There was a rumor that Sunday’s game might be canceled due to extreme apathy. The truth is, it would have been, but nobody could be bothered to do the canceling.

  1. Iguchi well on his way to striking out 100 times. I would say that overall he has been a failure. Also, is it just me or does anyone notice who very average his range is defensively ?

  2. I think the next four months will determine if he has been a failure.

  3. #2@Kevin: I would be suprised, if Iguchi is a Padre for the next four months.

  4. Greene lays of a low outside pitch, then doubles on the next. They are skiing down bandini mountain in Hades.

  5. #1@JP: It also looks like he is slow on the pivot on double plays.

  6. #5@Kelly in SD: My perception is just the oppisite. It looks to me, like turning the pivot is what Iguchi does best.

  7. #4@Field39:
I used to love those commercials.

  8. Has Ducksnorts settled on a theme song for this year? I know we’re winning today (so far) and I’m not trying to bum us out but how about “Let Down” by Radiohead?

I’m “let down” but I’m “hanging around”.

  9. Kouz!Kouz!Kouz!Kouz!Kouz!Kouz!Kouz!Kouz!Kouz!Kouz!

  10. Because it went to the second “deck”

  11. #6@Field39: It is not something I have noticed over the whole year, but over the last few nights, he just seems slow. I don’t know if it’s footwork or transfer or throws without much on them, but something seems slow.

  12. Mongo hit ball far. They should think long and hard before moving Kouz, and if they move him it can’t be for 50% off.

  13. Still a gold glover

  14. #12@Field39: Maybe Kouz is just one of those slow starters. I remember Steve Finley being an atrocious April/sometimes May hitter

  15. Nice play Shrek & PMac

  16. #3@Field39: Sure. But two months of a season is not enough to call anyone a failure.

  17. Shrek really needs to hold onto that since PMac didn’t make contact. I know PMac was very close to him, but still.

  18. Looking for a new lose.

  19. Great defense guys, should have been no runs, but now 3. Mad Dog is pi55ed.

  20. I am not impressed at all, with Pmac’s baseball IQ.

  21. I thought college players were supposed to be more fundamentally sound? McAnulty sure seems like he makes a lot of dumb plays out there — I wonder if he was like that in the minors?

Not his fault that Maddux decided to follow the Trevor Hoffman game plan against Adam Dunn though — you think Dunn’s eyes popped out when he saw a pitch up and over the plate from Maddux?

  22. And Shrek leads off the inning with another poor at bat, swinging first pitch at a low outside pitch (on TV), swinging second pitch at a high one, and getting another poor swing on the third pitch and grounding out.

  23. 17: You are right but P-Mac still should have back up the play and not trying for it. That’s twice P-Mac has done that I remember.
Should have been out of the inning with no runs.

  24. I know PMac screwed up royally. He is a born DH. Except he doesn’t have the power. He is just atrocious in the field. When I was really watching games in April, I was shocked at how poorly he played the position.

  25. Did that actually bounce down the tunnel? Lousy time for a ground-rule double.

  26. Kouz crushed that ball, and it hits a glove.

  27. now clay is trying to tick off Hairston Jr. by throwing over to first. Nice.

  28. ouch. Clay, not again….

  29. Of course….

  30. They are locked into that goal of 111 loses and a new recdord in Padre futility.

  31. You have to hand it to the Padres, each game they find new and interesting ways to lose.

Right now, my main hope for the Padres is that Stephen Strasburg stays healthy until this time next year.

  32. #31@Schlom: He will stay healthy until his first workout as a Padre. Then…

  33. GIDP…

    Of course.

  34. Holy crap.. did I just see that?

  35. Nice AB by Khalil there. Watches strike one right down the middle, swings at one around the letters, takes one in the dirt and then predictably waves at a slider outside. We’re going to lose anyway so I guess it’s not even worth getting worked up over.

  36. Results be damned, I really hated the decision to have Hairston bunt. But credit to the boys for coming back.

  37. I think the 5th inning nicely summarized our season thus far. A routine fly ball should have ended the Reds’ half of the inning with no score, but it’s dropped. The Reds get 3 when Dunn homers on a fat pitch. In the Padres’ half of the inning, with runners on first and second Adrian rips a ball down the right field line that should score both of them. Instead, it hops over the fence and only one scores, leaving runners on second and third with one out. Kouz crushed a ball right at the third baseman, and then Khalil K’s.

The season in a microcosm: stupidity, bad luck, and bad play all coalesce to royally screw the team.

  38. The boys are fighting hard today, though. Coming back to tie in the eighth, ninth and eleventh.

I really hope we win. All the benefit of the comebacks could turn into “why do we even bother” if we lose anyway.

  39. Beavers (win) and Missions (loss) also played extras today.

Headley went 4-5 with a double, HR, and walk.

Let’s win this friggin’ game already.

  40. This is a nightmare in slow motion.

  41. Hey a lead-off double… :-)

And the only place he goes is back 90 feet to first base to play defense some more… :-(

  42. How many in a row can Harang get? Sitting on the double hat-trick, can he make it a treble?

Peavy had 9 in a row last year. Harang definitey picked the right team to break the record against. Bigger issue is how many more innings does he have?

  43. #43@Sean Callahan: If Dusty is willing blow off his next start, he will just stay in until he gets the win.

  44. Figures Giles would prevent us from making the national media tonight…

  45. 45 comments. That’s less than three an inning.

  46. Damn, Hoffman is the reason the Padres are even in extra innings.

  47. My family and I left to look at houses, go to El Cuervo for Mexican food, and go shopping at Costco after the sixth inning. I get home and the game is still going on.

    Wow.

  48. #46@Kevin: Well, I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m pretty much speechless at this point.

Reality started to set in for me about 2 weeks ago.

  49. Of course, this game is a little more exciting than the 22 inning game.
