Highlight of Friday’s game? Watching Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson run around an empty stadium while filming some movie. That Wilson sure can shake it…

I wonder what percentage of Padre fans thought Adrian would hit into a double play there? 25%? 50%? Or were most people like me, knowing it was coming?

Yep, that was a huge potential inning if Agon recognizes that he can’t do anything with that pitch. Easier said than done, I know, but his plate discipline has definitely not improved.

Nice to see that Owen Wilson is not trying to kill himself any longer. I guess he has just left that for us Padre fans. Mike Jacob, Chula Vista native, sharing in a good ass spanking of the Padres. Hell, everyone else has….

2 run shot by Mike Jacobs followed by a walk to Jorge Cantu. Not good a good start. Can the Padre offense get 2 runs against Ricky Nolasco?

About time someone hit one of those hanging curves. Nolasco has thrown about 5 of them so far and hadn’t been hurt yet (the worst was the one Greene took for strike three to end the first).

Just got home nice to see we are at least up by a run instead of down. Wife and I were watching the Red Bull races from the flight deck of the Midway. Awsome!

Jake with an opportunity to get 4Ks this inning … go, Jake!

  12. Posted May 3, 2008 at 5:18 pm | Permalink

11 … Nope, after getting Uggla to 2 strikes, he flew out to CF for the 3rd out … following a Cantu K on a wild pitch that didn’t result in an out …

    Thru 3 …

    Pitches-strikes – J Peavy 69-41; R Nolasco 57-38.

    Ground balls-fly balls – J Peavy 2-3; R Nolasco 5-3.

    Batters faced – J Peavy 15; R Nolasco 16.

    … not a good pitch count for #44 …

Thrown out trying to advance to third on a pop fly. Why?

Watching McAnulty run the bases there I’m going to have to say that he has no idea what he’s doing out there. I remember that a lot of us blamed the 3rd base coach when he was thrown out trying to stretch a 2B into a 3B with no outs (in that 22 inning game). Again, since you are in Little League they tell you to not make the 1st or 3rd out at 3B, no McAnulty has done both.

  15. Schlom
    Posted May 3, 2008 at 5:24 pm | Permalink

#14@Schlom: now McAnulty has done both I meant. Seriously, is he even paying attention out there?

Great hustle on a foul pop down the line in LF by McAnulty. Almost makes up for his blunder on the bases (but not quite).

#15@Schlom: With the Padres struggeling like they are, the last thing they need is brain dead base running. Not only did he ruin an oppertunity to score, but he sent Jake back out there on short rest, following a tough inning.

Seriously, you finish 2nd and they kill you right afterward? Maybe it’s like Voltaire said: Pour l’encouragement des autres.

#14@Schlom: There wasn’t a question about the earlier incident, you can see Hoffman waving him to 3rd and any Padre who spoke of it said that’s what happened. I don’t understand him tagging on a foul.

The Padres are going to have to take a page from Forest Gump, and place people out in the stands with signs: “Stop Paul Stop.”

#19@Tom Waits: True, but after that display you have to wonder.

Thanks to Ramirez for keeping Khalil from hitting into the double play and they scored two runs on it as well. Maybe their luck is finally changing!

  23. Schlom
    Posted May 3, 2008 at 5:47 pm | Permalink

Tough luck for Nolasco that inning. Granted he loaded the bases with only one out but he got the double play ball to get out of the inning but Ramirez botched the transfer from his glove to his hand. Considering that he’s one of the best offensive plyaers in baseball, I guess you could live with his defense — I’d certainly rather have him then Khalil at SS.

#29@Schlom: Don’t get me wrong, I think every IGD should include at least one quote in French – a small contribution toward internationalizing baseball.

But as to the horse, there’s a lesson in there, repeated way too often at horse tracks every year, about the costs of single-minded breeding efforts… whether its horses, tomatoes, or… soylent green.

#38@dprat: That’s why you should get your soylent green at Henry’s or Whole Foods rather then Ralphs or Vons. Sure it might be a little more expensive but you know it’s better for the environment.

#45@Turbine Dude: I can see that. He’s looked a little better today but I’d like to see him pull the ball a little more. That was a nice swing to line out to deep RF. With his plate discipline (and the fact that unfortunately he’s probably the best defender in CF on the team) if he could hit .250 he’d be valuable.

I’m holding out hope for him since he’s one of my favorite players — going back to the time he was with the Angels.
