Prediction: There are gonna win sometime. Today might be the day. Wish I was down there, looks like a beautiful day for it.
Go Padres!
Today’s the day we turn things around…
Very nice day for baseball. Nice day for a win.
Must be difficult for Matty to be neutral commentating on national broadcasts.
The Pads have enough cans of corn to stock a bomb shelter.
Nice pop Gonzo.
How do we get that avatar thingy to show up. Went to the site and have one, but it don’t show up.
#5 Turbine Dude,
Its the high strikeout/low walk ratio that sticks in my craw.
It’s having a cleanup guy with a slugging percentage below .300
#7@PM: I had the same problem initially. Click around on that website. There was something that asks if you want to update it or something like that. I can’t remember. But eventually it will show up.
#8@parlo: It’s the fly-outs that stick in my craw.
I hate MLB. I live in Temecula and can’t get this game. I pay for Extra Innings and MLB.TV and I STILL don’t get the game. Poppycock.
#7@PM: Once you are logged on, go to the top of the page and click on Manage. From there you should be able to do what you gotta do.
I just hope Colt doesn’t hit into a dbl play.
Justin’s up, innings over…
#15@Turbine Dude: I stand corrected…thankfully!
Wait… did we just score.?
Oh Justin Germano drove the run in no wonder. I knew a regular hitter couldn’t have been responsible for an RBI.
PMac!!!!!!!!!
That’s how they should be hitting with bases loaded. Location, location, location.
Free P-Mac!
5.5 for Gonzo!!!!!!!!
Thank God for elbow pads.
Holy crap talk about a 2 out rally.
#17@KRS1: Keep being negative… its working haha
Mark Grace isnt as annoying today.
Young got all of that and more. Damn.
#24@SDSUBaseball: Ha. I was just coming here to complain about having to listen to him during a home game for the Padres. I had to mute the broadcast.
Just sat down to watch on MLB.com…Sure, the pads are on Fox, but not in VA. We got the Yanks and indians…fun enough game, but I want to watch my Padres.
But I can’t. National blackout.
Why do I pay $100 per year? The day that the game won’t keep me up until 1 in the morning and I can’t watch. Stupid MLB.com.
They need to get their frigg’n product better.
#26@Ben B.: Well he isnt as annoying because he has to try to be a non-partial announcer.
Nice DP.
#27@Coronado Mike: I hear ya, but its really not their fault. Fox has the exclusive rights to the games there isnt much they can do about it. I dont know if its blocked out for MLB extra innings too. If the seldom fox broadcast of the Padres makes you that upset, maybe you should look into the extra innings package and see if they black out these games. I turned on fox to the Angels as well. I’d rather watch the draft than the Angels.
#23@SDSUBaseball:
Oh I was just being honest. You must have mistaken that for negativity.
#31@KRS1: It was a joke, relax. Regulars were responsible for the next 3 RBIs.
Nice 6-3 play.
#32@SDSUBaseball:
Yeah I was kinda joking as well but I wouldn’t consider P-Mac a real regular. I think he deserves more AB’s!
#30@SDSUBaseball: They need to make a better contract. I buy MLB.com so I can watch the Pads and since the Fox in VA is not showing the Pads game here, I think they need to make it available to me.
It is just another thing that MLB marketing messes up…I think. Although, the only guys that would complain about it are the ones who are baseball fans…real ones that won’t stop frequenting the product just because it is marketed badly.
Sometimes being a baseball fan sucks.
Here’s a way to chime in on a group-think look at the question of “Is Trevor Done?” …
http://www.predictify.com/auctionview.aspx?ID=3873
The question for the group is this: What will be the ratio of the number of Saves + Wins that Trevor Hoffman, pitcher for the San Diego Padres, gets credited with versus the number of Blown Saves + Losses that Trevor Hoffman gets credited with, during the month of May, 2008?
You have until the end of April to weigh in … so far, 19 folks have predicted … and the distribution of preditions so far is pretty mixed.
We’ll see if this helps us learn anything …
#36@LynchMob: I think Trevor has had a helluva career and should retire gracefully and replace Mark Grant in the booth. In a couple of years he’d be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
#34@KRS1: Ya, why not he cant do much worse than anyone else. I am just happy they actually strung hits together.
#35@Coronado Mike: I really dont think its marketed badly. They never market that you can watch EVERY out of market game. I have it too. When you purchase it, they tell you the blackout restrictions there are really no surprises. I am not enjoying that I cant watch it on MLB.tv but I understand it. I have been 100% satisfied with MLB.tv this year. It have been 10 time better than years past.
