  1. Stephen Says:

    My hands are already clammy.

  2. Phantom Says:

1: Yeah, my stomach is in knots.

And GY, true that. The fact that it’s one game gives me hope, and also feels like a kick in the gut. One hiccup, and the season is finished. Of course, the Rox are playing under the same sort of pressure. However, it just seems like since they’re not supposed to be here anyway, the pressure is significantly lighter on their side.

  3. LynchMob Says:

Let’s have some fun tonight, folks … expect GREAT things from Jake … he’s *our* man! The top of our lineup will score some runs! Onward!

  4. Stephen Says:

    Get me a towel!

  5. Phantom Says:

I’ve got to leave for class at 5, so I’ll be MIA for tonite’s affair. I’ll be able to listen all the way up to 6 o’clock. Here’s hoping I don’t miss much in class because we’re already soundly in control of this one.

  6. LynchMob Says:

I like Chris Jenkins’ (SD-UT) NLCYA ballot …

NL Cy Young: 1. Jake Peavy, San Diego; 2. Brandon Webb, Arizona; 3. Heath Bell, San Diego.

  7. LynchMob Says:

    Lineups posted …

    http://bbdirect.stats.com/mlb/.....=271001127

    … it’s what I was expecting for the Padres … Bard + B(l)um + Clark in 6/7/8 spots … I’m good … let’s GO!

  8. LynchMob Says:

    I like that Jake’s .561 OPS dwarfs Fogg’s .291 :-)

  9. Didi Says:

8: Jake will help himself in this game. I hope the rest of the team are ready to help Jake as well by scoring lots and lots of runs early, late, and often.

  10. Jason Says:

TBS is blacking out the game here. I can’t even watch the padres in a nationally televised game. This sucks.

  11. Ian C. Says:

    9- hell yeah!!!

  12. Masticore317 Says:

    Alright fellas. Lets do this.

  13. Nick G. Says:

    Let’s get it on!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Jason Says:

nevermind I feel silly for making that last post. It looks like they are going to show it after all.

  15. Marsh Says:

    Let’s get it on!

  16. Rick Schroder (Turbine Dude) Says:

We got our A-Team in tonight. Let’s get it done…

  17. Nick G. Says:

    14
Gee — why would you think that? Maybe because episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond played right up until 7:30?

At about 7:20 I had a minor panic attack when I turned on the TV, until I realized what they were doing.

  18. James Says:

i cant get to any game feeds today at work, so please talk it up!

  19. Rick Schroder (Turbine Dude) Says:

I hope the Padres defense is better than the Chargers tonight.

  20. Masticore317 Says:

Hey, it’s a single in the books.

  21. LynchMob Says:

    KK gets us going!

  22. Ben B. Says:

Uh oh. These announcers believe in momentum and that Kouz’s bloop will give him confidence.

  23. LynchMob Says:

    After top of 1st …

    Pitches-strikes - J Fogg 19-12.

    Ground balls-fly balls - J Fogg 1-0.

    Batters faced - J Fogg 4.

(don’t worry, I won’t do this all night … I gotta head outta here at 510ish)

  24. Marsh Says:

Man, I would have really liked to see KG get up with a couple of men on. I have no stats to prove it, by recent recollection is that KG sees the ball VERY well at Coors….

  25. Marsh Says:

Just to spite the Rockies, I have foresaken my normal Coors Light preference for Busch Light (remember: I’m living on a students’ budget!!!)…

  26. Marsh Says:

    I hate Kaz Matsui.

  27. Masticore317 Says:

    Khalil loves Coors.

  28. Geoff Young Says:

    #24: .340/.407/.708 in 162 PA.

  29. Marsh Says:

Was I just in denial going into this game, or should we have predicted that this would be the way the first inning would go?!?

  30. Phantom Says:

Leitner keeps saying things like “Matsui isn’t hitting” and “Tulo doesn’t have a hit off of Jake”

    Could he please just stfu?

  31. Marsh Says:

Jake’s been squeezed on three pitches already this inning, including one to Kaz Matsui..

  32. Masticore317 Says:

This isn’t really a good start.

  33. Rick Schroder (Turbine Dude) Says:

I can only take so much of this before my hearts gives out and I need an ambulance.

  34. Marsh Says:

Man, this just feels so typical of being a San Diego sports fan. I’m seriously getting burned out on the “optimism” thing…

  35. Marsh Says:

    Unreal.

  36. Ben B. Says:

There goes the plan of getting an early lead and never trailing.

  37. Jason Says:

I’m so pessimistic about this game and it looks like my fears are being realized. ONE STRIKE AWAY!!! That’s how close they were.

