My hands are already clammy.
1: Yeah, my stomach is in knots.
And GY, true that. The fact that it’s one game gives me hope, and also feels like a kick in the gut. One hiccup, and the season is finished. Of course, the Rox are playing under the same sort of pressure. However, it just seems like since they’re not supposed to be here anyway, the pressure is significantly lighter on their side.
Let’s have some fun tonight, folks … expect GREAT things from Jake … he’s *our* man! The top of our lineup will score some runs! Onward!
Get me a towel!
I’ve got to leave for class at 5, so I’ll be MIA for tonite’s affair. I’ll be able to listen all the way up to 6 o’clock. Here’s hoping I don’t miss much in class because we’re already soundly in control of this one.
I like Chris Jenkins’ (SD-UT) NLCYA ballot …
NL Cy Young: 1. Jake Peavy, San Diego; 2. Brandon Webb, Arizona; 3. Heath Bell, San Diego.

… it’s what I was expecting for the Padres … Bard + B(l)um + Clark in 6/7/8 spots … I’m good … let’s GO!
I like that Jake’s .561 OPS dwarfs Fogg’s .291
8: Jake will help himself in this game. I hope the rest of the team are ready to help Jake as well by scoring lots and lots of runs early, late, and often.
TBS is blacking out the game here. I can’t even watch the padres in a nationally televised game. This sucks.
9- hell yeah!!!
Alright fellas. Lets do this.
Let’s get it on!!!!!!!!!!
nevermind I feel silly for making that last post. It looks like they are going to show it after all.
Let’s get it on!
We got our A-Team in tonight. Let’s get it done…
14
Gee — why would you think that? Maybe because episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond played right up until 7:30?
At about 7:20 I had a minor panic attack when I turned on the TV, until I realized what they were doing.
i cant get to any game feeds today at work, so please talk it up!
I hope the Padres defense is better than the Chargers tonight.
Hey, it’s a single in the books.
KK gets us going!
Uh oh. These announcers believe in momentum and that Kouz’s bloop will give him confidence.
After top of 1st …
Pitches-strikes – J Fogg 19-12.
Ground balls-fly balls – J Fogg 1-0.
Batters faced – J Fogg 4.
(don’t worry, I won’t do this all night … I gotta head outta here at 510ish)
Man, I would have really liked to see KG get up with a couple of men on. I have no stats to prove it, by recent recollection is that KG sees the ball VERY well at Coors….
Just to spite the Rockies, I have foresaken my normal Coors Light preference for Busch Light (remember: I’m living on a students’ budget!!!)…
I hate Kaz Matsui.
Khalil loves Coors.
#24: .340/.407/.708 in 162 PA.
Was I just in denial going into this game, or should we have predicted that this would be the way the first inning would go?!?
Leitner keeps saying things like “Matsui isn’t hitting” and “Tulo doesn’t have a hit off of Jake”
Could he please just stfu?
Jake’s been squeezed on three pitches already this inning, including one to Kaz Matsui..
This isn’t really a good start.
I can only take so much of this before my hearts gives out and I need an ambulance.
Man, this just feels so typical of being a San Diego sports fan. I’m seriously getting burned out on the “optimism” thing…
Unreal.
There goes the plan of getting an early lead and never trailing.
I’m so pessimistic about this game and it looks like my fears are being realized. ONE STRIKE AWAY!!! That’s how close they were.
Getting it done in Milwaukee would have been good. Get ready to make nice with your favorite Mets fan…
Guys, there’s plenty of game left.
Cruel world. Cruel, cruel world.
I agree with Masticore. We’re giving up down two against Josh Fogg in Coors Field?
Peavy not do well in a big game? You don’t say…
Padres better start hitting quick.
Jake, jake, jake, jake, jake….(shaking head)
42: You mean like the big game last week against the Giants where he gave up one run in 7 innings? You mean the games this September against the Dodger, Giants, Diamondbacks, and Rockies where he has completely dominated, with one bad game on short rest?
#41: Not giving up, just hating life a little. There’s a difference.
yeah what is his problem with big games, i just dont get why he crumbles under pressure.
he usually has a whole bunch of confidence! where did it go?
That wasn’t a complete disaster but the Rox didn’t have any trouble putting good wood on the ball. Jake needs to settle down or he’s going to get shelled. Just once I’d like to see Jake come through in a big game. There’s still time for that if he gets it together.
gnash
WTF?!? Josh Fogg?!?!
After 1 full …
Pitches-strikes – J Peavy 25-16; J Fogg 19-12.
Ground balls-fly balls – J Peavy 0-3; J Fogg 1-0.
Batters faced – J Peavy 7; J Fogg 4.
… hmmm … it felt a lot worse than that, didn’t it?
Geez, this seems to have all the earmarks of another mediocre starter looking like an all-star against our lineup
The announcing team on TBS is down there with the likes of Hawk and Wimpy…
“Losing is a disease, as infectious as syphillis”
-The Natural
(I really think not hitting well is too)
Not helping that Fogg is getting that pitch three inches outside while Peavy didn’t getting anything off the corner.
Shakespeare!!! Nice job!
Great AB by Bard.
We lost our best hitter and another one of our better hitters, so obviously the offense isn’t very good now. But the announcers seem to be completely unaware of park effects in discussing the offense, which is actually pretty middle of the road when healthy.
Bardo= “the Anti-Padre” (like Milton Bradley)…. these guys are great members of the Padre Portfolio,..
B(l)um proves that not every fly ball goes out of Coors …
After top of 2nd …
Pitches-strikes – J Peavy 25-16; J Fogg 37-24.
Ground balls-fly balls – J Peavy 0-3; J Fogg 2-1.
Batters faced – J Peavy 7; J Fogg 8.
… Jake starts us off next inning …
TBS=Those Braves Stink…
But we’re hitting the ball–these should start falling, or flying.