OG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#37@Turbine Dude: I wouldnt mind Trevor in the booth, but If he retires I think he would had to get away from traveling and start spending the time with his family.
I think it would be cool to hang on to Trevor or Maddux and keep them on staff as a pitching coach or something of some sort.
NIIIICE B-Giles!
#40@SDSUBaseball: Those two definately need to stay with the club in some capacity. Whether it be coaching or in the media.
I understand and don’t disagree with you (except for the 100% thing) SDSU, I just think it could be better…Would not be hard to have the game available to those of us who CAN’T watch it.
#39@Turbine Dude: How well did OG hit the bomb?
#42@Turbine Dude: However, Mad Dog will probably go into the Hall as a Brave.
Yes, it sucks that we can’t watch “national” broadcast games. But hey, at least the Padres only get like 2 of those a year, right? Maybe there is a silver lining to being a small market team that is largely ignored…
Mostly, I’m bummed that I can’t watch the one game that the Padres have had a decent lead in in a while.
#35@Coronado Mike:
Try being an ardent fan of an Olympic sport that nobody cares about during non-Olympic years.
#43@Coronado Mike: Dude, he crushed it! Pitch was in on him and he just let it fly to right.
For those not able to watch, I’ll give as much info as possible.
Runner advanced to 2nd after Morton dropped a bad curve ball pitch.
Ball gets away from Morton again and runner goes to 3rd..
#43@Coronado Mike: No it wouldnt be hard, but I am sure it is Fox that refuses to give it up. MLB.tv would broadcast it if they could.
OG crushed it… If you go on MLB gameday you can watch video alerts. They normally do it for every run scoring play its kind of cool and they put them up fairly quick.
#44@Turbine Dude: Oh ya, a Brave almost for sure, maybe a Cub.
46: Thats 4 HRs he has off Owings now.
#49@SDSUBaseball: More than likely a Brave.
Why is Germano pitching around Eric Byrnes? It brings the tying run to the plate, and Byrnes is a worse hitter against righties than Hudson.
Great… 2 run triple makes it 5-4 Padres.
Edmonds is to slow to play Center. He can’t run fast enough to get those anymore.
#54@Turbine Dude: Was it a misplay?
#54@Turbine Dude: Rick … you get my vote for “best gravitar” … well done, Dude!
#55@SDSUBaseball: No, he was just slow getting to a ball that any 25 yr. old would have caught.
#56@LynchMob: LM, why do you say that?
#57@Turbine Dude: Oh video kinda looked like he took the wrong route to the ball. Video i kinda small though.
Thatcher is up in the Pen.
That walk was low and outside…Pitching change to Thatcher.
An offensive upgrade! Our center fielder now has a 591 OPS instead of 514. We can’t lose now.
I have a feeling this is going to be a bad inning.
One of the few times you dont i-BB to get to the pitcher.
For a pitching coach, Bud doesnt manage the bullpen very well. He insists on relievers finishing innings.
#64@SDSUBaseball: And it didn’t work. I hope Owings is ok. I hate seeing players get injured.
#66@Turbine Dude: Kind of worked, could had been a 3 run double I guess.
Alright Guch!
I believe I have seen this movie before
Guch with a stolen base…go figure.
I wish Mark Grace would just STFU.
Morton should have sac’d him to third…
Why bunt Hairston??
It worked. But, I mean Scotty is one of our better hitters. Let’s hope OG can cash in on this.
PMac on deck and bases loaded now.
Lightning can strike twice, right?
#76@Sean Callahan: I’m hoping, Sean.
Yes!!!! Gonzo with a 2 RBI knock!!!!
A runner scored from second! A runner scored from second! A runner scored from second!!!!
According to GameDay, PMac got hosed on the second strike. Not even terribly close.
OK – the bullpen has already done it’s damage for the game. From here on out, it’s lights out. Right?
Man, Welke must have great eyes – balls that can’t be more then an inch a part are sometimes called balls and sometimes called strikes…
Or not…. Two blown saves so far this game…
#81@Sean Callahan: No. Cla is on the mound and everybody has his number. A side arm pitcher can only throw basically two pitches. Cla is going to f*ck this up I guarantee. We’ll lose because of this.
Matty sporting a tie for the national broadcast. Wow.
Merrideth got lucky with that 6-3.
Qualls in the pen for AZ.
Bell is looking like typical Bell. Sharp.
It’s tied, but at least it’s not tied 0-0. That’s an improvement.
OG almost went yard.
The bane of this game was putting Cla Merrideth in. Side arms are good for H.S. and college. But, they have no place in the bigs.
Do I dare watch?
Micah Owings has a right ankle sprain.
