Highlight of Friday’s game? Watching Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson run around an empty stadium while filming some movie. That Wilson sure can shake it…
Picking up where last year's version left off, the Ducksnorts 2008 Baseball Annual provides in-depth analysis of and commentary on the San Diego Padres. Get your copy today.

I wonder what percentage of Padre fans thought Adrian would hit into a double play there? 25%? 50%? Or were most people like me, knowing it was coming?
May 3, 2008 at 4:32 pm
$%^%
May 3, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Yep, that was a huge potential inning if Agon recognizes that he can’t do anything with that pitch. Easier said than done, I know, but his plate discipline has definitely not improved.
May 3, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Nice to see that Owen Wilson is not trying to kill himself any longer. I guess he has just left that for us Padre fans. Mike Jacob, Chula Vista native, sharing in a good ass spanking of the Padres. Hell, everyone else has….
May 3, 2008 at 4:37 pm
2 run shot by Mike Jacobs followed by a walk to Jorge Cantu. Not good a good start. Can the Padre offense get 2 runs against Ricky Nolasco?
May 3, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Jake has a 28 pitch inning and Bard makes an out on the first pitch. ????
May 3, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Bogus
May 3, 2008 at 4:44 pm
About time someone hit one of those hanging curves. Nolasco has thrown about 5 of them so far and hadn’t been hurt yet (the worst was the one Greene took for strike three to end the first).
May 3, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Wow, we scored 3???
May 3, 2008 at 5:05 pm
Just got home nice to see we are at least up by a run instead of down. Wife and I were watching the Red Bull races from the flight deck of the Midway. Awsome!
May 3, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Jake with an opportunity to get 4Ks this inning … go, Jake!
May 3, 2008 at 5:18 pm
11 … Nope, after getting Uggla to 2 strikes, he flew out to CF for the 3rd out … following a Cantu K on a wild pitch that didn’t result in an out …
Thru 3 …
Pitches-strikes - J Peavy 69-41; R Nolasco 57-38.
Ground balls-fly balls - J Peavy 2-3; R Nolasco 5-3.
Batters faced - J Peavy 15; R Nolasco 16.
… not a good pitch count for #44 …
May 3, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Thrown out trying to advance to third on a pop fly. Why?
May 3, 2008 at 5:23 pm
Watching McAnulty run the bases there I’m going to have to say that he has no idea what he’s doing out there. I remember that a lot of us blamed the 3rd base coach when he was thrown out trying to stretch a 2B into a 3B with no outs (in that 22 inning game). Again, since you are in Little League they tell you to not make the 1st or 3rd out at 3B, no McAnulty has done both.
May 3, 2008 at 5:24 pm
#14@Schlom: now McAnulty has done both I meant. Seriously, is he even paying attention out there?
May 3, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Great hustle on a foul pop down the line in LF by McAnulty. Almost makes up for his blunder on the bases (but not quite).
May 3, 2008 at 5:30 pm
#15@Schlom: With the Padres struggeling like they are, the last thing they need is brain dead base running. Not only did he ruin an oppertunity to score, but he sent Jake back out there on short rest, following a tough inning.
May 3, 2008 at 5:35 pm
#17@Field39: If P-Mac was in the Kentucky Derby they would have put him down:
http://sports.espn.go.com/spor.....id=3380100
Seriously, you finish 2nd and they kill you right afterward? Maybe it’s like Voltaire said: Pour l’encouragement des autres.
May 3, 2008 at 5:36 pm
#14@Schlom: There wasn’t a question about the earlier incident, you can see Hoffman waving him to 3rd and any Padre who spoke of it said that’s what happened. I don’t understand him tagging on a foul.
May 3, 2008 at 5:37 pm
The Padres are going to have to take a page from Forest Gump, and place people out in the stands with signs: “Stop Paul Stop.”
May 3, 2008 at 5:43 pm
#19@Tom Waits: True, but after that display you have to wonder.
Thanks to Ramirez for keeping Khalil from hitting into the double play and they scored two runs on it as well. Maybe their luck is finally changing!
May 3, 2008 at 5:47 pm
#18@Schlom: Quoting Voltaire on the Ducksnorts blog! And in French! And a 3-run lead?! OMG, take me now, Jesus, take me now…
May 3, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Tough luck for Nolasco that inning. Granted he loaded the bases with only one out but he got the double play ball to get out of the inning but Ramirez botched the transfer from his glove to his hand. Considering that he’s one of the best offensive plyaers in baseball, I guess you could live with his defense — I’d certainly rather have him then Khalil at SS.
May 3, 2008 at 5:48 pm
First, Voltaire… now Shakespeare!
May 3, 2008 at 5:49 pm
#22@dprat: Well, it was about horse racing so it doesn’t really count. Seriously, you finish 2nd in the biggest horse race in the world (and the only female in the race) and your reward is that they put you down? That’s tough.
May 3, 2008 at 5:50 pm
I’d probably send Clark up now. Jake hasn’t looked too sharp and we have a 12 man staff.
May 3, 2008 at 5:51 pm
#25@Schlom: Hard to believe she ran second, since she was probably shredding her ankles with every stride.
May 3, 2008 at 5:56 pm
Nice inning by Jake, it looks like he can go six.
May 3, 2008 at 5:57 pm
#27@Tom Waits: No kidding. That was one tough animal. The jockey said he could feel her flinch at the first turn, not sure how much into the race but I assume it’s fairly early. When I get hurt running I usually just stop right away.
