sp: Jake Peavy (19-6, 2.36) vs Josh Fogg (10-9, 4.79)

Analyze this one however you’d like; it’s one game, and anything can happen. That is my greatest fear and also my greatest hope. Go Padres!

    1: Yeah, my stomach is in knots.

    And GY, true that. The fact that it’s one game gives me hope, and also feels like a kick in the gut. One hiccup, and the season is finished. Of course, the Rox are playing under the same sort of pressure. However, it just seems like since they’re not supposed to be here anyway, the pressure is significantly lighter on their side.

  47. Posted October 1, 2007 at 5:01 pm | Permalink

    That wasn’t a complete disaster but the Rox didn’t have any trouble putting good wood on the ball. Jake needs to settle down or he’s going to get shelled. Just once I’d like to see Jake come through in a big game. There’s still time for that if he gets it together.

    I want to win this game very badly, but I can’t see how this team can win a playoff series w/o Cameron, Bradley; with a banged-up Maddux and Young…

    Have to hand it to Jake at least for getting himself out of that stranding Tulo at 3B. First reliever in next inning gets the 4-5-6 hitters though.

    Rox have scored in every inning but 1 tonight. We have scored in one inning. This is not a playoff-caliber lineup at all, but if you had told me before the game that we’d have a 5 run inning I’d have told you that equals a “W” with Jake going.

    Time to get Peavy.

    Clark and Tomko were literally out of the game 60 days ago and now they have crucial time (leverage) in some of the biggest games in Padres history. It is a bit hard to swallow, yes. Nothing against either of the two guys(Clark/Tomko) because they performed their roles admirably but at the end the Pads brass made a mistake by being left with them to fill the roles. No one could have predicted the loss of Cameron and Jenga on the same day but I suppose you always have to prepare and bolster for the unforeseen or maybe have a decent minor league system from here on. Again, at the end of the day, the down years of our minor league system have caught up with us.

    348 – it’s the ones with the extra importance that suck. All those others are still regular season games. This one isn’t, though I know it counts as one. My big hope this year was having Maddux there would cause Jake to change his approach to these kinds of games, but no luck there.

    RE: 362
    355: You’re almost as bad as the announcer. Bathead has to cross the front of the plate (I think).. check your Tivo.

    A STRIKE is a legal pitch when so called by the umpire, which_
    (a) Is struck at by the batter and is missed;
    (b) Is not struck at, if any part of the ball passes through any part of the strike zone;
    (c) Is fouled by the batter when he has less than two strikes;
    (d) Is bunted foul;
    (e) Touches the batter as he strikes at it;
    (f) Touches the batter in flight in the strike zone; or
    (g) Becomes a foul tip.

    That’s the WHOLE rule gang. Flat out. There is NO definition about wrists breaking or bat heads or anything. It’s all in the judgment of the umpire, period.

    OK … so if we do go 14, that means that Camy’s spot in the order will come & go … we’ll obviously PH for him … then who plays CF? Headley? Just askin’ …

    Okay, so I was meaning to post a few days ago that I no longer support my original position that KG is not clutch. Regardless of what happens here, KG has been clutch this year and I noticed.

    in retro, KK bunting was not the right move. taking the bat out of AGON’s hands was all too easy and the rocks still got the DP they wanted.

    Ugh – stomach punch right there. The one thing KG couldn’t do is GIDP, and he goes and does it. Now if we survive another 1/2 inning, it’s the bottom of the lineup for us in the 12th.

    Big K by Brocail. The problem with having Kooz bunt is that you take the bat out of his hands, AND Adrian’s hands, still have a DP situation, and lower your run expectancy for the inning. I think Black messed up there.
