy throw but he has to keep that ball from going into center field
16: Yeah, I’d rather have him in LF than 2nd. God that just really takes the win out of your sails. Talk about bad luck rearing its ugly head again
That’s a really frustrating half farme. We’d better not be the Punchless Pads tonite and pick Clay up.
Yep…Clay deserves better than that…. we can’t lose to Elmer freakin dessens..
nice inning guys…do they realize that they are allowed to beat up on a sad sack pitcher like this clown right?
20: Cameron has been pretty terrible at the dish of late. He’s K’ed looking wayyyy too many times.
and here we go…
Great. This is shaping up to be a fun game.
I’d love for Krasohack to ask Buddy why a team which is suppose to rely on pitching and defense continues to play Blum 2/3rds of the time at 2B where he is clearly one of the worst defensive players in the league.
#24 If the offense could stand to get zero offensive production out of the second base slot (M.Giles) then I would agree with you.
Hensley has had no command all season and tonight is no different.
re 25: You really think Blum is that better then NOG? I know NOG has been terrible this year, but I don’t think there has been a single season over the past 10 that Blum has been better offensively.
Thank you Adrian.
OT: I was just looking through the Official MLB Rules on-line and cannot find where it says a batter in the On-Deck Circle has to stay in the circle. Any help?
Terrible AB by Khalil. Come ON Padres. Figure it out!
Speaking of tickets….I have 2 tickets to the game on 8/30 vs. Arizona..good seats..
FB 110 45 2-1
Field Box..section 110, row 45…seats 1-2.
I paid $48 per ticket and would love to get back what I paid…..
Anyone Interested??
OG!!!!!!
With a good showing in his two starts over the next week and a half, LaForest could take that backup position away from Michael Barrett. The Pads could employ three catchers and perhaps send down the weak hitting Termel Sledge in a few days or so if Bradley finally gets healthy.
Oh Thank God. Keep it going boys.
So…when one of the guys with Padres on their shirts touches the 5 sided base we get to put a run under our name?? Very interesting…wish we could do that more often..
Uncle Milty, we miss you! Come back to us soon!
No chance for B(l)um to hit into a DP right now.
37: He could still line into a DP. Don’t say that. TERRIBLE CALL UMP!!!
I’m freaking fired up tonite. We can’t lose this game and I’m pissed about the bad calls.
OMG!!! Silent L ties it up!!!
oh my god….another hit with a man in scoring position…
Tie game!
Silent L should’ve been tagging on that play to get into scoring position
Cammy wanted that ball to land on the beach.
Get it done Khalil, we need a knock right here.
44: I guess I’m thinking ahead here…
44? Gonzalez is up… what game are you watching?
I guess we really shouldn’t bitch about the offense since we’re outhitting the best offensive team in the NL.
I take it back Blum
#46: Phantom is ‘Fired Up,’ so he’s entitled to a mistake once in a while. LOL!
#49: Absolutely… anyone have a guess (without looking) to the Aflac trivia question??
Nice catch Sledge.
51: Yeah, I was a little nervous about that myself.
Damn, how many shallow flys have we hit tonite?
#48 – If Giles was having just a little bit better of a year than he would would be in there everyday but his performance has been shockingly bad (what is he hitting since the slide in late May-it must be about a buck eighty ?)
Blum seems to be “on” for nearly every plate appearance – even when he gets out he usually hits the ball hard and has been a better contact hitter this year than in the past.
I’d take some Secret Pop right now…
Ugh, come on guys.
God, you can’t even script that even worse. Son of a bitch Padres.
This is going south really quick.
No one throwing in the pen ? Surprising to say the least.
5th innning and we’re giving up all sorts of runs….did David Wells start this game??
Matty V just echoed my thoughts…
I’m done for the nite. 4 games back and tied with the Rox, here we come.
Seriously, what’s it gonna take right?
Well, it looks like another starter will get a shot at the 5th starter spot. Who will get the next crack ?
62: I’m only 38 and I throw a mean knuckleball…think they’ll give me a tryout?
This has just turned ugly – not just the game, but the season. I have remained hopeful, hoping that Arizona’s terrible RS/RA would catch up, but this Padres team is so inept in so many places that it doesn’t matter. I’m going to cross my fingers for a shot at the WC, but I really do think this is the ultimate low point of the season – losing a series at home to the team nipping our heels.
I am a Padres fan but I just can’t get with this current team. Good night and good luck.
MIKE CAMERON IN THE HOUSE
holy buckets……Cameron just went huge yard…..
Oh Cammy!!!!!!! This game just turned North!!!!
That looked like a titleist
#66: ‘Huge?’ No, Giagantic!
Was he swinging a Big Bertha?
LaForest gets another start (or two) over the weekend. We need some lightening in a bottle !!
Ok so I shut off the game, and we start to rally? WTF? I’ll take it though.
OH YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!!
SLEDGE HAMMUH
SLEDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLY SANTA MARIA!!!!!!!!!!!
72: turn the game back off….you’re bad luck…
WHOOOOOOOOO!!!
