Clay and Elmer… Sounds more like a pre-school art class than a big-league ballgame, but whatever. Go Padres!
Picking up where last year's version left off, the Ducksnorts 2008 Baseball Annual provides in-depth analysis of and commentary on the San Diego Padres. Get your copy today.

Glad to see Clay rather than Wilfredo. I am cautiously optimistic that Clay can find his ‘06 form. Tough lineup against whom to find one’s groove, but, this is the big leagues, so now is a very good time to do so.
Go Pads.
August 16, 2007 at 6:38 pm
Your cautious optimism is the kiss of doom, jay. I was cautiously optimistic about Wilfredo before his start, and look where that got us.
August 16, 2007 at 6:40 pm
OT … check out what the Gi’nts are doing tonight …
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=270816115
… they’ve scored in all 7 innings so far … first 4 on HRs … last 3 on SFs … odd …
August 16, 2007 at 7:00 pm
Man, the Guess the Attendance thing is rigged. First my fiance guessed earlier this year and won a Mike Cameron ball and now my dad is doing it tonite (no prize has been annoucned yet). Grr.
August 16, 2007 at 7:01 pm
OT … it’s still hard for me to believe that Brian Lawrence is in the Mets rotation …

August 16, 2007 at 7:03 pm
D-backs win …
August 16, 2007 at 7:06 pm
Clay and Elmer are characters on Sesame Street right??
August 16, 2007 at 7:07 pm
Welcome back Matty V!!!!
August 16, 2007 at 7:07 pm
8: Indeed, I’m thrilled about that too.
F’ing D-backs. Don’t they know how to lose?
August 16, 2007 at 7:08 pm
Think they’re going to change the call?
August 16, 2007 at 7:08 pm
apparently not..
August 16, 2007 at 7:09 pm
Sledge clearly had that.
August 16, 2007 at 7:09 pm
10: Doubtful, but it was a nice play by Sledge. Great effort. Totally obvious that he made the catch.
August 16, 2007 at 7:11 pm
now it’s gonna cost us a run… jeez…
August 16, 2007 at 7:11 pm
Shit. Thanks a lot ump
August 16, 2007 at 7:12 pm
Blum has to knock that ball down…..it was a crappy throw but he has to keep that ball from going into center field
August 16, 2007 at 7:12 pm
16: Yeah, I’d rather have him in LF than 2nd. God that just really takes the win out of your sails. Talk about bad luck rearing its ugly head again
August 16, 2007 at 7:18 pm
That’s a really frustrating half farme. We’d better not be the Punchless Pads tonite and pick Clay up.
August 16, 2007 at 7:20 pm
Yep…Clay deserves better than that…. we can’t lose to Elmer freakin dessens..
August 16, 2007 at 7:24 pm
nice inning guys…do they realize that they are allowed to beat up on a sad sack pitcher like this clown right?
August 16, 2007 at 7:25 pm
20: Cameron has been pretty terrible at the dish of late. He’s K’ed looking wayyyy too many times.
August 16, 2007 at 7:30 pm
and here we go…
August 16, 2007 at 7:30 pm
Great. This is shaping up to be a fun game.
August 16, 2007 at 7:32 pm
I’d love for Krasohack to ask Buddy why a team which is suppose to rely on pitching and defense continues to play Blum 2/3rds of the time at 2B where he is clearly one of the worst defensive players in the league.
August 16, 2007 at 7:35 pm
#24 If the offense could stand to get zero offensive production out of the second base slot (M.Giles) then I would agree with you.
August 16, 2007 at 7:36 pm
Hensley has had no command all season and tonight is no different.
August 16, 2007 at 7:37 pm
re 25: You really think Blum is that better then NOG? I know NOG has been terrible this year, but I don’t think there has been a single season over the past 10 that Blum has been better offensively.
August 16, 2007 at 7:40 pm
Thank you Adrian.
August 16, 2007 at 7:41 pm
OT: I was just looking through the Official MLB Rules on-line and cannot find where it says a batter in the On-Deck Circle has to stay in the circle. Any help?
August 16, 2007 at 7:41 pm
Terrible AB by Khalil. Come ON Padres. Figure it out!
August 16, 2007 at 7:55 pm
Speaking of tickets….I have 2 tickets to the game on 8/30 vs. Arizona..good seats..
FB 110 45 2-1
Field Box..section 110, row 45…seats 1-2.
I paid $48 per ticket and would love to get back what I paid…..
Anyone Interested??
August 16, 2007 at 7:56 pm
OG!!!!!!
