I see red
And it hurts my head
Guess it must be something
That I read
The NL West is slowly slipping away, but the Padres maintain a half-game lead over Cincy and Philly in the wild card. Every series is a must-win. Spotting the Reds a game on Friday night means that the next two have to be ours.
Really.
Now let’s go out there and kick some buttocks.
Why the delay getting McAnulty up and on the bench?
Bradon Lyon with one of the more painful relief appearances I’ve ever seen … http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=260902220 … not that I’m sheding a tear, mind you.
Why did the pads only call up Cassidy, to cheap to pay for Cust and P mac to fly up?
I have to admit, despite being nervous and apprehensive about tonight’s game, this is a great sports day, 10 hours of college football and then a Peavy performance for the nightcap. But wait…because of college football, the game isn’t on EI I guess Gameday will have to do.
Hmm…everyone at the game? Well, anyone who’s out there watching on TV, does it look like Peavy has “the good stuff” tonight?
awfully quiet out there… can i hear some chatter?
hey, nick, howzit goin’.
josh go boom – nice to get out in front early
Great now, 2-0 Pads! And the Alma Mater is up 30-0 at the half!
Let’s keep the CFB chatter to a minimum, please
whose your mamma? alma mater, that is. sorry i can’t tell you about peavy, i’m not watching either, but no hits, 5 K, 31 pitches thru 3… i’m guessing he’s looking pretty decent.
Walker’s OBP + Piazza’s SLG means 1 more run for Padres!
Thru 3 full …
Pitches-strikes – K Lohse 51-37; J Peavy 31-21.
Ground balls-fly balls – K Lohse 5-4; J Peavy 4-0.
Batters faced – K Lohse 14; J Peavy 9.
Cal Poly, who’s currently taking it to D-II Ft. Lewis, 37-0.
And Mike Piazza says, “Not so fast, my friend,” with the double making it 3-0.
Sorry LM, I couldn’t help myself
Ah, NickW, that’s OK … prolly not gonna get to WOOF too much ’bout Cal Poly this year … so might as well make some hay whilest the sun is shinin’
BTW, didn’t somebody last night predict that? (the Dunn HR)
Game isn’t on here…but it’s nice to see us up 3-1..
Thru 4 …
Pitches-strikes – K Lohse 68-46; J Peavy 49-33.
Ground balls-fly balls – K Lohse 7-5; J Peavy 5-1.
Batters faced – K Lohse 18; J Peavy 13.
Dogs up 6-0 … bleh …
ps. Mustangs up 44-0 …
Thru 5 …
Pitches-strikes – K Lohse 80-54; J Peavy 59-40.
Ground balls-fly balls – K Lohse 8-6; J Peavy 7-1.
Batters faced – K Lohse 21; J Peavy 16.
I’m liking Peavy’s pitch count and ball-strike ratio!
i’m smelling a shot at a CG – and i bet jake is, too.
Thru 6 …
Pitches-strikes – K Lohse 99-63; J Peavy 68-47.
Ground balls-fly balls – K Lohse 8-7; J Peavy 8-2.
Batters faced – K Lohse 25; J Peavy 19.
… nice inning by Jake … 9 pitches … 7 for strikes!
A bit expensive there … no low-pitch-ABs …
- A. Dunn struck out swinging
- K. Griffey Jr. struck out swinging
- E. Encarnacion walked
- E. Encarnacion stole second
- S. Hatteberg struck out swinging
Thru 6.5 …
Pitches-strikes – K Lohse 99-63; J Peavy 90-58.
Ground balls-fly balls – K Lohse 8-7; J Peavy 8-2.
Batters faced – K Lohse 25; J Peavy 23.
Penny’s gettin’ ding’d in top of 6th … now 7-2 Dogs …
Hey, how ’bout a little 2 out RBI! Way to go, BG
And a 3 run double by Cory Sullivan, Rocks now back in it! 7-5
dprat … still smell CG? do you want CG? i guess what i’m asking is … what’s your pitch limit? i’m a pitch-limit-kind-of-guy … i want jake fresher for his next start … i’m confident in bully … i know ya gotta get their first, but i’m a believer in getting to the postseason as fresh/rested as possible …
MannyA sent in to play 3B … seems like a good move …
Manny starts the GIDP
i agree with ya’, LM. but jake is the kind who wants it; and Boch is the kind of manager that would let him try IF he gets thru 8 with less than 110, and there is no save possibility for #51.
Thru top of 8th …
Pitches-strikes – K Lohse 102-66; B Bray 8-5; G Majewski 4-2; J Peavy 101-68.
Ground balls-fly balls – K Lohse 9-7; B Bray 0-1; G Majewski 0-1; J Peavy 10-2.
Batters faced – K Lohse 27; B Bray 3; G Majewski 1; J Peavy 26.
It’s a final @ SLO … 44-0 … rah!
OTOH … it is nice to see the Reds burnin’ pen!
re: 30 … ya, the “want it” and “let him” attitudes both have pro’s & con’s, don’t they … they are short-sighted, all to often, me thinks …
bleh … Dogs get one back … now up 8-5 …
Time for Barfield to put a virtual-end to this game … bases loaded, nobody out!
Perhaps DR?
Complete game time.
DR says “Yes, I can get a 2-out hit”
7-1 now … Manny’s turn (after walk to BG) …
it’s a weird year with Coors a pitchers park and the Ravine now a masher’s heaven – dodgers up, 12-5.
Dogs get all 5 right back … now 12-5 … Affeldt has more problems than a hard-to-spell last name
What a game by Peavy! I didn’t get a chance to see much of it because I was working, but he really pitched a great game.
Final stats on Jake …

… yes, indeed, a sweet 9 innings of work!
Kevin – how did you see any of it? Others made it sound like it wasn’t on TV nor online???
Cincy’s bullpen threw 39 pitches … 4 guys … 1.2 IP …
what is going on.?
game over?
Latest sign that the apocalypse is nigh: Vinny Castilla PH’s for Todd Helton.
Ryguy … you “watching” via Yahoo? Something hung there … but they have posted recap already … http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap?gid=260902125
The AP story (link in #49) says …
Peavy has struggled this season due to shoulder tendinitis …
… and I’m not sure I’ve read much about an actual diagnosis and/or status. Sure doesn’t seem like a problem tonight … but it seems like it’s all the more reason to not push his pitch counts ver far beyond 100 … or even 90, if you ask me …
