IGD: Padres @ Mariners (20 May 06)
Sat, May 20, 2006by Geoff Young
first pitch: 7:05 p.m., PT
television: Channel 4SD
matchup: Clay Hensley (2-2, 3.70 ERA) vs Gil Meche (3-2, 4.84 ERA)
previews: Padres.com | ESPN
The bitter rivalry that is being hailed as the “Toronto versus Colorado of the West” continues Saturday night, as two twentysomething right-handers do battle in Seattle. The Padres have allowed 11 unearned runs over their past 6 games after having allowed 3 over their previous 36, and Jim Brower is doing a wicked Dewon Brazelton impersonation. On the plus side, we’re a quarter of the way through the season and the Pads are only a half-game out of first place.

I saw this in the related post In-Game discussion on 20 May on the 10 reasons Padres-M’s is a rivalry
“Ten Reasons the Seattle/San Diego Rivalry Is Huge
1. Both have the I-5 running through town
2. Both are near the Pacific Ocean
3. Both are near the border of a very large country
4. Both start with the letter āSā
5. Eddie Vedder
6. Neither has an NHL team
7. Both are charter cities
8. Rich Aurilia, Jeff Cirillo, Ben Davis, Wiki Gonzalez, Dave Hansen, Kevin Jarvis, Ramon Vazquez
9. Old school: Al Martin, Marc Newfield, Scott Sanders, Ron Villone
10. Three words: Peoria Sports Complex”

Brazelton and Hudgins both had shutouts for their starts today but neither was involved in the decision. Sikorski gave up a walk off homer to spoil a 1-0 shut out in the bottom of the 9th.
Mobile still scoreless in the 6th

well boys, that was wayyyyy too easy for Meche..

why did Brazelton only go 4?
Also way to break out the alternate blues this time as oppose to the other stuff they use. We will see if it changes anything.

The offense is making Gil Meche look like Greg Maddux.

Good pitching on both sides. Hensley made Suzuki look pretty bad last inning. Unfortunately, Giles’ misplay in right led to a run. I miss the great defense from earlier in the month.

I don’t know. the Padre pitching hasn’t shown up the past two days. I don’t think there’s an excuse for hanging all these pitches up and getting hit around this pitcher’s park.

I am starting to wonder if that great defense was a mirage. It sure seems shoddy now. mite be the product of bochy mix and match trying for increased offense..
who knows? crap

increased offense? where’s that? i don’t think it made the trip plane trip from arizona

I said “TRYING” for increased offense. It certainly isnt working. The Mariners are out pitching, out defending and certainly out hitting us. Its not pretty..

finally picked up this off the beavers website:
“Starter Dewon Brazelton struck out six and gave up three hits over four scoreless innings before being taken out due to a predetermined pitch count in his first start with the Beavers.

Terrible rundown. Got the out, but both runners advanced.
