Looks like Gerut is still tearing it up. I really liked Adam Bass when I saw him in ST. KT says in today’s UT that Hundley is liked to be called up soon.

Personally, I think we should give these guys another 15-20 games to turn it around. After that if we’re 15-20 games outta first place we should blow this roster up and bring up some rookies.

If they bring up Hundley I wonder if that means Barrett is not even close to being healthy? or if they are going to try and trade Bard?
Also in the article Peavy was pushing hard for the Pads to pick up lofton, I kind of have the same feeling with him as I do with Bonds he’s a nice player and would probably make the team a little better but he’s not the last piece of the puzzle and he would only be taking oportunities away from guys like Headley, P-Mac and Huber…

Nice to see Inman and Sogard are still playing well. I’m hoping that Sogard gets put on the fast track soon, he has the perfict skill set for Petco (if he can play 2B at the MLB level)

#6@JP: Can Lofton play CF anymore? No, not well. So he’s faster than McAnulty, plays better D in LF, but PMac is probably a better hitter.
The increased offense and defense in CF over Edmonds isn’t enough to push this team anywhere, and wouldn’t have been if Lofton had been here on Opening Day. I don’t mind signing him just to be slightly less helpless, but unless four other players start hitting and the bullpen solidifies, it’s almost entirely a cosmetic move.

If they play .500 for the month of May (its possible), then what do we do ? Lets say their record is 24-31, or 26-30. Have we steadied the ship, or is it still sinking ?

Lofton has been a good hitter most of his career, and has still been good recently (although below-average 2 of the last 4 years). But if he can’t play CF and he’s not an upgrade in LF, what’s the point?
That said, Edmonds can’t play CF anymore either, apparently. If there’s a chance of climbing back into the race, Lofton in CF makes some sense, because at least we’re getting something on offense. That’s where scouting has to come in, because I’m still not qualified to judge if Edmonds is done or simply slumping.
#19@parlo: In that case they probably stick with what they have through June, because an extra month of experience for the kids doesn’t mean much. Try to keep the tradeable veterans healthy and productive, move them in July. But the real question would be where 26-30 puts them in NL West. Unless Arizona has a sustained losing binge, I’d expect 26-30 to put us 10 games back. There’s no way we make a bold, go-for-it move then.
I like the narrow look personally. It’s easier to read IMO and I can put it next to Gameday on a wide screen monitor.
