I was so busy whining about sloppy baserunning and the 12-man pitching staff this morning that I forgot to mention Adrian Gonzalez‘s spectacular 3-5 double play in Tuesday’s contest. It was a thing of beauty.
You know what else is a thing of beauty? A win. How ’bout we get one of those tonight…
So, given all the disctonent directed at KG today for wasting opportunities, I assume you’re all super pissed at Bard and Adrian tonite, right?
Sanchez has pitched a helluva game so far.
this is a pitcher who last year walked 5 men per 9 and gave up over 1 hit per inning.
looks like the recurring theme from previous years of allowing C and D-List pitchers to look like world-beaters continues.
Where is Ramon Hernandez playing now?
If we win 1-0 tonight, it will be very exciting and satisfying after so many nail-biting innings.
Does anyone prefer this over a blowout victory totally devoid of drama?
Orioles…Never Mind
103: He does give up walks, but his strikeout rate has been great and his hit rate not terrible.

Sanchez has a career 11.9 k/9 in the minor leagues and 9.3 k/9 in the majors, so he’s got good strikeout stuff.
Sanchez has pitched well and the Padres have played 10 games in a row and its cold and windy, but they are a better team than the Giants. It is just so frustrating to watch.
This is the fifth time the Pads have faced this pitcher since April of 2007. Don’t they have a scouting report on him? Sanchez had one month last year with an ERA under 5. Yet the Padres haven’t scored against him the last 11 innings they’ve faced him and he’s struck out 15 while giving up 5 hits.
105: Nope, sorry, not me. I prefer my baseball games involving the Padres to be drama free blowouts by the Padres.
No. Gimme 10-0 in the third inning to close out the scoring.
The baseball world has gotten the pitchers’ duel it expected from this Germano/Sanchez match up.
Interesting ESPN Magazine piece on Greg Maddux and holding runners:

well atleast edmonds is performing at the plate, although I would still prefer Hairston in CF and P-Mac in left….
Separated at birth…the swings of Sean Burroughs and Jim Edmonds…
There we go KG. No Outs. Let’s break our streak.
Sorry for the snark, but:
I think we should ditch Khalil. He’s the only Padre to reach base twice tonite. Unacceptable.
I just turned the game on after getting home from a bad movie…judging from the comments it looks like I might have made a good choice.
And Phantom, I can’t let you get away with that (Comment #101)…I give more grief to KG b/c of the overhype he gets…really, no other reason.
101. I am very unhappy with Bard. I had him pegged as one of those “students of the game type”. I really thought he would keep it simple and get a groundball or a sac fly.
I can’t believe he looked as awful as he did. Totally changed the feel for the entire inning.
Germano got the bat taken out of his hand.
Giles continues to try to pull every pitch thrown by a lefty.
That Bard at bat really stung though
I’m frustrated because I think the Padres are a quality team, a team that can and should challenge for the playoffs. I think that too often they lack focus (baserunning, fielding gaffes by the outfielders, and not having a plan when going up to the plate).
If I didn’t care, I wouldn’t criticize.
If last season taught the Padres anything, it is that every game counts, every game matters, and losing focus or getting complacent can cost a team the playoffs.
Now, go kick some Giant reliever ass and take the day off at 6 – 4.
118: Then I apologize in advance for 117
118: Nationally, no one can name the Padres shortstop.
Reaching base is bad, it creates runners left in scoring position.
C’mon Phantom…you know as well as I do that KG is a good player, but this idea that he is irreplaceable and a lynchpin on this team is a joke. He is what he is…an average defensive player that makes highlight plays once in a while and is a part time hitter with a bit of power.
Good call I think by Black on the sac bunt.
Re: 122…funny, he is the only guy that I get asked about on the Padres besides Trevor…Remember, I live in VA now.
Hosed…wow. It looked like me running in from third.
i don’t even have words
In the replay, he definatly got him.
110, 111: Amen.
Even 9-6 is better than 1-0
out at home. annoying.
I feel like that Aflac duck … standing silently with my mouth open .. not quite sure what I saw nor what to say
bare running kills us again…
127: Let’s not make tonight’s discussion about Greene. I’ve seen this before movie.
124: To say that he’s not an integral part of this team completely understates his abilities, and you know it.
I’d also like to who (other than me) he is overhyped. I’ve put up with over a year of this “Woe to Khalil” crap and it gets old after a while. He’s extremely valuable to this team. He’s not perfect. There are not better options readily available.
why run on a short pop to shallow left? No way he could make it. Are we that desperate? Uh yes…………….
Anyone think maybe Callix should have been pinch running for Edmonds there?
Old and Slow.
134: Don’t take the bait.
having Hairston bunt was a poor decision
RE: 136 they can’t afford to burn thier only backup IF in the 7th.
if Edmonds had stayed put .. TC was up next .. good chance of getting a hit
#121: Sue, my feathers are flying off also. I’m going to be. Later all. See ya Friday for the Dogs.
Funny thing, perspective…the Giants broadcasters are going on and on about the throw…this board is blowing up about the decision to run…
Going to bed
That was a poor, poor decision by Edmonds. Especially with Tony Clark coming up.
Man….I swear we are a better team than this.
140: That’s a good point. It would be nice to have some sort of burner on the bench, but oh well.
This game is still within reach.
now that was nice
who says bard does not throw anyone out!
YES!!! Nice throw!!!
