There was a rumor that Sunday’s game might be canceled due to extreme apathy. The truth is, it would have been, but nobody could be bothered to do the canceling.

  1. nice job by Josh Banks here

  2. 6 homers and 11 doubles. A little different than against Colorado. I am impressed by what I have seen of Banks.

  3. #50@Kelly in SD: I find this one more frustrating because Hoffman blew this one, making it a marathon.

  4. The Padres didn’t walk anyone between David Ross in the top of the 6th and the two intentional walks in the 17th.

  5. Harang, Volquez. How many pitchers can Baker overuse?

  6. Banks with 5 decent innings…

So, we have Henn remaining in the bullpen plus Wolf, Ledezma and Huber. Ledezma pitched yesterday and Wolf pitched 7 innings on Thursday. I wonder if we don’t score if Banks goes another?

  7. #53@Kevin: Yeah, I am still reviewing Gameday to see what happened.

    Checks

Was it really Hoffman’s fault? I see two infield singles, a regular single and 3 Ks. Was Hoffman wild? I see 21 strikes to 7 balls.
    What happened?

  8. #56@Masticore317: Yucky Sean Henn was a starter in the minors for a while. If he could come in for an inning or two without giving up nine runs, I’d say he’s next in line.

  9. #55@Kevin: The answer to your question is: Dusty Baker is insane.

  10. #47@Kevin: You could blame Kouz for tying it in the 8th, Hariston for tying it in the 9th or Giles for tying it in the 12th.

Better yet, blame the three unearned runs that McAnulty and Hariston gave the Reds.

  11. damn Freel

  12. now would be a good time for the ol’ hidden ball trick

  13. #57@Kelly in SD: I was actually just going by the boxscore. So I speak from ignorance.

  14. Kooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooozzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  15. I think Freel has been playing too long today. And that reminds me of something the Pads would do.

  16. #60@Sean Callahan: It’s hard to blame players for doing good things. The unearned runs are an issue though.

  17. Banks is still hitting 90-91 on the gun after 75 plus pitches.

  18. #65@Kelly in SD: The Padres lost the last marathon because of an error by Greene, who has no backup.

  19. gameday had that one at the fence — how close was it to being gone?

  20. #66@Kevin: Trevor didn’t help, but he didn’t “blow it” any more than any of the other pitchers that have given up the other 8 runs today.

You can’t assume Hariston would have hit a home run if it was tied in the bottom of the ninth.

  21. That’s gotta be it for Banks after throwing two yesterday!

  22. #48@Kelly: El Cuervo is amazing! I don’t live in SD anymore but I make a stop everytime I am in town and am lookin forward to some rolled tacos when I’m out there in July

  23. Lets get at least one guy on to get to Giles – time for the ORANGE CRUSH!

  24. #55@Kevin: The Reds are screwed for the next several days after this!

  25. No Sean Henn!!! Let’s end it here boys!!

  26. Why don’t they make Voloquez, tuck that monster chain away? It couldn’t hurt.

  27. #75@Nick G: That’s definitely gotta be added incentive!!!

  28. Is Henn up in the pen? I wonder if they’d have Wolf go an inning instead?

  29. #74@Masticore317: Arroyo pinch hit. So they have only Cueto left. Baker used three relievers for less than an inning. They combined to pitch two innings. Wow.

  30. #79@Masticore317: Screw Henn, get Buddy up in the pen!
He’s probably got a few innings in him

  31. at least Scotty stole the base there, so it’s like a SH

  32. #81@Nick G: I’m all for that.

#80@Kevin: If Baker brings Cueto also he may get fired on the spot. There’s gonna have a very long week ahead of them.

Nice at bat by the Gooch…way to battle. I see Hairston is on 2nd just in time for the crush!

  33. #80@Kevin: Again, Baker is insane. He’s put his team in a bit of a pickle here.

  34. Some sort of error and now Giles is on 1B?

  35. you know what would be nice? A wild pitch

  36. #84@Masticore317: He should have just used a position player instead of Volquez. It’s just one game.

  37. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  38. #87@Nick G: OR A FREAKING HOMER!!!!! HOLY CRAP

  39. #88@Kevin: No doubt!!!

A-GONE! Hell yeah! That’s exactly what this team needed!!!

  41. Nice fly by Gonzalez.

  42. one for every inning.

It was awesome to see the fans behind the plate jump to their feet as AGon hit it.

  43. Gamecast showed the pitch was down by his shoes – was it that low???

  44. AWESOME WIN PADRES!!!

  45. #95@Masticore317: It was pretty low…. don’t know if it was THAT low.

  46. PUT ME TO BED YOU ORANGE SOB!

  47. Josh Banks gets a well-deserved first MLB victory – 6 IP, no unintentional walks, 4Ks, 5 hits.

    Finally, a walk-off victory.

  48. That’s a wonderful way to end a long day. Will it have long term effects? Maybe, maybe not. But it sure feels a lot better than losing :D
