The Padres were outscored, 23-22, over their opening homestand despite outhitting the opposition by a wide margin:

Maybe on the road they can convert some of that offense into actual runs.
I guess the good thing is they’re hitting. Hopefully they can harness that hitting and get their score on.
Glad Maddux, Wolf, and Germano are facing the Giants. I don’t think we could have scheduled our rotation much better than that.
Wow, third day game in a row. What year is this? 1908? 1938?
1: Yup, but the opposing pitchers are Cain, Lincecum, Sanchez (?). Not an easy task.
::sniff:: ::sniff:: I smell a few 1-0 and 2-1 games this series.
4: as long as the Padres win those games.
Well since it’s Matt Cain throwing today, I’m thinking it’ll be 1-0 Giants going into the 8th, with Cain throwing a no-hitter. Cain will give up one hit, will get pulled immediately, and the first reliever in will give up a homer to Scott Hairston. So nobody panic when we’re being no-hit through 7.
Geoff,
Got my copy of the Annual (via LynchMob) and can’t get enough. Love the Dashboards and your trip to Cooperstown. Outstanding job and I like this one better than last year’s. Keep up the great work. My son continues to believe that Holliday did not touch the plate and is now sporting the T-Shirt to match!
Yesterday’s game was tough. I’m not jumping on Hoffy. We left far too many runners on base. Clutch hitting is still our problem. Looking forward to SF today and for the next few days. Hopefully our hitters can take advantage of their pitchers.
Last year, Matt Cain had 6 starts against the Padres. He threw 41 innings with 42 k’s and a 2.41 ERA. He was 0-3, and the Giants were 0-6 in those games.
8: Love it.
So he’s overdue to win one or three. Great.
RE: 10 with Benjie Molina batting 4th today I’m not sure how easy it will be for him to cah in his overdue chip today.
Looks like Barrett is becoming Maddux’ personal catcher.
12: Christ. Barrett’s catching. We’re totally gonna lose.
Re: 13 does that still aply under the 08 rules?
I hope not. We’re 0-2 so far though…
I’m calling a homer today for both OG and Kouz. I don’t know why but I just have a feeling Cain is going to get shelled. I know he is usually lights out against us but I got a feeling. Then again I had a feeling Matt Bush would come around at shortstop so who knows what I’m worth!
Re: gutsy call with OG
17.
Probably way too optomistic I know, but the way he turned on that one friday night really brought me some hope that he still some pop left and it reminded me of that game winning shot he had in SF last season.
here we go!
Iguchi!!!
wow tghats a quick start!
GONZO!!!!
Adrian!
Um, yeah, that’s a good start for us
AGONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
With the SF offense, that should be enough!
viva el hombre
(in quiet i’m-at-the-office voice)
ESPN Gamecast made it look like Giles fly out was at the wall…true? And if so that’s to bombs hit off Cain in the first inning, a good sign indeed.
Signs that the end is here: Maddux gives up a lead-off walk
Not if, but when does Doc steal 2b?
That’s how you eliminate the SB threat. Maddux already with the nice D!
…and Edmonds is 0-for-3
Hmmm, that’s twice Edmonds has dove and missed and the runner ends up with a double. If he pulls up, it’s a single both times.
Getting the Giants home broadcast on XM. In between innings there was a commercial for Wells Fargo that they are going to donate $100 to some charity every time the Giants score this year …
that is going to cost them a couple thousand dollars this year.
… and kharma instantly bites me in the ass.
Might be a long day. When was the last time Maddux went 3-0 to a hitter twice in one inning?
OK, now he’s gone 3-0 three times…
Re: 28 — Yes…on the track.
Maddux is having issues finding the plate.
Maddux is having issues finding the plate.
36: Make that three times.
oops sorry about the double post
OK, this is too wierd
I hope Maddux’ 2nd inning is better than his 1st
Missed that Rowand double, did Edmonds look good going after the ball? If not, is it time to switch him and Hairston?
Watching the SF broadcast on MLB.com is different. They were just talking about Maddux being a sinkerball pitcher that, like many sinkerballers, get so excited early in the season they overthrow and lose sink.
yeah… sure doesn’t look like Maddux out there… hopefully he can adjust and settle down.
Schlom…no, he did not look good and came up short…but no, it is not time to switch them.
Good ABs so far
No one can find the plate
