The Minnesota Twins and San Diego Padres are tied for the big-league lead with 17 wins in September. The Twins have lost 8 games this month, while the Pads have lost 7.

Only the Toronto Blue Jays (2.66) have a better ERA than the Padres (2.80) in September. Opponents are hitting just .236/.298/.373 against Padres pitching. The club has outscored its opposition, 114-77, this month.

Tonight’s starter, Chris Young, has the second highest ERA (2.92) among Padres starters in September and he almost tossed a no-no last week. If ever there were a time to use the tired cliche “firing on all cylinders,” now would be it.

Go Padres!

  2. Phils have scored in the first at Washington on a triple by Utley.

  3. Padres.com notes that CY is two road starts short of the major league record of most consecutive road victories without a loss. First Cla, then CY’s near no-hitter, Trevor’s record, close to most wins in September. The hits just keep on coming.

  4. Geoff, you have this game listed as being on TV…Not here. Is it on Cox cable?

  5. Washington just tied the Phils on a HR by Zimmerman…2nd inning.

  6. I got my info from Padres.com. Channel 4SD also has it on their schedule. I think because it’s a road game, they’re not on the air till just before first pitch.

  7. Washington takes the lead against Philli with an RBI double in the 2nd inning…off of Cole Hammels.

  8. Geoff…sorry for the mixup…I thought the game started at 4pm..

I am a moron. Sometimes I amaze myself at how silly I really am.

  9. In your defense, it does start at 4 p.m. somewhere. ;-)

  10. Doumit homers in Pittsburgh. Pirates up 2-0 over Houston after 2.

  11. Phills are now down 4-1 in the 3rd inning…

  12. Another good move. The non-signing of Pedro Astacio

  13. Listening to the Cardinals’ feed. Their announcers had nice things to say about Adrian Gonzalez while reading tonight’s lineups. Always nice to hear from an outsider.

  14. As much as everyone likes to bash Giles for having a down year, the lineup feels a whole lot more bare without him in there.

  15. Anyone watching? St. Louis broadcasters thought Roberts was out. How close was it?

  16. Now they’re complimenting Trevor for being a class act. I kinda like these guys.

  17. A 10 pitch inning with 2 Ks is not that easy to do.

  18. Pedro was POUNDED tonight … http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=260927115 … I kinda like that!

  19. was that bad baserunning by Branyan last inning – didn’t see the play?

  20. Thru 2 full …

    Pitches-strikes – C Young 26-20; An Reyes 43-25.

    Ground balls-fly balls – C Young 1-1; An Reyes 1-3.

    Batters faced – C Young 6; An Reyes 10.

    … I like CY’s “Batters faced” stat :-)

  21. #21: Cards’ radio guys say it was. They’re also complaining about the strike zone, which I believe given the inconsistency we’ve seen this entire series.

  22. Thanks Geoff…do you not have TV in SD tonight? I’ve got the mlb.tv going, but have work to do too so can’t pay full attention.

  23. Thank you, Yadier Molina. You can pick up your check on the way out.

  24. Thru 3 full …

    Pitches-strikes – C Young 38-28; An Reyes 59-35.

    Ground balls-fly balls – C Young 3-1; An Reyes 3-3.

    Batters faced – C Young 9; An Reyes 14.

    … still likin’ CY’s Bf stat …

  25. Dogs up 1-0 early …

  26. Sledgehammer has not looked like his nickname in 2 AB’s so far.

  27. Clayton, there’s TV in SD tonight, just not where I am at the moment.

  28. thats very sad geoff!

  29. Ok..i have a question…it’s 8:20 in St. Louis..why does that dork Tony LaRussa have on sunglasses?

  30. Time for CY to bear down … 1st & 3rd … 2 out … Rolen up …

  31. … didn’t happen … 1-1 …

  32. Thru 4 …

    Pitches-strikes – C Young 58-39; An Reyes 73-43.

    Ground balls-fly balls – C Young 4-3; An Reyes 4-5.

    Batters faced – C Young 15; An Reyes 18

… that was a rough inning, obviously …

  33. Lance Berkman’s earning a paycheck also … http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=260927123 … what a monster season he’s having!

  34. Colorado has runners at second and third, nobody out in the fourth. Helton is up.

  35. Sledge looking REALLY bad

  36. Helton singled…tie game..1-1

  37. Helton singles home a run to tie that game. Back here, Sledge gets the natural hat trick. :-(

  38. Piazza’s not going to be getting much to hit

  39. Hawpe DP puts the Rox up, 2-1.

  40. that’s got to be the 3rd or 4th we’ve hit on the nose but right at someone, or had it hang up too long

  41. Whole lotta nothing. At least Reyes is up to 85 pitches through 5 innings. We can take their bullpen.

  42. Dodgers coming right back…2 on nobody out….whoops…hit into double play…2 out..runner on 3rd.. top 5… 2-1 Rox..

  43. 4-1 Rockies…

  44. Thru 5..Derek Lowe…10 hits..4 earned runs…

  45. Nice easy 6th inning for CY there…

and no i’m not getting a complex since I’m talking to myself…

  46. we’re all just in your imagination anyway

  47. Love Aaron Cook going for the Rockies. Just the guy to hold the Dodgers until Fuentes comes on. Looking good.