August 16, 2007 at 7:56 pm
With a good showing in his two starts over the next week and a half, LaForest could take that backup position away from Michael Barrett. The Pads could employ three catchers and perhaps send down the weak hitting Termel Sledge in a few days or so if Bradley finally gets healthy.
August 16, 2007 at 7:57 pm
Oh Thank God. Keep it going boys.
August 16, 2007 at 7:57 pm
So…when one of the guys with Padres on their shirts touches the 5 sided base we get to put a run under our name?? Very interesting…wish we could do that more often..
August 16, 2007 at 7:58 pm
Uncle Milty, we miss you! Come back to us soon!
August 16, 2007 at 7:59 pm
No chance for B(l)um to hit into a DP right now.
August 16, 2007 at 8:00 pm
37: He could still line into a DP. Don’t say that. TERRIBLE CALL UMP!!!
I’m freaking fired up tonite. We can’t lose this game and I’m pissed about the bad calls.
August 16, 2007 at 8:00 pm
OMG!!! Silent L ties it up!!!
August 16, 2007 at 8:00 pm
oh my god….another hit with a man in scoring position…
August 16, 2007 at 8:00 pm
Tie game!
August 16, 2007 at 8:01 pm
Silent L should’ve been tagging on that play to get into scoring position
August 16, 2007 at 8:01 pm
Cammy wanted that ball to land on the beach.
August 16, 2007 at 8:01 pm
Get it done Khalil, we need a knock right here.
August 16, 2007 at 8:02 pm
44: I guess I’m thinking ahead here…
August 16, 2007 at 8:02 pm
44? Gonzalez is up… what game are you watching?
August 16, 2007 at 8:04 pm
I guess we really shouldn’t bitch about the offense since we’re outhitting the best offensive team in the NL.
August 16, 2007 at 8:04 pm
I take it back Blum
August 16, 2007 at 8:05 pm
#46: Phantom is ‘Fired Up,’ so he’s entitled to a mistake once in a while. LOL!
August 16, 2007 at 8:08 pm
#49: Absolutely… anyone have a guess (without looking) to the Aflac trivia question??
August 16, 2007 at 8:09 pm
Nice catch Sledge.
August 16, 2007 at 8:12 pm
51: Yeah, I was a little nervous about that myself.
Damn, how many shallow flys have we hit tonite?
August 16, 2007 at 8:12 pm
#48 - If Giles was having just a little bit better of a year than he would would be in there everyday but his performance has been shockingly bad (what is he hitting since the slide in late May-it must be about a buck eighty ?)
Blum seems to be “on” for nearly every plate appearance - even when he gets out he usually hits the ball hard and has been a better contact hitter this year than in the past.
August 16, 2007 at 8:13 pm
I’d take some Secret Pop right now…
August 16, 2007 at 8:23 pm
Ugh, come on guys.
August 16, 2007 at 8:24 pm
God, you can’t even script that even worse. Son of a bitch Padres.
August 16, 2007 at 8:27 pm
This is going south really quick.
August 16, 2007 at 8:28 pm
No one throwing in the pen ? Surprising to say the least.
August 16, 2007 at 8:29 pm
5th innning and we’re giving up all sorts of runs….did David Wells start this game??
August 16, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Matty V just echoed my thoughts…
August 16, 2007 at 8:30 pm
I’m done for the nite. 4 games back and tied with the Rox, here we come.
Seriously, what’s it gonna take right?
August 16, 2007 at 8:31 pm
Well, it looks like another starter will get a shot at the 5th starter spot. Who will get the next crack ?
August 16, 2007 at 8:33 pm
62: I’m only 38 and I throw a mean knuckleball…think they’ll give me a tryout?
August 16, 2007 at 8:39 pm
This has just turned ugly - not just the game, but the season. I have remained hopeful, hoping that Arizona’s terrible RS/RA would catch up, but this Padres team is so inept in so many places that it doesn’t matter. I’m going to cross my fingers for a shot at the WC, but I really do think this is the ultimate low point of the season - losing a series at home to the team nipping our heels.
I am a Padres fan but I just can’t get with this current team. Good night and good luck.
August 16, 2007 at 8:42 pm
MIKE CAMERON IN THE HOUSE
August 16, 2007 at 8:42 pm
holy buckets……Cameron just went huge yard…..
August 16, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Oh Cammy!!!!!!! This game just turned North!!!!
August 16, 2007 at 8:42 pm
That looked like a titleist
August 16, 2007 at 8:43 pm
#66: ‘Huge?’ No, Giagantic!