May 3, 2008 at 6:06 pm
#4@Eddy Gorilla: I’ve seen classier takes.
May 3, 2008 at 6:06 pm
#29@Schlom: Don’t get me wrong, I think every IGD should include at least one quote in French - a small contribution toward internationalizing baseball.
But as to the horse, there’s a lesson in there, repeated way too often at horse tracks every year, about the costs of single-minded breeding efforts… whether its horses, tomatoes, or… soylent green.
May 3, 2008 at 6:07 pm
I’m guessing some of you saw this:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....id=3378892
May 3, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Webb gave up four runs in six innings but improved to 7-0.
May 3, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Peavy is not too happy to leave the game and I think at the umpire for calling a ball on the fifth pitch of the AB (it looked pretty good).
May 3, 2008 at 6:14 pm
#31@dprat: You don’t really care about the breeding of the “ingredients” in soylent green, do you?
May 3, 2008 at 6:16 pm
I’m guessing everyone also knows the Padres have the worst record in baseball.
May 3, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Why is Edmonds running? He’s slower than PMac.
May 3, 2008 at 6:20 pm
#35@Schlom: When I stop by the grocery to pick up my soylent green, it better be guaranteed organic AND “free-range.” None of that Monsanto GM crap.
May 3, 2008 at 6:21 pm
#36@Kevin: No. I have had plenty of experience avoiding the standings, when they are playing this bad.
May 3, 2008 at 6:29 pm
In other news, Colorado has erased an early 6-0 Dodger lead, now 6-6 in the 4th. Gotta love mile-high baseball.
May 3, 2008 at 6:30 pm
#38@dprat: That’s why you should get your soylent green at Henry’s or Whole Foods rather then Ralphs or Vons. Sure it might be a little more expensive but you know it’s better for the environment.
May 3, 2008 at 6:33 pm
No way Edmonds could make that catch.
May 3, 2008 at 6:35 pm
#42@Turbine Dude: Neither can Amezaga
May 3, 2008 at 6:37 pm
The 2B umpire (Gerry Davis) was like P-Mac on that call — totally clueless. The funny thing about that play is that everyone except for the umpire knew that ball hit the ground.
May 3, 2008 at 6:43 pm
#43@Schlom: I’m anti Edmonds this season like I was anti-Silent L last season. I won’t be satisfied until he is gone and Hairston takes his place.
May 3, 2008 at 6:48 pm
Way to go Agone!
May 3, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Talk about a ducksnort! Can you charge two errors on that?
May 3, 2008 at 6:53 pm
#45@Turbine Dude: I can see that. He’s looked a little better today but I’d like to see him pull the ball a little more. That was a nice swing to line out to deep RF. With his plate discipline (and the fact that unfortunately he’s probably the best defender in CF on the team) if he could hit .250 he’d be valuable.
I’m holding out hope for him since he’s one of my favorite players — going back to the time he was with the Angels.
May 3, 2008 at 6:54 pm
A clean double.
May 3, 2008 at 6:56 pm
#49@Field39: Seriously?
May 3, 2008 at 6:57 pm
no
May 3, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Bases loaded. Here’s where we fall apart.
May 3, 2008 at 7:04 pm
anyone know what happened to KG?
May 3, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Four-Six-Three
I want that to be my address…
Way to go infield…ham and eggs.
May 3, 2008 at 7:08 pm
Finally, a win. Wooohooo. I still feel like Randy Quade in Major League 2 though.
May 3, 2008 at 7:08 pm
Oh, well. You can’t lose ‘em all.
May 3, 2008 at 7:10 pm
We win…so stoked.
Very curious what happened to KG.
And nice of us to throw up a seven spot on the day ESPN.com leads off with a story about their anemic offense.
Good night everyone.
May 3, 2008 at 7:14 pm
#57@Coronado Mike: He got something in his eye and scratched it.
May 3, 2008 at 7:51 pm
We won!!!! I’m about an hour late….
May 3, 2008 at 7:55 pm
#30@Kevin: Jeez, Kev, Sorry to offend your egg shell like ego. Hell, it looks like they escaped the ultimate ass spanking, i.e. scoreboard at end, this time. Edmonds looks like he is ready to ride the rascal around the square dance pit though.
May 3, 2008 at 8:12 pm
#60@Eddy Gorilla: Nothing quite as funny as suicide humor. We need more of that around here.
May 3, 2008 at 8:57 pm
#48@Schlom: No way is he the best defender in CF on the team.
May 3, 2008 at 9:14 pm
#62@SDSUBaseball: Whose better Callix Crabbe ?
May 3, 2008 at 9:16 pm
S.Estes hasn’t given up an earned run in 7 innings tonight against New Orleans
May 3, 2008 at 9:17 pm
#64@JP: With KT in attendance.
May 3, 2008 at 9:32 pm
#65@Field39: Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe we give Estes a start or two in May at the major league level so that we don’t lose him and then maybe we could trade him for a decent prospect in June or July.
May 3, 2008 at 9:39 pm
#66@JP: Assuming he doesn’t get knocked out of is first start.
May 3, 2008 at 11:05 pm
#60@Eddy Gorilla: How can an ego get offended?
May 4, 2008 at 9:22 am
#63@JP: Hairston. He has been fine. Edmonds has obviously lost it defensively. Crabbe… hahahaha