44: Wouldn’t call any of those big games. I’d consider a big game a playoff game, or one with lots of hype, such as his start versus Boston or his short rest start versus AZ.
The only somewhat recent “big” game I can think of that Peavy did good in was the start against Clemens a few years ago.
Yorvit Torrealba? Really Jake?
Ick.
Crap, I meant the Padres…
mothergrabber!
WTF?????????
Somehow I thought this would happen.
Yuck.
at least he struck out the pitcher
I’m turning this off. Maybe me not watching it will somehow improve the ball club. One strike away.
Only his 12th HR allowed in 220 IP…
It seems like when the game is a big one, Peavy goes into gung-ho he-man mode and gets shelled.
WHY WHY WHY??????????????????
Why am I a baseball fan??? What the hell is wrong with me?
This is excruciating
74: yeah I wonder the same thing myself
I can’t believe I cancelled recording “Prison Break” in order to watch this crap.
I’m not giving up yet, but I’m not going to torture myself by watching anymore either. Hopefully when I check back in a little while all will be right with the world.
Peavy actually looks more composed under this Blitzkrieg than during past struggles. He must battle through this and hope the offense can have a big inning or two.
77
Probably a good move
Big rally coming – Peavy to lead it off.
29 of 30 fans end the season crushed. It’s the nature of the format.
Jiminy Christmas people! I check the score for the first time and already we’re down 3-nil? This is unacceptable! Get with it, boys!
Here we go Padres, here we go (clap clap)
Here we go Padres, here we go (clap clap)
Here we go Padres, here we go (clap clap)
The Jake. Cool.
At least Jake steps up his hitting in the clutch.
Fogg finally got squeezed – might be a long night with McClelland’s strike zone –
We will get to Fogg. Can Peavy stabilize ?
Nice. Two on, no outs. Lets put something on the board.
c’mon Superhero, let’s go — base knock her
Ok….I’m here now and I just opened my first beer….things will get better from now on..
Time do do some damage, Padre style.
here
90: I don’t know, Padre style might mean a bases loaded double play and then a pop out.
dammit
Shit! PEAVY, you can make that!!!!! OMG! CRAP!!!
More stellar baserunning.
UH OH
YESSSSS!!!!!!!
Adrian!
Adrian had seen enough. Nice!
AGONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AGON!!!!
EL HOMBRE!!!!
SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!!!
SAY HELLO TO 100 RBI AND 30 HR!!!!!!!!!
DEAR GOD!!!
YESSSS!!!!! ADRIAN!!!!!
I was just about to suggest Peavy didn’t score to make Adrian’s homer a more dramatic grand slam.
HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW??? THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKIN’ ‘BOUT!!!!!
Shakespeare! This is the Fogg we were expecting.
HELL YES WE ARE HITTING THE BALL
Now that’s the Fogg I have come to know.
The real Peavy started to surface last inning, now we see the real Fogg
Let’s get more……don’t let up now boys!!!!!
Lets load them up again.
Make ‘em pay Brady!
I can’t believe they are walking Silent L.
Come on Blum – deliver the death blow..
You know things are difficult when you are walking Geoff Blum intentionally…
Nice hustle…another run.
Or Clark. How about two grand slams in one inning?
Great slide at 2nd by Blum….
good slide Blummer
Adrian joins the exclusive 30-0 club.
Yes! Nice slide Blummer!
Great job Blummer !!
119
that was funny
driving home listening and was ready to get on here and write my assesment of how crappy we were playing. Then GONZO went grand slam. Great job geting runners on this inning.
Great slide by Blum…. man, he’s got pretty hair….
C’mon Jake!
lets go Jake…one more hit this inning
Ok….nice inning…now it’s time for Jake to bear down and hang some zeros..
OK . . . . shut ‘em down
Ripken in the studio for TBS . . . where’s TGwynn at???
All right, gotta hold ‘em this inning against the heart of the Rockie lineup.
I once ate dinner on a first date at a table next to Cal and his family… I did my best impression of the “the iron man” later that night….
129: okay that was crass. I’m a little too excited about the last inning. please forgive me.
RE: 82 (yes, I’m referring to my own post): I see my cheer and encouragement worked! Nicely done, Friars!
not a fan of TBS these are the best 2 guys they could get to work the booth?
ZAGZ – IF you check back in, please TURN THE GAME BACK OFF and go back to whatever you were doing…
OK Jake. They’ve given you five runs and a lead to work with. Do something with it.
wow that slam put AG at 30HR & 100RBI not to shabby
132
apparently Ripken’s contract with GEICO ran out and he needed a job
Ok..so it’s gonna be one of these nights
Damnit Todd Helton. Damn you and you’re Ken Caminiti looking goatee..
Zagz – did you turn the game back on? If so, please quietly turn it off.
133: Seconded
Helton continues to kill Peavy, walk him evey other PA tonight
I hate coors field games.
Peavy missed the target by about 15 inches that time.
Peavy continues to have his B game in games that count…….
But………..
Let’s go Padres!!!!
Re: 141 that was out in most ballparks
Jake – you don’t need to give up a run in every inning…
Jake is destroying the “short rest” theory.
Man this is painful listening to these announcers. They really suck.
#141: Roger that. If we win this, we get to play Philly, which has the same park. What fun…
144
I know. I just hate them.
129 – pretty classic.
We won the game! We won the game! Oh wait, the game is nine innnings. Nevermind.
Hey that’s 100 rbi for Adrian right?
Let’s go Pa-dres! (clap clap clap-clap-clap)
Let’s go Pa-dres! (clap clap clap-clap-clap)
Let’s go Pa-dres! (clap clap clap-clap-clap)
Ok, now lets get some more runs. Time to pile them on before Fogg is gone.
152 – and still zero steals!
