Went and watched Rush Hour 3 on Saturday. Wait till it comes out on cable. As Morrissey says, “that joke isn’t funny anymore.”
On another note, the Padres have played 116 games this year. For reference, here are their best records at this point in the season throughout history:
- 1998: 75-41
- 1984: 69-47
- 1992: 64-52
- 1982: 62-54
1985: 62-54
2004: 62-54
2007: 62-54
We’re still in good shape here, folks. Let’s take the series…
I hope “Everyday is Like Sunday” — Jake Peavy pitching gives us a good chance to win. Go Padres.
any chance they call up Antonelli?
“don’t stop believing, hold onto that feeling…” And for you young people, that isn’t the ending to the Sopranos.
#2: Doubt it. Maybe in September, but even then…
#3: Didn’t the White Sox use that during their World Series run in ’05?
Jake Peavy is 7-2 after a Padres loss this season. How about a happy flight home today?!
Oh, and the Reds DFA’d Mark Bellhorn today if the Padres wanna scrape the barrel for more bench help. Kidding.
#3: Also, you’ve inspired a new poll…
So, I guess OG likes that park in Cincy.
I wonder if the lack of a player to rally around contributes to the negativity.
8: No kidding eh? When was the last time a Padre player hit 4 HRs in a 3 game series?
We scored a point! I like when we score points.
Time to move Giles the Elder out of the leadoff spot?
After going curveball crazy the past two starts, Jake came out and through fastballs on every pitch but the last one of that inning.
11: Never! OG is thriving in that spot and he’s still one of our best on-base guys. Besides, 3 games does not make a season…
Love those eight-pitch innings. I hope Jake and Bard noticed that the plate umpire is giving them that pitch low and away.
Nice stroke by Adrian, just bad luck there.
Be… aggressive. Be, be… aggressive!
That was an unexpected clutch hit from Greene. I’ll take it.
I don’t know why the crowd is booing Cameron; Ross was standing between him and the plate. Not a lot of options.
16: B-E-A-GG-R-E-SS-I-V-E……….
Not sure Cameron had another choice considering where the bat was sitting…
Thanks to Bronson Arroyo for throwing Khalil a fastball.
So did anyone see the replay? Was the catcher really blocking the plate, was that contact needed? I saw the bat might have been in the way. Not saying it was dirty, but …
Whoa, that was a little scary. Makes up for Ross’ bloop base hit, I guess…
#21: See #18. There was nowhere else for Cameron to go if he wanted to score the run.
Nifty play by Ensberg to end the inning. Anyone have a pitch count on Peavy through three?
24: 35
From what I head on the radio, it was go through Ross or not score the run. Considering our offensive struggles, I’ll take the run.
And 17: Khalil had a bunch of clutch hits on Friday nite. He hits pretty well with the bases juiced (not sure if this was the case in this AB or not, I didn’t see it). He gets a ton of flack, but Khalil hits a bunch of sac flys.
And that right there is why Adam Dunn should never be a Padre.
So Josh Bard has given up on hitting lefty? It’s funny because up until this year he really has not had a bad split between lefty and righty.
Okay, OG is officially ridiculous.
What is Giles smoking? I guess he’s feeling better!
OG should probably ask for a trade to the Reds and play here full-time.
What the hell is Brian Giles on? Sweet Jesus!
Hey Geoff,
How ’bout the U-T using the word “penurious” in one of their headlines (at least in the on-ine edition)? Is that somehow more palatable than “tightwads”?
43 pitches for Jake through 4.
Can we trade Brian to the Reds? Maybe they will want him after this series haha.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Brian Giles flirts with the Petco porch and starts hitting some homeruns at home as well. Wouldn’t that be something if Giles goes off and ends up hitting 15-20 homers on the season ?
Also, doesn’t make sense, with his experience in the heat of a pennant drive, to have Ensberg in this lineup everyday ? He brings a vet prescence on the diamond that I think will help the Pads.
The future is now, especially with a healthy Peavy and CY (who are having career years).
Jake looks Maddux-esque this game
35: I’d prefer Giles think of this series as a bit of luck and keep slapping line drives at Petco.
#32: Yeah, that was amusing. Both words, of course, miss the point that we’re in a pennant race…
anyone else stuck watching the Reds broadcasters who are treating the game like an afterthought?
Conceding the run…
The one thing with OG is that I don’t think he even tries to take swings like this at PETCO. Those are the swings we saw a lot of in 2004 and even into 2005 but since then I think he has just given up. Those balls die in the PETCO air. It’s nice that maybe he can silence some critics talking about how all his power is gone but I just think he is a good hitter that has totally changed his philiosophy because of his home park.
39: Yup… doesnt much matter to me, what they have been saying the whole serious has sounded like useless rambling
it doesn’t matter to me because the Padres are winning…but it is a bit annoying because they seem like they’re doing a radio talk show..
40: Conceding the run is absolutely the right call in that situation. Up 5 in the fifth inning, you just want outs and to limit the possibility of a big inning.
#39: Isn’t the season pretty much an afterthought for the Reds at this point?
44: I didnt say it was the wrong thing to do. I said they were doing it. I just wanted to see Jake throw another shut out.
65 pitches for Jake through 5
Now Bard’s hitting lefty?
Great hustle by Jake, but maybe he can turn down the intensity just a tad?
48: Ever since Joyner came, he has been hitting from a random sie of the plate. I guess they are working on something.