  38. Geoff Young Says:

Getting it done in Milwaukee would have been good. Get ready to make nice with your favorite Mets fan…

  39. Masticore317 Says:

Guys, there’s plenty of game left.

  40. Marsh Says:

    Cruel world. Cruel, cruel world.

  41. Ben B. Says:

I agree with Masticore. We’re giving up down two against Josh Fogg in Coors Field?

  42. Zagz Says:

Peavy not do well in a big game? You don’t say…

    Padres better start hitting quick.

  43. Clayton Says:

Jake, jake, jake, jake, jake….(shaking head)

  44. Ben B. Says:

42: You mean like the big game last week against the Giants where he gave up one run in 7 innings? You mean the games this September against the Dodger, Giants, Diamondbacks, and Rockies where he has completely dominated, with one bad game on short rest?

  45. Geoff Young Says:

#41: Not giving up, just hating life a little. There’s a difference. ;-)

  46. Ian C. Says:

yeah what is his problem with big games, i just dont get why he crumbles under pressure.

he usually has a whole bunch of confidence! where did it go?

  47. anthony Says:

That wasn’t a complete disaster but the Rox didn’t have any trouble putting good wood on the ball. Jake needs to settle down or he’s going to get shelled. Just once I’d like to see Jake come through in a big game. There’s still time for that if he gets it together.

  48. LynchMob Says:

    gnash

  49. Marsh Says:

    WTF?!? Josh Fogg?!?!

  50. LynchMob Says:

    After 1 full …

    Pitches-strikes - J Peavy 25-16; J Fogg 19-12.

    Ground balls-fly balls - J Peavy 0-3; J Fogg 1-0.

    Batters faced - J Peavy 7; J Fogg 4.

… hmmm … it felt a lot worse than that, didn’t it?

  51. Clayton Says:

Geez, this seems to have all the earmarks of another mediocre starter looking like an all-star against our lineup

  52. FosterbrooksRobinson Says:

The announcing team on TBS is down there with the likes of Hawk and Wimpy…

  53. Marsh Says:

“Losing is a disease, as infectious as syphillis”

    -The Natural

(I really think not hitting well is too)

  54. Ben B. Says:

Not helping that Fogg is getting that pitch three inches outside while Peavy didn’t getting anything off the corner.

  55. Marsh Says:

    Shakespeare!!! Nice job!

  56. Masticore317 Says:

    Great AB by Bard.

  57. Ben B. Says:

We lost our best hitter and another one of our better hitters, so obviously the offense isn’t very good now. But the announcers seem to be completely unaware of park effects in discussing the offense, which is actually pretty middle of the road when healthy.

  58. Marsh Says:

Bardo= “the Anti-Padre” (like Milton Bradley)…. these guys are great members of the Padre Portfolio,..

  59. LynchMob Says:

B(l)um proves that not every fly ball goes out of Coors …

  60. LynchMob Says:

    After top of 2nd …

    Pitches-strikes - J Peavy 25-16; J Fogg 37-24.

    Ground balls-fly balls - J Peavy 0-3; J Fogg 2-1.

    Batters faced - J Peavy 7; J Fogg 8.

… Jake starts us off next inning …

  61. FosterbrooksRobinson Says:

    TBS=Those Braves Stink…

  62. Greg Weeks Says:

But we’re hitting the ball–these should start falling, or flying.

  63. Zagz Says:

44: Wouldn’t call any of those big games. I’d consider a big game a playoff game, or one with lots of hype, such as his start versus Boston or his short rest start versus AZ.

The only somewhat recent “big” game I can think of that Peavy did good in was the start against Clemens a few years ago.

  64. Clayton Says:

    Yorvit Torrealba? Really Jake?

  65. Masticore317 Says:

    Ick.

  66. Greg Weeks Says:

    ****, I meant the Padres…

  67. Nick G. Says:

    mothergrabber!

    WTF?????????

  68. Mark M Says:

Somehow I thought this would happen.

  69. Geoff Young Says:

    Yuck.

  70. anthony Says:

at least he struck out the pitcher

  71. Jason Says:

I’m turning this off. Maybe me not watching it will somehow improve the ball club. One strike away.

  72. Brian G. Says:

Only his 12th HR allowed in 220 IP…

  73. Mark M Says:

It seems like when the game is a big one, Peavy goes into gung-ho he-man mode and gets shelled.

  74. Nick G. Says:

    WHY WHY WHY??????????????????

Why am I a baseball fan??? What the hell is wrong with me?

    This is excruciating

  75. Jason Says:

74: yeah I wonder the same thing myself

  76. Marsh Says:

I can’t believe I cancelled recording “Prison Break” in order to watch this ****.