152: Great thinking. Got it covered. See post 101.
ok back to the other room and to the exact same spot on the couch I was at during the 5 run rally!
155: That’s Ruthian!
that was low
Hairston looks lost at the plate
Good for Hairston. Got his words in and didn’t fall for the umps retorts.
Maybe the top of the lineup needs Peavy leading off to ignite them.
Jake has not been getting calls like that one on Hairston there
Come on Kouz. 20 is a real nice number and you need two to get there…
Seems we’ve got the ground-out-to-second version of OG tonight. Let’s hope the home-run-to-right version shows up later.
OG crushed that one fould ball he hit down the RF line.
What the hell? Kouz looked like he was taking a 3-0 pitch there
165 – yep
Really really REALLY would like to see Jake have a zero-run inning here
man, i remember back in little league and high school when we would get benched for the next game if we took called strike three down the middle.
i really hate watching us NOT swing!
The guys in the truck for TBS need some practice, consistently late getting back to the gaem
Why is TBS coming back to the game so late?
If no one has served up, “The Fogg is out” then I will claim it…
Nice play KG!
The ump is inexplicably going back and forth between giving the corner and not giving it, for both sides. Pick a strike zone and stick with it, please.
SWEET 1, 2, 3 inning….lets get some runs here boys
168: Got your zero-run inning, Clayton. Anything else you’d like to ask for?
Gonzo!
el hombre again…!
Adrian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Geez he’s slow – good throw would have gotten him, and that’s after I think Hawpe broke both ankles.
Dragon Slayer… My ass!
Adrian! Again.
176 – for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of peace and harmony
171 – I don’t get that either. It’s like they come back into the middle of an inning.
wow, what a great day for adrian to really turn up the sound
What the crap? Pitching change?
It’s about to get reallllll interesting.
By the way, I think we should keep Adrian next year. Thoughts?… :-p
#172: We lifted the Fogg.
183: Yeah, and all that crap about the kids…
Signs of the Apocalypse:
“On tbs.com, Trevor Hoffman breaks done the art of pitching with Alyssa Milano.”
I will watch Trevor and Milano if they handle the analysis in towells…
That was unproductive…
189
I initially read that as” breaks down the art of sleeping with Alyssa Milano.”
c’mon Blummer, base knock here
190: Wow.. Big Trevor fan, eh?
192 – is there an art to it?
Another nice shot to the opposite field by Bard, just hung up a bit too much.
That was a horrific call
Darn, they cannot waste opps like that one.
no — what a crappy call
Why aren’t they crushing what appear to be hanging breaking balls?
I don’t think he went and I don’t like any team that dresses like Barney.
Why would anyone throw anything other than breaking pitches to Blum? He can’t hit them.
194
My thought exactly — that’s why I double-taked on it!
I would like to take this moment to thank the Padres for the first 5 innings of this game. I was on a ledge, ready to jump, and the Padres have proven that not all things with regards to SD sports are predictable. Things might not hold up, who knows, but at least we had these three innings….
We need Cameron…
good effort by clark there
Geez, Cameron gets that ball. That hurts
Yep..Cameron catches that one..
Crap!!
202: If you hang one he crushes it
205
desperately. he changes the whole game
Were they chanting F Peavy?
Man, two straight balls to CF that Cameron could have made plays on. First he would have caught, second he would have thrown out Tulo (ignoring that he would have caught ball #1). This sucks
MVP
Great play by Kouz.
nice job KK. . . . nice play. Probably safe but who cares
ya Cam is definitely missed. We need to keep hitting. We hit well here, we need to prove it
Man, Jake’s “playoff” era sucks
Great pitch by Jake there.
Jake finally gets a call, nice
218- no kidding he stinks right now
Any word on Cameron’s availability for anything whatsoever? 9th inning defense?
yeah he should just field/bunt and run
Way to be Jake.
hell yeah nice
OK . . . way to bounce back there Jake
I’m just glad Kaiser covers heart attacks and strokes.
huge strike out there…. lets get some runs
Nice K, but this game is killing me.
I’m staying at work, didn’t even go home to watch. I can’t take it.
I’d rather read the comments here.
Ok, time to get some runs. Hate the TBS announcers. Listening to Ted and Jer.
Do we pinch hit for Peavy?
229
Padre Baseball . . . Experience it!!!
Nice single for Clark.
BTW, where did Craig Sager get his suit?
232: Scratch that. I think that’s a horrible idea. Peavy has 20+ pitches left and a good bunting ability..
crap . . c;mon jake
oh man cmon peaves
236: Yeah, his last inning was actually pretty good, too. 2 k’s, weak grounder, one solid hit, and one bloop.
236: Scratch that, again. Crappy, crappy, crappy bunter…
mothergrabber
That was depressing
Worse yet, Peavy’s probably going to hurt himself hitting his fist on the tunnel wall..
How not to bunt.
227- yeah i’ll be at kaiser for sure later.
got my card handy in case i put my hand thru anything hahah
i need something to drink this is getting ridiculous
whats with all the pitching changes from Clint.
wouldn’t it be considered a good thing that they’re on their 3rd pitcher in the 6th?
246: It’s a game 7. Gotta take advantage of every matchup, and OG’s platoon splits leave him especially vulnerable.
247: Not when the bullpen is holding us the way they are
We lose tonight and we end up in 3rd place!!! C’mon Padres.
We are 3 deep into their pen. Let’s get something done!
Clark could be at 3rd if he had read downward flight on the first bouncer…
227 & 245
I recommend finding a place with an AED and sitting next to it.
Geez, how many leadoff baserunners can we strand?
Hurdle is on a tear.
whats up with all the WORTHLESS pop ups. Cant even move a runner over.
Welcome Rockies pitcher #4
I should stop watching OG hit. I haven’t seen him hit a ball well in forever. I missed his leadoff homer yesterday, his three double game Saturday, even his three run homer off Brian Wilson I was only following through Gameday.