PMac doing it the nasty way!!!!
Don’t let him steal second….
Alright, PMac – defensive highlight in the top-half, walk-off highlight in the bottom half….
I’m starting to really hate extra innings.
So we’re going extras?
#96@Turbine Dude: Just think of it as free baseball…
So who pitches, Cameron? And I’m assuming with Hoffman due up next it’d be Huber in a double switch either for PMac or Adrian?
please score here… i always feel lucky when rusch pitches a scoreless inning. I don’t think he can make it two in a row.
Well Bob Melvin is trying to help us score by bringing in the lefty to face a whole bunch of righties.
A walk off homer would suit me just fine.
What’s the over/under on the number of innings this one goes? 12/15/17?
We have to win now – KG walked…
Hopefully the Gooch gets on and maybe Morton runs into one.
#101@Ben B.: “Tactical” never seemed to be one of Melvin’s strong points…
Morton seems to have been getting the short end of the stick on the strike zone in late inning situations recently… Maybe it’s finally his turn.
We’re going to 11. Dammit, I’m out of beer.
The Padres will have none of Melvin’s generosity, on to the 11th.
Walking a career AL-pitcher as a pinch hitter in extra innings….
Sigh.
Wow, what abysmally bad managing by Melvin. He just burned his only lefty to pitch to four righties, while the two lefties are going to hit next inning. And he has plenty of options still left in the pen, too.
What abysmally bad pitching by Rusch to walk the pitcher.
How in the world did Rusch walk Haren???
#110@Sean Callahan: Oops – didn’t know he originally came up with the Cardinals. Still inexcusable.
#111@Ben B.: Remember, these are the left-handed batters on the Padres
Why is Rusch batting??? WTF?
Which will end first….the Padres game or the 2nd round of the NFL draft?
#114@Sean Callahan: True, but these are the only guys on the team that have been hitting. OG and Adrian both have OPS+ over 100!!!!!!
I guess we have to be careful with only Cameron left. I’m assuming Ledezma isn’t available after yesterday.
Adrian, Kouz and Huber. Time to score.
#117@Ben B.: Fair point…
However, unless Agon goes yard now, Melvin will look like a genius.
At least Bard isn’t catching 12+ innings today
Sheesh, that was a quick inning…
Huber’s hitting the ball well. He should work on yanking it down the line or something instead of dead center, though.
The Padres have scored 1 run in 22 extra innnings this year. And that’s off pitchers who are usually the back of bullpen guys going extended innings
Is it still top of 13? Gamecast is so slow I think…
I have to go buy a keg for my keg-orator. Gonna listen on the radio as my wife drives. Later guys.
Let me know when you get the keg hooked up and I’ll be right over to help drink it. I’m sure we’ll all still be here when you get back..
The longer this game goes I think it’s advantage D’backs…
GOOOCCHHHHHH!!!!
Holy Sh&^ Did that really just happen?
The Gooch!!!
Boom goes the dynamite!
It’s about time one of these close ones falls our way. We were due for sure.
#126@Turbine Dude: Can you do that earlier the next time?
wow
i just assumed byrnes would catch that
do you think it was hard for matt v to not yell santa maria?
Way to go, Ta-Da-Hi-To!!!
Made sitting through 14 innings with no TV feed here in Temecula worth it!
That was a rough outing for Germano, but the bullpen did a fine job and the 8 runs were pretty nice, too.
#90@Turbine Dude:
Sidearmers, with career ERA+:
Dan Quisenberry (146)
Kent Tekulvey (132)
Jeff Nelson (132)
Dennis Eckersley (116)
Scott Sullivan (113)
None of them were one or two or even three season wonders. They all had solid careers. Cla will almost certainly never repeat his 2006, but he still gave us a 115 ERA+ last year.
I don’t see why a sidearmer would be limited to 2 pitches. There’s 3 just with varying grips: 2 seam FB, 4 seam FB, change. They can still snap their wrist, so a slider and even a screwball seem possible. Not much point to a curve because you’re not getting the vertical break along with the sideways.
Perhaps tonight, I will sleep.
Avatar test
#138@Tom Waits: Those would be submariners, not sidearmers.
#141@Kevin: Cla is a submariner.
#141@Kevin: I know. Comment 138 says sidearmers.
#143@Kevin: Sidearm is the term Turbine Dude used. Tekulve and Quisenberry came from down under, but Nelson, Sullivan, and Eck were not knuckle-draggers.
So far, outside of Wil Venable, our top talent at the AAA has been a disappointment. Like last year, the Beavers are outmatched against top talents of other organizations.
#145@JP: Good thing the season lasts more than a month.
