OBG08 Revisited: Hitters

Back in February we did some community projections for the 2008 Padres. In the interest of accountability, here’s how we measured up to reality.

When Projections Go Bad

What the heck, now is as good a time as any to revisit pre-season projections. I know, OPS and ERA aren’t the end-all and be-all, but they’re good enough for government work…

Ah, interleague play. The intensity, the intrigue, the irrelevance…
I walked over to Book-Off the other day and found a whole slew of baseball publications. Most are in Japanese, so I couldn’t read them, but I could look at [...]

Winning Is Better Than Knitting

Winning is so much more fun than losing, n’est ce pas? Every starter except Jim Edmonds and Chris Young collected at least one hit on Wednesday in the Padres’ 4-2 victory over Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park.
Tadahito Iguchi broke out of a season-long slump with four hits, while Adrian Gonzalez and Kevin Kouzmanoff each homered. [...]

That Strange Feeling We Sometimes Get

Two quick observations about Jim Edmonds and Tadahito Iguchi:

Mike Cameron looked lost in center field last April.
Marcus Giles hit .327/.376/.459 that same month.

What we’re seeing from Edmonds and Iguchi right now may not mean much in August in September. In other words, we still don’t know what we’ve got…

Your Predictions for 2008?

From esteemed reader LynchMob comes this excellent idea for a post on the eve of Opening Day: “provide us with a list of questions which you want us, the commenters, to go ‘on the record’ with”; he then poses several questions, which you will find below.
This might be fun to peek back at throughout the [...]

Everybody Loves Tadahito

Says here we’ve been “dot-com” for 6 years now. Cool.
Anyway, I’m working on an interview with Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune (it’ll run on Monday), and one topic we discussed was potential surprises among Padres for 2008. The name that came up was new second baseman Tadahito Iguchi:
Iguchi had some problems with a [...]