Has Hairston turned into a pumpkin?
253- yeah well kaiser didnt fix my hand right the last time i broke it. hah.
i should be worried
The other thin that really sucks, is that if you don’t have Cox extended cable you aren’t watching the game.
Crap!
Crap!
258- apparantly
260: You have just the basic – networks and government channels?
I was pleased to see TBS HD start today with the game.
Man, I long for the days that Peavy got ahead of hitters…
Disappointing start by Peavy but this is still a ballgame and I really really dislike the antics of Yorvit Torrealba.
How are those first two pitches not strikes?!?!?
Man Brady Clark is killing us defensively in this game.
#264: I have digital HD. I have friends calling me for updates.
Brady Clark – looking like an absolute clown on that one. It takes Giles (good for you OG!) hustling to get the ball..
Sigh. I miss Cameron.
For the second time, we needed Cameron.
Yet another play Cameron would have made. Time to face facts, my friends, whether we win or lose this is a banged-up, weak team right now.
They’re really squeezing Jake into oblivion tonight.
Seriously, this is the kind of stuff we take for granted with Cameron… Sure, he misplayed a few balls early in the season… but, geesh, we need these plays made!
Horrendous throw….crap
Clark has zero arm.
thus why clark is really a minor leaguer.
Nice throw.
…and the hits just keep on coming. Of course he hits it to Clark. Of course he does. They wouldn’t even send the runner if Cameron was out there.
Another poorly played ball by Clark. First, he did not have his momentum moving well enough towards home when he made the catch and second, he was way up the line with the throw. UGH!
Well there’s two runs that are completely a result of having Brady Clark in center.
OMFG. This is just awful
CF is now officially embarrassing.
Clark is killing us.
Is it too late to put Jason Lane in CF?
Yes, we are missing Mike Cameron right now.
I am not missing Milton Bradley, though.
Clark should have caught that.
Clark just cost us two freakin runs good grief
I’d settle for Nathan Lane in center field.
OMG! This is absolutely sad. Brady Clark is killing us out there. The plays might not be routine, but Cameron would have made all of these plays.
wow.
Peavy just needs to man up here.
Bow your neck Jake!
HUGE K.
The “no depth at AAA level” factor finally cost us (Game #163).
i think I’m going to puke
I want to win this game very badly, but I can’t see how this team can win a playoff series w/o Cameron, Bradley; with a banged-up Maddux and Young…
Have to hand it to Jake at least for getting himself out of that stranding Tulo at 3B. First reliever in next inning gets the 4-5-6 hitters though.
So much for Peavy getting his 20th win this season….
clark deserves more credit he ISNT a center fielder.
i mean that was a terrible couple of plays and there isnt much of an excuse but he shouldnt even be in center anyways hes a corner OF
I hate baseball. We’re losing because our backup CF made three terrible plays and has no arm.
299 – he might lose his era title at this rate
peavy stinks on ice in the playoffs.
290: LOL
I called it before and I’m calling it now. Rally time. This inning’s hero = Greenie.
Let’s get Jake his 20th!!!!
Thanks Jenga for knocking Cammy out of the lineup.
Past is the past. We have 3 innings. LEt’s go.
303: that’s an unfair statement…that run shouldn’t have scored last inning..
Amazing atmosphere at Colorado. Sounds like a New York vs. Boston game from the sounds of the crowd.
This Rockies bullpen is good but not invincible. Corpas, Fuentes and Hawkins rarely have 1-2-3 innings..they will make it interesting..
Rox have scored in every inning but 1 tonight. We have scored in one inning. This is not a playoff-caliber lineup at all, but if you had told me before the game that we’d have a 5 run inning I’d have told you that equals a “W” with Jake going.
Macias is supposedly good in CF…
310: still might Clayton… Keep the Faith!
That was NOT a strike!
not a strike
307- he gave up 5 before that
That half inning was just weak.
He’s called it a bunch of times for Peavy. He’s also not called it a bunch of times for Peavy.
6 outs left, next 6 batters are:
Blum
Clark (or Lane)
Lane or Ensberg or Barrett or NOG
Giles
Hairston
Kouz
yep….6 more outs left for us… we need serious rally caps boys
And we have the part of our lineup that can’t hit at all coming up next inning. Yikes.
i love peavy, but theres no excuses this time.
full rest, no shoulder issues, he has run support……
he let it get away from him today.
excellent pitcher, but not in playoff situations apparantly
321: Please stop making conclusions based on three starts. And if we had a competent center fielder, it would be 5-4 right now.
Sounds like a lot of PH’s next inning.
Why is Jake still pitching?
Well, our starting lineup is held together by bailing wire and spit.
we can get it done if peavy just grits his teeth and powers thru it.
its only 1 run.
I don’t get leaving Peavy in for this half.
322 i agreed with the centerfield issue, and clark isnt a center fielder anyways
get him out of there
I think that was gone.
yeah this wont work..
Bullpen anyone!
ROckies have some serious mojo right now. Everything and everyone including the tv announcers are betting on the Rockies.
How about we upset them?
How many HR’s will Jake give up today?
is anyone warming????
Get Jake out!
So, you take Peavy out now, right??? Put in Meredith? Try to get two??
334 – good question. Yes, apparently.
whose in the pen?
Bell is coming in.
My theory on Jake from this AM has held true. Dude never excels in important games.
Let’s bring in Bell.
Forget the sinkerball… give ‘em the HEATER!!!
um why is it bell so early??
Bell coming in. Two k’s would be just what the dr ordered here.
I love Jake, but he choked.
Might as well. It’s now or never.
Padres need to get out of this and score some runs.
340: Why weren’t all those starts down the stretch where he dominated important?
Barrett??? Oh God
Time to get Peavy.