August 16, 2007 at 8:47 pm
Was he swinging a Big Bertha?
August 16, 2007 at 8:48 pm
LaForest gets another start (or two) over the weekend. We need some lightening in a bottle !!
August 16, 2007 at 8:49 pm
Ok so I shut off the game, and we start to rally? WTF? I’ll take it though.
August 16, 2007 at 8:50 pm
OH YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!!
August 16, 2007 at 8:51 pm
SLEDGE HAMMUH
August 16, 2007 at 8:51 pm
SLEDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLY SANTA MARIA!!!!!!!!!!!
August 16, 2007 at 8:51 pm

August 16, 2007 at 8:51 pm
KOUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
August 16, 2007 at 8:52 pm
Everybody bats….everybody hits…
August 16, 2007 at 8:52 pm
Who are the guys with the bats, and why are they wearing Padre uniforms?
August 16, 2007 at 8:52 pm
Kouz just stole second…. awesome….
August 16, 2007 at 8:53 pm
OH MY GOD!!! I’M TURNING IT OFF WHEN WE’RE LOSING MORE OFTEN!!!
August 16, 2007 at 8:54 pm
Okay, it worked -
the old “negative reinforcement” trick.
August 16, 2007 at 8:55 pm
HAHA WHOOOOOOO!!!!
August 16, 2007 at 8:55 pm
that ball was smoked, yo
OK, LaForest, you can stay a while
August 16, 2007 at 8:55 pm
And the ride never ends. Damn you all for giving up so early. But maybe that is our mojo!
August 16, 2007 at 8:56 pm
You like that Laforest swing, hanging in there against the lefty ? Laforest starts tomorrow. We may have our Jack Cust after all.
August 16, 2007 at 8:56 pm
You’re killing them Petey!
August 16, 2007 at 8:56 pm
pitching and 3-run bombs…yeah baby. ok, even if the pitching ain’t so good, the hitting is f’n sweet. cmon bullpen, this is on you now.
August 16, 2007 at 8:56 pm
6 runs this inning, sheer awesomeness. OH PETEY!!
Quebecois rock!
August 16, 2007 at 8:57 pm
Let’s get some ‘laugher’ mojo going here.
August 16, 2007 at 8:59 pm
that’s awesome - how often does someone get 2 AB in one inning as a pinch hitter? make the most of it, NOG
August 16, 2007 at 8:59 pm
attaboy NOG!
August 16, 2007 at 8:59 pm
And NOG with a DBL!!!! Who’d have thunk it?
August 16, 2007 at 8:59 pm
I love baseball..
August 16, 2007 at 9:00 pm
Ok, now I know something is going on. NOG with a 2-out opposite way double?
August 16, 2007 at 9:00 pm
We need a BroBI
August 16, 2007 at 9:00 pm
BROBI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 16, 2007 at 9:01 pm
wow that’s a hell of an effort by Sullivan. props.
August 16, 2007 at 9:01 pm
98: Great call Rick!!!!
Keep it up boys!!! This must be kharma for the awful calls all nite.
August 16, 2007 at 9:01 pm
BroBI’s are good…very very good…
August 16, 2007 at 9:02 pm
98: you need it you got it
August 16, 2007 at 9:04 pm
#64 - Where’s David ?
August 16, 2007 at 9:06 pm
It’s always interesting coming into an IGD in the middle and read the ups and down without ever seeing the actual score.
Have to like the touchdown and safety in the bottom of the fifth.
I like the way this one is heading.
August 16, 2007 at 9:06 pm
Not a bad inning. I think our guys are smelling play-offs and starting to step up again. Also, I think the roster changes have worn off, mentally.
I’m going to bed now (not really, but just saying that seems to help).
August 16, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Brady Clark signed to minor league deal by Pads, sent to Triple-A
Why not ? He will help in September. The Pads have no depth in the minor league’s in the outfield and Hairston’s injury recovery will be tricky.
August 16, 2007 at 9:08 pm
#96: I love baseball, too!
August 16, 2007 at 9:10 pm
I miss Hairston. He would of had a field day tonight!
August 16, 2007 at 9:12 pm
C’mon Cla, we need a tailor-made ground ball here.
August 16, 2007 at 9:13 pm
110: Man I’m totally off tonite. Let’s go K-Cam!
August 16, 2007 at 9:14 pm
Keep it on the ground for a DP guys.
August 16, 2007 at 9:15 pm
Get him out of there Bud!
August 16, 2007 at 9:16 pm
Let’s just hope we can keep the bats going for the rest of the game.
