Our hearts were ringing
In the key that our souls were singing.
As we danced in the night,
Remember how the stars stole the night away.
Not exactly a battle cry, but it will do. I’ll be out at Petco Park tonight, so you’re on your own for this one. Padres are a game back with 24 remaining. Give me that any year.
Meredith has the Padres rookie record for scoreless innings now.
So, we’re calling him the Claw Hammer?

Lake Elsinore won the 1st game of their playoff series w/ High Desert (KC, I think) and Fort Wayne lost theirs…
Cust on deck!
Peter, rare form? This is only what my 65th comment of the night?
Way to hit Walker!
McAnulty. Spiff.
not “rare” b/c of the count, but the fire directed at Blum & Boch…
P-MAC!!!
I wonder if Pad Girl wants to have P-Mac’s baby now?
P-McNulty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell of a time for a first career home run.
You know she does, Peter. You know she does.
I don’t know about Pad Girl but I think I need an EPT.
Man, it sucks to be the Rox right now. Two in a row!
Make that Paul McAnulty, I want to get his name right after a shot like that.
Awesome!
Ah yes, the “fire.” Low scoring games allow for more griping.
Pied in the face.
Destroyed another headset.
P Mac out for the year with a scratched cornea. That was a rough pie to the face
“They got me in my eye.” – P-Mac
McAnulty is a trooper – coming back for the interview after eating a shaving cream pie. Poor guy can’t see and he’s back on the mike.
McAnulty’s family are at the game – how cool is that? First big league HR (walkoff in extras, no less), first big league cream pie, in front of the family. Awesome.
Padres rookie sidearmer Cla Meredith (5-1) pitched 1 2-3 innings to extend his scoreless innings streak to 29 — over 25 appearances — and break the franchise record for a reliever. Mark Davis set the old mark of 27 2-3 innings in 1988. The overall franchise record is 30 innings by Randy Jones in 1980.
What an incredible game. Glad that Geoff was there to witness it. I’m sure he’ll have lots to talk about. Who got McAnulty with the pie, did anyone see? And where is LynchMob? Doesn’t he always talk about McAnulty?
I’m jumping up and down in front of my TV screaming something along the lines of “Big Mac with Cheese!” when my ears started burning. Something told me to check what the reaction was to this momentous event on Ducksnorts.
Lo, and behold! Many posters are crying out that I will bear P-Mac’s child! Right now, I believe I am still in a state of shock at seeing my 2nd GW HR by a rookie in two nights to really respond.
Ask me in the morning when I take off my “sweep” goggles.
Anyone watching the game on extra innings see Geoff behind home plate?
LOL… @ Pads Girl, glad you made it
Just got back from the game. Padre fever — Catch it!
Spent most of the night complaining about Blum and his failure to get the run in from third. Don’t know if you saw it on tv, but he slammed his bat down and broke his bat. I was hoping he wouldn’t be able to come up again, but damn it, he had an extra.
All’s well. When PMac came up I was hoping he’d put an end to it with a base hit. Even better when he hit his first ever HR. Nice to see the young guys come through.
#59: Not really. When the count got to two strikes on Blum, I turned to my wife and said, “slider, down and in.” I can’t even be mad anymore; everyone knows it’s coming, and everyone knows that unless the pitcher hangs it, Blum will swing and miss.
#129: That wasn’t me (I was in Section 307), but I think they may have gotten a shot of me screaming while Trevor was on the mound.
Great win!
Trevor getting out of the 9th was an amazing performance. However, I could almost hear Boomer telling Trevor, “You know, Trevor, you don’t have to work so hard if you don’t let those first two guys get on base with nobody out.”
LaMar, I was at the game too…I was screaming for Cust in the seventh…figured they could insert Alexander at SS…great way for things to finish up!
Follow-up to #132: They did get a shot of me while Trevor was pitching. My ugly mug was on the late local news for a nanosecond.
The baseball gods were smiling on us. Hensley dueling Jennings. I love our win, but Jennings game has to be one of the best pitched games I have seen all year. We’ve had some good lines put up by us and against us, but he seemed to have every pitch working. But we hung in and won. Trevor’s high-wire act in the 9th was surreal. You don’t do that in 0-0 game and get away with it. Amazing.
Then P-Mac’s bomb. A long way to go, but given we were 7-10 against the Rox before this series, this was huge. Big series up in SF; I would love to get some wins back from the Giants. The only team in baseball I hate.
Now we just need to survive this 10 game road trip and we should be in great shape…