Clark and Tomko were literally out of the game 60 days ago and now they have crucial time (leverage) in some of the biggest games in Padres history. It is a bit hard to swallow, yes. Nothing against either of the two guys(Clark/Tomko) because they performed their roles admirably but at the end the Pads brass made a mistake by being left with them to fill the roles. No one could have predicted the loss of Cameron and Jenga on the same day but I suppose you always have to prepare and bolster for the unforeseen or maybe have a decent minor league system from here on. Again, at the end of the day, the down years of our minor league system have caught up with us.
348 – it’s the ones with the extra importance that suck. All those others are still regular season games. This one isn’t, though I know it counts as one. My big hope this year was having Maddux there would cause Jake to change his approach to these kinds of games, but no luck there.
345
Clark makes some plays in CF, and Jake leaves the game with the lead…
That K was huge.
That’s one – nice Heath
he didn’t go.
are you kidding BARRETS IN????
355 – yeah he did! Bat went way past the plate
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Bell has some good stuff!
Just like I asked for! OK, now I would like 2 runs please.
Bell is the man.
355: You’re almost as bad as the announcer. Bathead has to cross the front of the plate (I think).. check your Tivo.
Anywho, clutch pitch by Heath!
Bell is rocks. He is our closer next year. Hoffman can still pitch. So the big question is, would Hoffman swallow his pride and perform in other roles ?
I meant 357
348: They were important cuz they got us here. I like Jake. I just want to see him do it in a game that really matters like today. I know he can — but he hasn’t. I’m sure he will someday — hopefully this seaon in the playoffs.
“No play for Mr. Gray!!!”
“it’s another win with just for men!!”
best commercial of all time
352
True, but he was just off most of the game, from the beginning.
Our season has come down to six outs.
need a rally.
Blummer!
Blum! PR with NOG?
Blummer starts the rally!
366 – I keep waiting for the energizer bunny on that one
I changed shirts to see if that changes our luck and i’m standing the rest of the way
Oh hey, way to go Blum. You got a hit before I could complain about not pinch hitting for you.
GY, when was the last time the blog went over 350 posts?
C’mon. I smell a Fuentes or Corpas implosion. They both pitched yesterday under high stress and were a bit erratic.
371 – I would. Wonder why Buddy isn’t?
Geez, that’s a great catch by Helton.
I would have preferred a PH for Clark.
No way Helton makes that play with a gray beard.
Brady Clark is pathetic. I know this is Coors, but why were we not trying to bunt the runner over there in the eighth inning of a one-run game?
man stress out right now
NOT BARRETTTTTT!!!!. THE CURSE, THECURSE!!!
380
good stuff — funny
381: I absolutely agree. I think that was a major mistake by Bud Black. What? Brady Clark is going to get on extra base hit??
Okay Mike, make like its our seniour year again and you’re facing me…
hang in there barrett
I remember when Barrett was the best hitting catcher in the NL.
Why didn’t Barrett run it out…WTF.
#375: Prolly last year’s playoffs.
386: Damnit Mike! You used to take me yard! I never struck you out!
nice sac K!
c’mon Gilly
Time for OG to come through
Was Barrett running? Why didn’t he run?
Does someone need to explain to him the rules?
10,000,000, lets gooooo!
Were relying on Silent L here. Ouch.
#389: First base occupied, less than two out.
389: 1 out, runner on 1st – he can’t run…OMFG!!!
When did Clark sneak into the Rockies OF?!?!?

MVP! MVP!
yesss!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. Life.
Karma swinging back our way, first with the HR that was called a double and Holliday makes his best Brady Clark impression.
MVP! MVP! THANK YOU MATT HOLLIDAY!!!!
I’ll take it..
Do we stay with Bell?
Wow. Okay, very interesting. How has Heith done during two inning stints?
worth every penny, OG
i think the whole neighborhood just heard me screaming
Keep Bell for now, he is on his game, though I don’t know what his normal outing would be.
UGLY BUT I’LL TAKE IT!
Thank you, Mr. Holliday. After seeing the official scorer’s work here at Coors, I understand why the Rockies have fewest errors in the league.
Okay, so now we know why the Rockies lead the majors in fielding percentage. That’s two errors that have been called hits.
It was only 2 batters in B7, so I stay w/ Bell. Plus, if this goes extras like it looks we will need Bell to have taken 2 here.
389, 395 couldnt run, runner on first base
Hairston is proving why he should not be a starting LF.
What a game.
OMG, I can’t believe this. I need 911.
my family think i’m insane.
Announcers say Giles got “a little help” from Holliday for that “hit.”
man o man o man. henads are sweatin
*hands
DS keeps crashing on me!!!!!
The announcers said that a leadoff walk in a tie game in the eighth is unspeakable.
that just proves that the baseball gods are against us….
Great play by Bell.
Great fundamentals, Heat.
426: that’s ironic.
that was a great play by Bell
Unspeakable.
MVP
new nickname for Holliday: “Mr. Gray”?
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Bell is a stud.
Yes!
I wonder if Bell has another inning if necessary…
bell is the man
Bell is awesome
wow, cory sullivan, .290, he’d be the best hitter on our team.
so…i guess i can’t sit down the rest of the game huh?
Big mo’ has swung. Time for the boys to ride it home… er, I mean to Philly.
A big man making big pitches in a big situation. Wow.
No play for mr holli-day
Leave Bell in for the duration.
I really wouldn’t argue with giving Bell another inning….
RE: 362
355: You’re almost as bad as the announcer. Bathead has to cross the front of the plate (I think).. check your Tivo.
A STRIKE is a legal pitch when so called by the umpire, which_
(a) Is struck at by the batter and is missed;
(b) Is not struck at, if any part of the ball passes through any part of the strike zone;
(c) Is fouled by the batter when he has less than two strikes;
(d) Is bunted foul;
(e) Touches the batter as he strikes at it;
(f) Touches the batter in flight in the strike zone; or
(g) Becomes a foul tip.
