The last time Johan Santana faced the Padres, he served up a homer to Dave Roberts (the last time Roberts took a southpaw yard) and lost to Darrell May in what appears to be the final victory of the latter’s big-league career. Baseball is a strange game…

Fun fact: Brian Giles normally comes to the plate accompanied by the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Scar Tissue.” When Wolf pitches, though, he uses Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London.”

  1. Why is no one in the bullpen?

  2. #54@parlo: That’s why. R.W. is getting it done. He needs some help from the offense. I wonder if L.T. is available.

  3. Lucky to only give up 1 there, awesome defense all around! Think Randy’s done???

  4. #56@130tom330: IMO no. I think Santana is going to fall apart this inning.

  5. #28@Turbine Dude: We talked about this last week! Its good luck when yer all over the msg board. Keep it up, we need the mojo again.

  6. Good approach by Hairston there, go with Santana’s filthy stuff, don’t try to kill it.

  7. #58@130tom330: I’m on pain meds and MGD tonight, so I don’t think that will be a problem!

OMG, that was a helluva squeeze play!

  8. Who coaches baserunning on this team? A retarded monkey?

  9. How many times does that happen in back to back games? At least EGone isn’t on the DL.

  10. And Edgar did just about the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen in my life… what the hell is wrong with him? Cost us a run.

  11. Great, another bad baserunning play by the Padres.

  12. Hairston’s gone dirtbag on us the last 10 min! Keep up the good work Scotty, maybe you can carry us for the inning.

Ahhhh, hit runner, two nights in a row, what are the odds (outside the ’08 Pads season, of course…)

  13. Maybe it kept us out of a DP…

  14. Edgar never even looked, he had no idea the ball had hit him. News flash for the coaching staff: This team isn’t good enough to give away outs like that. Even if he dodges it and they turn two we still get a run out of it.

At least Adrian got it done.

  15. People say the Padres offense is boring but I disagree. It’s exciting to watch them find new ways to not score a run with a runner on 3rd and nobody out!

Luckily A-Gon made up for his brother’s blunder

  16. 5.5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes! That looked so T. Gwynnish.

  17. Way to go Adrian…

  18. I’d love to see Kouz crank one yard right now.

  19. Good enough!

  20. Back-to-back hits with RISP!!! We’re on a roll!

  21. #69@Turbine Dude: missed it, grabbin’ a beer and looking for PK’s. Plesant suprise though, now Kooze comes through, something musta kicked in…

  22. The home plate umpire is really giving Santana that inside corner. That pitch to Greene was definitely too far inside.

  23. Khalil is just awful this year. If we had anyone to take over I’d say he needs a trip to Portland.

  24. #77@130tom330: See post #57

  25. Ehhh, surprise. Su-prise, nothing “racially pure” about that. YGBSM!!!

  26. Huber needs to run into one…

  27. #81@Turbine Dude: Righteous call brother, it must be hard being right all the time! Yer doin’ a great job of it. LOL :)

  28. #79@Schlom: #80@anthony: He’s an average fan favorite. But, I would have to whole heartedly have to agree. Maybe he just needs a wake up call. If were have to ride a bus to a few games and stay at a Motel 6, he might get his act back together. No?

  29. #53@Turbine Dude: I work on a sports copy desk on the wrong coast.

  30. Why is Wolf still out there?

  31. #86@Kevin: My sincerest sympathies. Hang in there. There is life after snow and uptight assholes.

  32. Is TD’s favorite reliever up in the pen?

  33. That’s one way to get Santana out of the game…

  34. In case anyone cares about College World Series scores, there were two “upsets” today, Wichita State over Florida State 10-7 and Arizona over Miami 6-3. Georgia beat NC State 11-4 and Stanford is up 1-0 on Cal State Fullerton (with Phil Nevin announcing). Arizona’s win makes West teams an unbelievable 15-0 against non-West teams in the CWS.

  35. #85@Turbine Dude: IMO KT’s still waiting for that above average power to kick in for a series or two. Been hearing a few rumbles from the boys about Spiccoli lately. He can go to the left with the best of ‘em (Ahh, Greene just missed a difficult catch, not to is left I might add…). Gonna hand with him like we hung with Kooze and wait for the good times. We got any serious options at SS, Edgar probably wouldn’t volunteer.

  36. #88@Turbine Dude: Not much snow in D.C. It will be 97 here tomorrow.

  37. #87@Field39: I’m hoping Buddy has someone warming up right now. Randy has been very good to this point. But his wheels are about to come off soon.

  38. Is anyone in the bullpen????????

  39. #91@Schlom: I went to N.C. State.

  40. #89@Sean Callahan: Corey! Thank God, is up in the BP.

  41. #85@Turbine Dude: I’m not in favor of sending him down. That’s totally absurd. You don’t send players with 4 straight years in the majors to the minors for any reason, especially if they don’t have a replacement. Not only would that ensure that he won’t extend his contract here (which is probably doubtful anyway but a contract extension would really enhance his trade value) but also kill any trade value he might have.

He’s just going through a bad stretch at the moment, he’s probably not going to hit 205 the rest of the season. Even if he does he still has some value with his glove.

  42. C’mon, thats a great frame job by barrett! Gotta get that call…

  43. #93@Kevin: I was in DC two years ago. Very mild wintertime. 40 degrees in January.

  44. I smell impending disaster.

  45. If Randy gets out of this, he’s got my vote for player of the game.

  46. #101@Field39: Shhh. No bad mojo….

  47. Randy cant get a call, Corey’s warm… Pray for strikes!

  48. #93@Kevin: Its snowing down here in New Zealand

  49. Wolf’s strike zone is much smaller then Santana’s. Those curveballs are being shown as balls by Gamecast but so were alot of those inside fastballs by Johan. That 2nd pitch to Castillo was exactly the same as the 3rd and 4th pitches (both called strikes), not sure why it was called a ball.