WE JUST TOOK THE LEAD! HOW?!
KOUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Everybody bats….everybody hits…
Who are the guys with the bats, and why are they wearing Padre uniforms?
Kouz just stole second…. awesome….
OH MY GOD!!! I’M TURNING IT OFF WHEN WE’RE LOSING MORE OFTEN!!!
Okay, it worked -
the old “negative reinforcement” trick.
HAHA WHOOOOOOO!!!!
that ball was smoked, yo
OK, LaForest, you can stay a while
And the ride never ends. Damn you all for giving up so early. But maybe that is our mojo!
You like that Laforest swing, hanging in there against the lefty ? Laforest starts tomorrow. We may have our Jack Cust after all.
You’re killing them Petey!
pitching and 3-run bombs…yeah baby. ok, even if the pitching ain’t so good, the hitting is f’n sweet. cmon bullpen, this is on you now.
6 runs this inning, sheer awesomeness. OH PETEY!!
Quebecois rock!
Let’s get some ‘laugher’ mojo going here.
that’s awesome – how often does someone get 2 AB in one inning as a pinch hitter? make the most of it, NOG
attaboy NOG!
And NOG with a DBL!!!! Who’d have thunk it?
I love baseball..
Ok, now I know something is going on. NOG with a 2-out opposite way double?
We need a BroBI
BROBI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow that’s a hell of an effort by Sullivan. props.
98: Great call Rick!!!!
Keep it up boys!!! This must be kharma for the awful calls all nite.
BroBI’s are good…very very good…
98: you need it you got it
#64 – Where’s David ?
It’s always interesting coming into an IGD in the middle and read the ups and down without ever seeing the actual score.
Have to like the touchdown and safety in the bottom of the fifth.
I like the way this one is heading.
Not a bad inning. I think our guys are smelling play-offs and starting to step up again. Also, I think the roster changes have worn off, mentally.
I’m going to bed now (not really, but just saying that seems to help).
Brady Clark signed to minor league deal by Pads, sent to Triple-A
Why not ? He will help in September. The Pads have no depth in the minor league’s in the outfield and Hairston’s injury recovery will be tricky.
#96: I love baseball, too!
I miss Hairston. He would of had a field day tonight!
C’mon Cla, we need a tailor-made ground ball here.
110: Man I’m totally off tonite. Let’s go K-Cam!
Keep it on the ground for a DP guys.
Get him out of there Bud!
Let’s just hope we can keep the bats going for the rest of the game.
wow…when did this game get moved to coors field?
well, Cameron (Kevin) didn’t acquit himself too well. we need a DP here, quickly.
C’mon Hammy, get one more.
Now this game is heading North East.
God damnit bullpen.
What the hell’s going on tonite?
Whew! Finally.
I don’t like this two run lead thing.
121: Totally with you there. This game is stressing me out.
I should be in bed right now counting the seams on a baseball.
Stichtes

Thanks Trevor. Now I can go to sleep.
Big win tonight. Star of the Game is Pete Laforest.
Gutsy victory tonite. We definitely needed this.
Nice game by Petey. I’d like to see more of that in the future.
Just got back from the game; very strange. I haven’t watched on TiVo yet, but was the umpiring as bad tonight as it appeared from Section 300? Looked like the second base umpire botched the call on Sledge’s catch in the first, and the the third base umpire later erred in our favor on a bunt play. Also, the plate umpire seemed to have a liberal outside corner, particularly to right-handed batters.
Ah, well; a win is a win. I’m even willing to forgive the “Padre fan” behind me who kept rooting for Colorado to score so she could have her Trevor Time…
Geoff:
I thought the calls low and away to righties looked pretty bad from section G in PC…
129 – Geoff, you are right – the home plate ump especially was all over the place on strike calls. Big zone, but worse, inconsistent. Fortunately, the outcome of the game didn’t hinge too closely on any particular piece of umpiring.
I can’t get on to the server at my blog… durn Wordpress!…. I’ll write it up tomorrow I guess…
I’m very encouraged that the boys responded so well to Clay’s bad inning. Hensley just didn’t have it tonight and gets a victory, Young was awesome last night and gets a no decision.*shakes head* baseball will drive ya nuts…
Congrats to Trevor for further extending the 30 Save seasons record. Thank you Pete for providing a spark…
Oh, and all with ticket stubs get to go to Hooters for free wings. Tells you how often we score ten runs, I didn’t even know that promotion existed.
I believe all 13 runs in the 5th (both teams) came with two outs. Weird game.
Sledge’s double against a leftie? Amazing.
Cameron’s no-doubt jack? Timely.
LaForest’s jack against a leftie and the rally starting walk? Stunning.
Still 3 back, but nice to win a series against this very good team. We get Houston at home, Arizona gets at Atlanta.
Williams v Peavy
Oswalt v Germano
Albers v Maddux
On paper we have a strong edge in two of those games. Let’s build some momentum…; Matt V I am so with you; last 10 games against teams not STL? 8-2. Then the 1-3 vs STL just kills us.
Go Pads.