That’s the WHOLE rule gang. Flat out. There is NO definition about wrists breaking or bat heads or anything. It’s all in the judgment of the umpire, period.
We need to pinch hit for him this inning after Gonzalez and Greene reach base.
Did you see Adrian talking to Maddux before his AB? That was cool.
446: Very interesting. Thanks!
Great play there by Tulo.
so slow
who’s slower — bard or adrian?
Very glad my wife y ninos is outta town!!! =)
Let’s do this biys.
Adrian – Unhitch the trailer!
*SIGH* 7 out of 9 men beat that out… but as great a game as he has had, Gonzo just does not have wheels.
Man, I had complete confidence that Adrian was going to homer after he talked to Maddux.
That is one slow Hombre.
TBS outright sucks.
you just know we’re going extra innings…. i mean what else would this team do after this year
If we can get past the B9th, not an intimidating part of order coming up in the 10th…
Um…. I got a bad feeling about this next half inning…
I’m not sure if i can watch
Heath Bell out there again…. I can’t argue with that. I hope it doesn’t blow up in my face.
velocity is down on bell……
Yahoo burp’d on KG’s AB … what’d he do?
WOW That’s 1
How bitter is Mets Fan watching this right now?
If that is his velocity being down, I’ll take it.
Heath is throwing smoke.
Heath is gutting it up big time… but I really think we are playing with fire when he starts seeing the same batter again…
464: Strikeouts are still up.
467: so true.
Holy Holy. Bell.
471- no doubt about that!
By overmanaging, Hurdle may get burned -puts in Jamey Carroll in as a defensive replacement for Atkins and made all of those pitching moves (7).
This game was supposed to be over by the time I got to South Carolina and turned on the TV so that it could save me the trauma. What happens? Bottom of the 9th tied? I’ve now caught up on the comments, seems more like a roller coaster than a comment thread.
Clayton, thank you for reminding us. With a third of the payroll and having lost two thirds of our outfield and half our power going into a must-win week… we still have a game to watch today and they don’t…
Now… c’mon boys! Make that same statement true throughout the whole week!
477 – plus, they could’ve used Bell the last few weeks, huh?
I’m OK with the walk to Hawpe … better to be safe than sorry …
Do we stay with Bell?
I sure hope so.
F^%^$@ AAAA
Clapton turn in your thunderbolt; Bell is God!
Putting Bell in for a 3rd inning made me nervous, but damn!
Heath Bell! MVP! MVP! MVP! MVP!
I’m now a HUGE Chris Jenkins fan … to find out why, see comment #6 … nice call re: HEAT Bell
Bell for President!!!!
479: Plus, it ensures Corpas is done, and that an inferior bullpen pitcher will come in to replace him. Although, the inferior part of our lineup has to hit against him, so it all evens out.
Sorry for the language up front…But, holy fucking shit!!!! I can’t believe we are still in this!
2 2/3 of sheer guts. In the words of Tommy Boy: “That…was…AWWWWWWWEEEESOOOOME!!!!”
ladies and gentlemen . . . . Heath Bell.
Wow. Amazing performance from Bell. Absolutely amazing. that was almost “non-playoff-jake-esque”…
I’m willing to let my wife have Heath Bell’s child at this point..
My “favorite” player, Robles…
So, should we improbably win this, Bell starts Game 4?
Was Robles really our best LH option?
Who will pitch bottom of 10th? If we score, then presumably Hoffy … if not, then who? Thatcher? Brocail? Meredith? I’m thinking I’d go to Thatcher … but hopin’ we can scratch a run …
OOOOOO … whassup with Robles getting an AB here?????? Gack …
Blum needs to hit a HR here
Bell was amazing for sure.
mets fans are even more bitter because of how well matsui has played
Anyone know whose up in the pen?
robles, sledge, WFT!!!!!
how about the return of Crudge?
Robles, Blum, Sledge? Yikes.
Sledge-o-matic.
WHY SLEDGE!
who plays CF now? Lane?
497 … it’s not 14th inning … yet …
If we are tied, who do we pitch in the 10th / Meredith or Thatcher ? I will reluctantly choose Meredith.
Matt Herges has suddenly reverted back to the Matt Herges of old (set up man/closer stuff).
Robles, Blum, and Sledge. Terrmel freaking Sledge, are you kidding me? How bout Headley, or anyone else?
No walk off available but how bout a walk a round?
maybe they’ll just hit em
how many other options do we really have on the bench?
Walk! But…now Barrett.
good job termel
Steal Padres!!! DO what everyone does to you == Cammy!!!!
CAMMMYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cammy on the basepaths…shades of Gibson?
Sledge keepin’ it going!!! If nothing else, that gets us closer to the top of the order … well done! And I’m guessing he stays in to play CF?
Interesting. Does Cameron play CF in the bottom?
AWWWWWWW! Barrett, I dare this over paid loser to defy my ridicule!!!!
Barrett with a knock!
nice job barrett
Barrett got a hit. Is he allowed to do that?
Man Giles.
Barrett got a hit! It’s Destiny!
Barrett has been every chance in the world for redemption.
Br
c’mon OG
Let’s go OG!!!!!!!
Time for the orange crush.
C’mon Gilly — get a rip here
Too bad Camy hadn’t done the SB thing … but onward we go … OG TIME!
SPAMMEDEDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nervous?
532 … huh?
Ack. To the bottom.
crap — good looking swing on the 1-2 pitch . . . oh well
are we having fun yet…
529: LOL!
Let’s keep going. God….TV/MLB is loving this. 2 tied teams going into xtra innings for WCard
Who’s comin’ in to pitch? Who do you want to come in to pitch? Cast you votes now …
Dammit.
crap, gilly, not paid 10 million dollars to bounce weakly to SS. Sorry, that was my kid messing around. Wow, Camy in.