  77. Zagz Says:

I’m not giving up yet, but I’m not going to torture myself by watching anymore either. Hopefully when I check back in a little while all will be right with the world.

  78. JP Says:

Peavy actually looks more composed under this Blitzkrieg than during past struggles. He must battle through this and hope the offense can have a big inning or two.

  79. Nick G. Says:

    77

    Probably a good move

  80. dprat Says:

Big rally coming - Peavy to lead it off.

  81. Ben B. Says:

29 of 30 fans end the season crushed. It’s the nature of the format.

  82. Christopher Keach Says:

Jiminy Christmas people! I check the score for the first time and already we’re down 3-nil? This is unacceptable! Get with it, boys!

Here we go Padres, here we go (clap clap)
Here we go Padres, here we go (clap clap)
Here we go Padres, here we go (clap clap)

  83. Masticore317 Says:

    The Jake. Cool.

  84. Ben B. Says:

At least Jake steps up his hitting in the clutch.

  85. JP Says:

Fogg finally got squeezed - might be a long night with McClelland’s strike zone –

  86. JP Says:

We will get to Fogg. Can Peavy stabilize ?

  87. Masticore317 Says:

Nice. Two on, no outs. Lets put something on the board.

  88. Nick G. Says:

c’mon Superhero, let’s go — base knock her

  89. Mark O Says:

Ok….I’m here now and I just opened my first beer….things will get better from now on..

  90. Masticore317 Says:

Time do do some damage, Padre style.

  91. Nick G. Says:

    here

  92. Ben B. Says:

90: I don’t know, Padre style might mean a bases loaded double play and then a pop out.

  93. Nick G. Says:

    dammit

  94. Marsh Says:

****! PEAVY, you can make that!!!!! OMG! ****!!!

  95. Geoff Young Says:

    More stellar baserunning.

  96. Masticore317 Says:

    UH OH

  97. Nick G. Says:

    YESSSSS!!!!!!!

  98. Greg Weeks Says:

    Adrian!

  99. Geoff Young Says:

    Adrian had seen enough. Nice!

  100. Rick Schroder (Turbine Dude) Says:

    AGONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  101. Marsh Says:

    AGON!!!!

    EL HOMBRE!!!!

SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!!!

SAY HELLO TO 100 RBI AND 30 HR!!!!!!!!!

  102. Masticore317 Says:

    DEAR GOD!!!

  103. Ben B. Says:

    YESSSS!!!!! ADRIAN!!!!!

I was just about to suggest Peavy didn’t score to make Adrian’s homer a more dramatic grand slam.

  104. Nick G. Says:

HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW??? THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKIN’ ‘BOUT!!!!!

  105. Geoff Young Says:

Shakespeare! This is the Fogg we were expecting.

  106. Ian C. Says:

HELL YES WE ARE HITTING THE BALL

  107. JP Says:

Now that’s the Fogg I have come to know.

  108. anthony Says:

The real Peavy started to surface last inning, now we see the real Fogg

  109. Mark O Says:

Let’s get more……don’t let up now boys!!!!!

  110. Masticore317 Says:

    Lets load them up again.

  111. Nick G. Says:

    Make ‘em pay Brady!

  112. Rick Schroder (Turbine Dude) Says:

I can’t believe they are walking Silent L.

  113. Sean Callahan Says:

Come on Blum - deliver the death blow..

  114. Marsh Says:

You know things are difficult when you are walking Geoff Blum intentionally…

  115. Masticore317 Says:

    Nice hustle…another run.

  116. Sean Callahan Says:

Or Clark. How about two grand slams in one inning?

  117. Mark O Says:

Great slide at 2nd by Blum….

  118. Nick G. Says:

    good slide Blummer

  119. Clayton Says:

Adrian joins the exclusive 30-0 club.

    Yes! Nice slide Blummer!

  120. JP Says:

    Great job Blummer !!

  121. Nick G. Says:

    119

    that was funny

  122. Oside Jon Says:

driving home listening and was ready to get on here and write my assesment of how crappy we were playing. Then GONZO went grand slam. Great job geting runners on this inning.

  123. Marsh Says:

Great slide by Blum…. man, he’s got pretty hair….

  124. Rick Schroder (Turbine Dude) Says:

    C’mon Jake!

  125. Mark O Says:

lets go Jake…one more hit this inning

  126. Mark O Says:

Ok….nice inning…now it’s time for Jake to bear down and hang some zeros..

  127. Nick G. Says:

    OK . . . . shut ‘em down

Ripken in the studio for TBS . . . where’s TGwynn at???

  128. Ben B. Says:

All right, gotta hold ‘em this inning against the heart of the Rockie lineup.
