IGD: Padres vs Rockies (21 Sep 07)

Game #153
time: 7:05 p.m. PT
tv: 4SD
sp: Jake Peavy (18-6, 2.39) vs Franklin Morales (2-2, 3.81)
pre: Padres.com, B-R.com

Big series this weekend against the Rockies. Yeah, you think?

The Padres have won seven in a row, while Colorado has taken its last five. With one more win in their final 10 games, the Rockies will have their first winning season since 2000. Folks make a fuss about what a surprise the Diamondbacks are this year, but at least you could it see it coming (if you were looking in the right places). What the Rockies have done is just amazing, and I think that Clint Hurdle deserves serious consideration for Manager of the Year (as do Bud Black and Bob Melvin).

Meanwhile, here are some fun splits. I love that the Padres don’t really give away any innings but completely dominate the ninth:

I’m not much a video sharing guy – I don’t spend much time on YouTube… Anyway, Aaron Gleeman has two SUPER-FUNNY clips on his site today. One involves OJ in a way that is just blessedly apropriate and other is mean/funny and takes place in Yankee Stadium.

Tonight I told my wife (she’s Fillipina) that Jake was probably going to win the Cy Young award this year. She said that in Tagalog that means ‘that’s a pitty.’ So, if you say Cy Young as one word that’s the translation. Which I thought was aprapro for the batters that have had to face him.
She laughed when I told her that Cy Young was a person and what the award ment. Then she appologized.

Hell. Nothing like swinging at a first-pitch ball when the pitcher has walked two in the inning. Thanks, Mike.

Hey Rick, yeah, I usually help put my boys to bed, so I’m watching the game TIVO-delayed… I was going to do that tonight, but I just had to check the score… I’ve been watching ever since.

    Dang!

Padre pitching has done an OUTSTANDING job tonight keeping the hottest lineup in the NL to one run over 13 innings. We need this win bad – the bully has given their all for this game…

    Great inning by Thatcher.

    Herges, eh?

This is not good. Bats gotta get it going in the bottom.

Does Morton get his 1st MLB AB when the pitcher spot comes up?

I think all we have is Morton and Mackowiak on the bench and Mack is hurting.

I go play rugby with the boy and the dog for 30 minutes and, not only haven’t we won yet, we’re losing now!

Oh, well. Khalil can work a walk and Kouz can win it, right?

Tulo’s got a cannon, but I don’t get why he holds the ball then has to show it off… That could bite him at some point

Not exactly a first AB to be proud of for Morton (he was given 2 hanging breakers to smash) but it was fun to see him finally get an AB.