CAMERON IN CENTER!!! I FREAKING LOVE IT!!!
Very impressed with Cammy’s determination. Every throwing motion, that thumb is probably SCREAMING at him.
Can Cammy throw with the hand like that??? Can’t be any worse than Clark though.
Admittedly, I don’t like having Brocail out there. But, his demeanor is definitely reassuring.
542 … nope, Brocail …
538 … yup … 529 is the POST OF THE DAY!
Let’s get to the 14th inning … B(l)um in the top … Hoffy in the bottom … that’s the formula for success!
throwing is going to be a bit of a problem..but he’s never going to be able to hold the bat I wouldn’t think. He can’t be any worse in CF than Clark was..
I’m so damn nervous I can’t type. What a game this has been. I’m so impressed with this team and its resilience. My goodness.
542/547 … oops, I’m sorry … I thought you were saying Kevin Cameron was coming in to pitch … which woulda been shocking … cool that Mike Cameron has stayed in to play CF!
The orange squeeze?
Thank goodness Sullivan has no power.
Yeah. I’m glad I have the computer to type into. Either that or I’ll have to start smoking.
I’m OK with Sullivan trying to play long ball … one more, Bro!
LynchMob, if this goes 14 I might be dead
Time for Chris Gwynn to come off the bench…
nice job by brocail there
Let’s get 4 runs this inning!
wow…seriously…..this can’t go on much longer..i think i might be sick…
555 … hang in there, Jefe … we all just gotta hang in there … actually, I like what’s coming up in the 11th … 2/3/4 … and then KG!
2-3-4 up – this is the time! WTG Brocail!
I love the fact that Cammy is in.
It took all season, but Khalil and Kouz don’t run into each other on that pop up behind third base anymore
I’m guessing they stick with Herges … here’s the pitch counts …
Pitches-strikes –
J Peavy 118-68; H Bell 42-26; D Brocail 11-7;
J Fogg 75-49; T Buchholz 13-12; J Affeldt 7-4; R Speier 6-3; L Hawkins 15-9; B Fuentes 14-12; M Corpas 6-5; M Herges 15-8.
Yikes! I just watched the recap of Brady Clark’s play in center. OUCH! Glad I missed all of those the first time around. (Who had the line that it is hard to throw when you’re hand is gripping your throat?)
These announcers are HORRIBLE!!!!! Imagine what Matt V could do.
time for a crooked number Padres!
Cal Ripken, announcer . . . not so much
I’ll say it again — where’s TGwynn at?? probably already in Philly eating his wheaties
LM, you like the orange crush?
Meat of the order this inning fellas.
here we go!
I’m feeling good about this inning guys
Hairston’s ON – bad play, bad throw by Carroll!
OK … so if we do go 14, that means that Camy’s spot in the order will come & go … we’ll obviously PH for him … then who plays CF? Headley? Just askin’ …
Wow, Kouz with the bunt.
I’m not sure about playing for 1 run with Tulo and Holliday up next inning….
Nice hustle Scott, nice bunt Kouz.
Scared of Agon, time for the vulcan…
573
Gilly or Hairston maybe
573 – I’d guess Macias comes to CF if Cammy has to bat.
Okay, so I was meaning to post a few days ago that I no longer support my original position that KG is not clutch. Regardless of what happens here, KG has been clutch this year and I noticed.
or Lane
569 … I don’t know much about football … but I know enough about the Broncos to think 529 was *VERY* puny/ironic
Could it be? Khalil? Colorado? Then they would REALLY hate him…
578
I was going to say Macias, but this would be his first action in the bigs . . .
KK with a bunt? Hmmm … I dunno …
580 … ya, I forgot about Lane … he’ll be in CF if we get to Camy’s spot … maybe this inning?
Ensberg is on deck.
crap
Guess not.
crap
Ouch
Macias is supposedly a good defender. Lane has limited range. I’d rather see Giles in CF before Lane.
Wow we are back to making mediocre pitchers look good. Last time I checked Matt Herges was worse than mediocre.
Anyone think that we’re going to see this “baseball themed office-commercial” a bunch during post-season? Prob more if we can actually push a runner across..
in retro, KK bunting was not the right move. taking the bat out of AGON’s hands was all too easy and the rocks still got the DP they wanted.
It’s the good part of the Rockies lineup hitting this inning, too. We really needed that run.
Ugh – stomach punch right there. The one thing KG couldn’t do is GIDP, and he goes and does it. Now if we survive another 1/2 inning, it’s the bottom of the lineup for us in the 12th.
585 … OT … I’ve been playing Rotisserie baseball since 1984 … this season has been the closest of all time … if Ensberg gets a PH, the team currently in 2nd will bump up in BA … and will win the league … who cares? I do … just fyi …
Who will pitch bottom of 11th? Stay with Brocail? Why not?
I don’t like this at all. I’d bring in hoffy for this inning.
It’s getting close to mu bedtime and I really want to see Allisa Millano.
wow that was close
wow – some great D by the pitchers here tonight.
that’s a hell of a play
Ohhhhhhhh Brocails knee rolled?
that was a sign. bring in hoff.
If brocail is injured at all he MUST tell Bud here
uhoh. me no likey this matchup
we don’t need brocail thinking about his leg on every pitch.
That pitch looked good.
597,603 … no can do on Hoffy … dude needs a lead … I’m thinkin’ Thatcher is next … or Cla … not a fun choice, is it …
thank goodness. Holliday helped us out there.
i’m speechless
uh, where is Thatcher?
Bro K’s Holliday? I’m guessin’ his knee is OK … focus, Bro, focus … this next dude can HIT!
