  1. I don’t see any hands going up …

  2. LOL. Yeah, I don’t think so. Gotta like Woody taking matters into his own hands there.

  3. Ya, I like Woody with the stick :-)

    Thru 3.5 innings …

    Pitches-strikes – C Hamels 57-39; W Williams 60-41.

    Ground balls-fly balls – C Hamels 2-3; W Williams 1-7.

    Batters faced – C Hamels 13; W Williams 15.

  4. rotoworld.com posted this today …

Chris Young, already troubled by flu-like symptoms, was scheduled to have an MRI on his right foot Monday night.
A bone scan earlier in the day apparently was inconclusive. “There is some concern there, so we’re going to get an MRI to see exactly what’s going on,” manager Bruce Bochy said, adding that Young’s scheduled start Wednesday against the Phillies is in question. “The concern is that if it is stress fracture, that would mean he could miss a couple starts and could be put on the DL.” Jul. 17 – 10:53 pm et

    … hmmm, that’s *not* good :-(

  5. And now their throwin’ at Woody???

    Thru 4.5 innings …

    Pitches-strikes – C Hamels 70-46; W Williams 75-52.

    Ground balls-fly balls – C Hamels 2-5; W Williams 2-9.

    Batters faced – C Hamels 16; W Williams 19.

  6. A bit of perspective … the Indians have Ramon Vasquez playing 3B tonight … http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6815 … yikes!

  7. Wow, doesn’t it seem like while since Giles has delivered on an opportunity … bottom of 5th ended with Giles stranding runners on 1st & 3rd …

    - J. Barfield singled to left
    - W. Williams fouled out to third
    - J. Barfield stole second, J. Barfield to third on M. Lieberthal’s throwing error
    - E. Young struck out swinging
    - M. Cameron walked
    - B. Giles grounded out to third

  8. Adrian goes oppo. Very nice!

  9. Oh man. I just saw it coming. After Utley scored, I absolutely just watched it all go down exactly as I believed it would. This Howard kid is absolutely tremendous – just a joy to watch. He’s the Ortiz of the N.L. Unfortunately, we have to face him two more games.

  10. I’m still thinkin’ KC’s Teahan (a Moneyball-boy) should be available cheap (since KC’s top prospect is a 3B-man) … http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=260717102 … warning: this box score contains a game-tieing-3-run-HR by Doug Mirabelli :-)

  11. It’s Bard-time! So far, that’s been a good time!

  12. Memo to Bochy: Now would be a good time to have Roberts hit for EY.

  13. PLEASE, send up a PH’er for Eric Young!!! PLEASE!

  14. You beat me to it GY. There is no reason for DR to be on the bench against this guy.

  15. That just seems inexcusible … sigh …

  16. Man, that is a perfect example of why Bochy infuriates me. Bases loaded, game in the balance and you have your 0-3, barely hitting .200 “leadoff” guy up with a better LH option on the bench. The situation screams pinch hit, but yet Bochy can’t remove his starter.

  17. What’s more inexcusible …

    – letting EY bat in that situation (down 1 run, bases loaded, 2 outs)
    – having EY in the leadoff spot to begin with
    – having EY on the roster

… there’s *lots* o’ blame to go around!

  18. *Bochy voice* Oh well we’ll get ‘em next time. *sigh*

  19. Sorry for the rants, but one last one, nice play Vinny!

  20. And EY still can’t play LF. Sigh.

  21. You just about covered it LM. EY is another example of the great conversation from a couple season ago on the old Fanstop board about Bochy-proofing the roster. I type this as EY blows a play in left. Nice. I bet the DR doesn’t mess that one up.

  22. Give Bochy a guy like EY and he will play way too much. Maybe EY’s performance tonight will get him run off the team when BJ gets healthy.

  23. You’re down by one, with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and the bases loaded…
A guy with a .227 EQA is coming up to bat…
On the bench you have guys with EQAs of .250, .227, .322, and .286.
Do you, a) pinch hit for Mr. .227 or b) pull a Bochy?
Note that the .286 on the bench plays the same position as your current hitter and is far superior in the field.
Also, the .286 is left handed (the reliever and your current hitter are right handed).

  24. Richard welcome to the Bochy-bashing party.

  25. Bruch … Richard *invented* Bochy bashing … http://sdpf.blogspot.com/2006/06/fire-bruce-bochy-2.html :-)

  26. Bruce … oops, sorry about the Bruch-off :-(

  27. LM, I should have said another Bochy-bashing party. I have had a few IGD with Richard in the past about Bochy.

  28. Some good news … Padre farmhand Wade LeBlanc is in BA’s PHS “Team Photo” this week … http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/hotsheet/261968.html

  29. Here we go …

    - M. Cameron walked
    - B. Giles singled to center, M. Cameron to third

    … don your RALLY CAPS!!!

  30. I recognize his improvement, I really do, but the vast majority of the time KG looks completely clueless at the plate. There he looked like me playing Triple Play on the X-Box: swing at everything no matter where the pitch is located.

  31. Anyone watching on TV … is Vinny in the on-deck circle? At least EY can’t PH for him …

  32. Yo Adrian!

  33. Tough matchup for AG right here…hopefully he can come through..

  34. Geez, Adrian is out of control. Puts one into the porch against Cormier. Two homers off lefties tonight. He’s up to 18 on the season.

  35. Ok…guess it wasn’t that tough for him and apparently he can come through.. :-) God I hate not being able to see the games all the time..

  36. - A. Gonzalez homered to deep right, R. Bowen and B. Giles scored

    BOOYA!!!

  37. And that’s as far as Vinny can hit a ball these days.

  38. I’m going to start calling him Hezbollah because Adrian is launching rockets all over the place.

  39. Terrific play by Khalil to nab Victorino at first.

  40. Let’s just go with “Hez” :-)

  41. Ah, see, the wisom of Bochy … he’s still got DR to PH now for Linebrink’s spot!

  42. eh, it was hard to write “wisdom” and “Bochy” in the same sentence … what can i say …

  43. See? EY isn’t completely useless.

  44. That’s one way to keep EY from going 0-for-5 …

  45. Let’s get an insurance run or two Giles.

  46. Nice the Phils throwing the ball all over the place.

  47. That was a goofy play. We’ll take it.

  48. Since June 16, Adrian is hitting .306/.324/.620. Prior to that date, he was hitting .269/.318/.439.

I’m not saying it’s Merv, just pointing out the interesting numbers.

  49. Well, that answers my previous question …

    - B. Giles singled to center, D. Roberts scored, M. Cameron to third, B. Giles to second on center fielder A. Rowand’s throwing error

  50. Has Rob Bowen’s clock struck midnight and he’s turned back into a pumpkin?
