Pretty slick…
Geoff Blum is batting second. Somewhat disturbing.
Bard in starting at catcher. Hopefully the good karma from this will counteract the doom ensured by Geoff’s proclamation that this is a mismatch on paper.
Baseball reference is the dopest site ever. I wish I could get onto it at work.
1 – yowza. Looking at that page almost made my head explode. That is a *lot* of data.
And on second look, that page is really useful, if I were, say, an announcer. I’d know a great deal, very quickly, about any pitcher-batter matchup. Very slick.
Re: 2 as someone who has a stong distaste for Blum (for reasons other than poor play) I have to admit he has been hitting very well since the all star break, but his D is still kills the pads every night.
Yeah, gotta give Blum some props. He’s having a career year, with an OPS+ of 95 and an EQA of .262.
Is anyone else’s Cox 4SD HD messing up?
Has Peavy fallen in love with his curveball? His first three offspeed pitches were the curve, all for balls, and when he finally threw the slider he struck out Duncan.
First two pitches to Pujols were curves for balls.
Good grief – 15 pitch AB for Rolen. The ‘pen is going to get an early wakeup call this evening.
Yikes. Peavy threw 29 pitches in that inning.
That inning he just pitched to Rolen will cost Peavy later.
Perhaps he shouldn’t have pitched around Pujols with two outs and the bases empty.
Anthony Reyes, beginning his way back…
nice AB by Mack; somewhere deep inside of Busch stadium that have the Padres voodoo doll hexed; we played them well in the regular season last year, but, of course, the playoffs negated that.
Lousy as they are, they still strike fear in my heart. There is never a mismatch with STL. Jeff Weaver was supposed to be a mismatch last year, and they forgot to tell him.
We are on the way to making a fringe Major Leaguer look like he belongs. Damned decent of us.
The Cardinals are doing a good job of holding Jake’s out pitch; Rolen held off several nasty sliders, as did Molina.
I know Reyes is supposed to suck, but those two curves to Bard were pretty good. Nice way to sneak one by the SS.
That thing was smoked to right by OG!
I was just typing that I had an “icky” feeling about GB’s AB. It would have been nice for Jake to get that sac down. Little things matter, boys, come on Mike…
Let’s go, Khalil. Get a hit, dude.
I got a baaad feeling about this game; hopefully I am wrong. What is with KK? Since Enberg, he has been swinging early and often.
Let’s go Kouz. Good AB. Come on.
In KK’s defense, Gameday thought that ball was inside as well.
Isn’t Edmonds supposed to washed up?
No corners for you Jake! You get nothing!
My cat and I are enjoying this game very much, thank you. Anyone else here?
My dogs give their regards to your cat.
Yes, 0-0 through 4 with Jake at 80 pitches vs. Reyes is not how the script was supposed to read, but Jake is battling. Don’t know where that shows up in the stats, but he does not have his best stuff, the offense is flat, it is 90 degrees and he is not giving in.
Win or lose, this game shows Peavy really has passion for his craft.
Eighty pitches is too many for four innings. Jake’s working way too hard to this point. The most we can expect now is six innings, and maybe less if he has another like the first.
Wait, was that a corner that was not annoited to Reyes? Wow…
Imagine the stench in the locker rooms after this game. Yikes.
Padres notes are up at padres.com … good stuff from Boomer and on Nick Schmidt being shutdown.
The padres hitters get little respect from the umpires.
Repeat 25, a few times…
Jake’s working quick this inning.
Jake needs an inning like that. Ten pitches and done. Then the offense can start slapping this guy around, sorta like Davi….nevermind. Forgot we weren’t talking about him today.
Have we been at least getting hits tonite, or are we just generally having crap ABs?
Pitched that one like he had somewhere else to be.
#37: Pretty much crap.
Give Reyes some credit. He is getting his curve over, placing it well, and throwing the fastball to mix it up. He is pitching well. It would be nice for smarter AB’s, though. That swing by AGon…; outside corner, trying to pull, GIDP waiting to happen…
I am watching this on MLB Extra Innings, so getting the STL broadcast. I had some friends who lived there for a bit and were amazed at food habits of people there. Lots of unhealthy food, incredibly rich. The bulk of the ads on the network are McD’s, Steak n Shake, maybe an Applebee’s or two. So, is it that they eat poorly, thus the companies move in or did the companies move in and people eat poorly. Yes, this is actually more important than Pujols vs. Peavy.
Anybody actually watching this game (I’m watching MLB Gameday) think Peavy can go another inning?
I think Jake is good for a full nine regardless of his pitch count.
Gameday actually keeps up with my XM broadcast pretty well. Good AB by KK so far
#41: I think it’s that way in much of the country; most of what I ate on my trip was fried. I’ve been eating Asian food almost constantly since I returned.
On another note, the Dodgers lost, 4-0, to Cincy.
Good job by Kouz
They should video tape that AB by KK and have the team study it. Nice work.
Great AB by Kouz. Let’s score runs, boys!
47, er, I guess it is already on video, but you get my point.
Can we score with Jake still the pitcher of record?