Big K by Brocail. The problem with having Kooz bunt is that you take the bat out of his hands, AND Adrian’s hands, still have a DP situation, and lower your run expectancy for the inning. I think Black messed up there.
not a bad choice all things considered
im not sure thatcher could handle it right now. its HUGE pressure right now
Again, I’m OK pitching around Helton … careful, boys, careful!
This is giving me an ulcer.
ugh
Time for Thatcher against the lefty. Please.
uh oh …
Here’s the season right here. Thatcher vs. Hawpe.
Thatcher vs. Hawpe.
Man, this is amazing. Okay, they got KG out with the game on the line. It’s our turn to get Hawpe out.
here’s what keeps our season going….good lord…
Are we having fun yet?
615 – we’re gonna find out.
Solid, gutty work by Brocail. He had to get Carrol there and didn’t, but overall a very solid effort.
615
this is where we find out what we got in the Linebrink trade
Let’s go boys
621: Hopefully this isn’t the season. It would be nice to have Hoffy against a Boston hitter be the season.
615 … valid point … but I don’t think there’s any choice … alternative LHPs are Hampson or Ledezma …
crap. these minor league pitchers scare me. But padres had their chances. The offense screwed us again.
C’mon Thatch!!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Way to go Thatcher!!!
he pulled, statement retracted
YYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great job Thatcher
Now THIS is a bullpen–he ate him alive.
Smoked him!!!!!
THATCH!!
from what i’ve already seen, this kid has got big time guts. I’m a believer! Kid’s got ice water in his veins! YES!
bullet, meet dodge.
Yo, Thatch!!! Gettin’ us to that 14th inning!!!
Awkward question: Has anyone else found a “lucky stance” or “lucky pose” (or both) during the course of this game? Um, if not, then WHY NOT!?!?!?
NOW IS THE TIME.
Cammy’s gonna put the go-ahead run home next inning with a suicide squeeze.
Holy cow, Ive been out for an hour and half and was expecting to come back to a Padre loss.
We need some points Matty!!
We keep sending guys w/ 1-dot and 2-dot era’s and the Rox keep sending guys w/ 3-dot and 4-dot era’s; however the disparity in the lineups makes this a draw so far. Yikes.
If we do manage to win, we will be wiped out for the playoff.
they have to stop cutting to Ripken
I like how we’re set up right now, our bullpen v. their bullpen.
643 … this coming from the “iron man”?
Offense, let’s go! The bully has been HUGE.
This game is an instant classic, I swear… and I HATE that phrase.
651: Yuppers. LOL!
PM, have a drink and relax, will ya?
Whatever happens from here on out I can accept it. For these guys to battle back like this shows a lot of heart.
Gotta love having Ensberg off the bench.
Pinch run Macias, right?
okay NOW bunt it….
lead man on with some ‘gifts’ from the ump…we’ll take it any way we get it
643
I sit in the living room during the bottom of the inning, go in the kitchen in the top
I also changed my shirt in the 2nd inning — going to a TGwynn replica model
NICE BUNT!
wait, nevermind, I didn’t realize that Ensberg had come in on a double switch.
Myrow PH.
Myrow?? they really want this guy to succeed don’t they?
Lane’s a righty, correct?
I put on the shirt from Dyersville, IA…
a Field of Dreams is what we need right now.
So our remaining bench is Morton, NOG, Headley, Stansberry, Lane and Macias.
i’m not drinking at this point….i have a straight iv of alcohol going now.
Myrow to PH here?
661: Nice
Also, did Myrow yawn just before going into the batters box?
670 if he did that’s awesome
Nice shot of Bell with the rally cap on.
now would be a excellent time for the PCL batting champ to deliver a hit…
I like Myrow as a PH here … he’s a hitter … now’s the time to SHOW IT!!!
Workin’ the count in his favor … 2-1 …
Great pitch to get Myrow.
Now Barrett.
Barret for the win! Come on Mike!!!!
Myrow may have had a great year in Portland, but he has struggled to even make contact at the ML level.
CMON BARRETT!
what’s the record for IGD posts?
OK … shift gears … it’s “Reverse the Curse” time … c’mon, MB … do like an MB should!
up to Barrett, of all people.
Oh mighty Baseball Gods, teach us humility for our Barrett bashing….
2-0. Maybe they are pitching around Barrett?
GY, regardless of what happens tonight, thanks to you for your dedication to the Padres and to this blog. It’s always fun to come back and catch up on what everyone’s thoughts are. Plus, some of the comments are hilarious and make my day.
My compliments on another year (not completed) well done.
C’mon Barrett! Hit it like it’s Zambrano!
barret being selective??? holy crap
684: stop talking like the season is over….we’re winning this friggin game
685 … pretend it’s AJ!
Herges just keeps going and going…
I disagree with Barrett taking 3-0. What good does a walk do?
687: Note: “Year (not completed.)”
689: I hope his arm comes flying off
Whats with Barrett almost drawing a walk? Is that for real?
690: TGwynn always said take the 3-0 pitch because you’re likely to see the same pitch on 3-1
690 … it gets OG to the plate … which I think is a good thing …
Helton looked almost off the base on that.
THis team is lousy at hitting w/ RISP
690
you really are Bip Roberts aren’t you??
Early ’90s you were my favorite man
680: I think north of 800 during a game that should not be mentioned…
All together : HOME RUN, Another win with Just for Men!!
Onward … I like where we are … the 13th will feature the top of the order (sans KK, a move I’m not sure of, but what’s done is done) … and/or the 14th will feature B(l)um … onward!
Way too many runners stranded on second.
can anybody on the fucking pathetic team hit the fucking ball!!!!!!!!
What a game, and what a fun season.
Nice job Brocail and Bell.
Shut em down pitchers!
Lane in CF. Thatcher is back out on the mound.
700: that commercial makes me sick to my stomach
Rockies have Bellorin, Iannetta, Barmes, Quintanilla, Stewart, Baker and Taveras on the bench (I think T
