first pitch: 4:05 p.m., PT
television: Channel 4SD
matchup: Mike Thompson (2-1, 3.50 ERA) vs Zach Duke (3-6, 4.27 ERA)
Useless but true: No NL batters struck out more times (33) in the month of May than Mike Cameron. I don’t care what he hits; I’ll take his defense any day of the week.
I dont think we really wanted to spend much for Teahan. He has not shown much at the major league level and he hasnt shown any power at the minor league level.
Can u say…Sean?
Holy crap! Castilla got a hit!
NG – don’t be so shocked … it’s something that will happen over 21% of the time! Really!
Roberts is go-ahead run here … you got your Rally-Cap on?
Vinny.. what are you doing?!!! your run matters but you can only take that base if there’s absolutely no chance they can get you… that attempt for home was totally unnecessary.
why send castilla there? His run was really unimportant?
Did Vinnie run on his own? Geeeesh
what happened?? GameDay is frozen . . .
Here’s how the 9th looked on paper …
Padres ninth. N.McLouth in as right fielder. J.Bautista in as center fielder. M.Gonzalez pitching. K.Greene doubled to left. Castilla singled to left, K.Greene to third. Barfield hit a sacrifice fly to center fielder J.Bautista, K.Greene scored. Bard pinch-hitting for Sikorski. Bard walked on a full count, Castilla to second. D.Roberts grounded into fielder’s choice, shortstop Ja.Wilson to second baseman J.Castillo, Castilla to third, D.Roberts to first, Bard out. Castilla was out advancing, first baseman Casey to catcher Paulino, Castilla out.
… so Vinny tried to score as the Bucs tried (and failed) to turn a DP on a Dave Roberts ground ball to SS … bleh!
I got that info from … http://www.baseballdirect.com/scoreboard/index.html
oohh . . . that’s not good. Bad move.
So, the consensus of those of you watching say that Castilla’s play in 1st inning should have been an error (and hence the 5-run there could/should be unearned) … and the Buc run in the 3rd was unearned (error on Belhorn at 1B) … ya, those 6 runs were instrumental in the final score … sigh.
LM.. with a castilla error: just 1 run would have been earned in the first.
- I don’t know why Castilla was going for home there, it spelled trouble cause the ball caromed off the back wall quickly. and he’s got to know he’s not the tying run so all he needs to do is wait for a clean base hit which still needs to come.
so Castilla should know better and/or he should be benched.. give Bellhorn a shot to win the 3B job, let Adrian Gonzalez play. and I’d also like tos ee bard get more starts after he gets one on Sunday.
Seth Etherton’s getting *POUNDED* for KC … giving up 3 HRs to guys with combined SLG of ~.700 even after the 3 HRs … ie. not somebody we need to fret about losing …
The Ft Wayne Wizards, the Padres Low-A club, scratch’d out a run vs Mark Prior and went on to hang an “L” on his record today

A Brian Boeringer sighting … his 2nd start (both good) for KC’s AAA Omaha team … http://tinyurl.com/lfvrg
According to the Padres website, Vinnie was running on his own and Bochy said that the risk just wasnt worth it. Heck we already knew that too…Didnt vinnie?
He had to get back the out he avoided by getting a hit.
