Setting aside that the Padres brought in some top tier talent two days ago, I can’t help but wonder if this system of bringing in foreign players is good for baseball. Conventional wisdom would suggest that huge market teams will continue to dominate in Latin America and elsewhere, as teams like the Yankees and Mets traditionally have. We don’t auction off our amateur ballplayers in North America (including Mexico?), so why do we do it everywhere else?
San Diego catcher Michael Barrett will require surgery for facial fractures and may be out six weeks.
The Padres placed Barrett on the 15-day disabled list on Friday and purchased the contract of catcher Nick Hundley from Triple-A Portland. The 24-year-old Hundley was scheduled to make his major league debut on Friday night at Arizona.
The team leader in wins is Heath Bell with six.

#5@Johnny Utah: thats hilarious.
and did you by chance go to LCC, cuz if so, small world.
Oh well. There goes the no-no…
the headley-hundley connection!
Beak!
Way for Headley to preserve the shutout.
Colorado and Florida are playing an old-school Coors Field game: 17-16 in the top the 8th.
Can the bullpen hold a two-run lead for three innings?
Should they think about taking Baek out now?
Baek out, Bell in.
My mistake: It was Adams who gave up the run. Baek pitched six innings of shutout ball on 94 pitches.
#13@Kevin: It was Adams that was in – Harriston hit for Baek in the top of the seventh.
Bell’s going to need to get five outs tonight
Great stuff from Giles.
Cash in the gift card, Kouz….
Colorado wins 18-17 with two runs in the bottom of the ninth…
1.2 innings for Bell. Three Ks, two looking.
Last time a Padres starter got a win: June 12, Peavy.
3-4-5 (Hudson, Jackson and Bonifacio) in the bottom of the ninth for Trevor.
Let’s not make it interesting.
#20@Kevin: Of course, counting that game, the team has only four wins total since then. So maybe that stat is not that incredible.
Is Ch4 doing remote shots/interviews with soldiers like the Arizona channel is?
Back-to-back quality at-bats by the Padres – who are those guys?
PMac’s first hit since 11 June, first RBI since 8 June.
Padres win! Padres win! Padres win!
Huber played some 3B tonight in the Portland game. Strange.
