first pitch: 12:35 p.m., PT
television: Channel 4
matchup: Tim Redding (0-3, 6.59 ERA) vs Kirk Rueter (0-2, 7.20 ERA)
game previews: CBS SportsLine
A mid-day battle between two struggling starters. Could be some runs on the board in this one. Be nice to see the Pads take the series.
AB BA OBP SLG Redding vs current Giants 53 .226 .333 .283 Rueter vs current Padres 312 .279 .342 .426
Phil Nevin (.421/.522/.711, 38 AB) feasts on Rueter, as do the injured Khalil Greene (.429/.500/.786, 14 AB) and Monday night’s starter Woody Williams (.444/.400/.889, 9 AB). Ryan Klesko (.275/.345/.471, 51 AB) has had a fair amount of success; beyond that, nobody who’s faced Rueter more than 10 times and who has healthy has done much against him. Brian Giles (.121/.167/.121, 33 AB) has been brutal and probably should sit in favor of Xavier Nady (4-for-7, with two 2B).
In a small sample, Redding has had surprisingly good results against current Giants. But only Mike Matheny (.308/.412/.385, 13 AB) and Moises Alou (.188/.222/.250, 16 AB) have batted more than 10 times against him, so it’s hard to draw conclusions here.
Could you please record Lyric’s Born singing the National Anthem at this game? I’d appreciate it if you could post it in any format.
Just wanted to drop a “thanks” for the plug a couple of days ago — I noticed a small spike in my daily visits, and it’s probably because of the 40 or so people you sent from here on a link. Thanks again, and take care…although I hope Woody pitches a complete game shutout two hitter against the Pads in the game today. Of course, I sometimes wish for world peace, too, and I think that world peace is more likely than Woody pitching a complete game shutout two hitter.

Orange & Black Baseball
I like our lineup today (Nady @ 3B hitting 7th, Blum in 8th spot) … or at least I did until I saw they went 9-up/9-down in the first 3 innings
I gotta believe this was Redding’s last start in the 5-hole … give May the next turn? I agree that it seems too early to call up Stauffer …
Too early for Stauffer. Anyone but Redding. I’d be fine with either May or Reyes.
I just realized we had a day game. Damn.
Redding is just awful. He seems like the kind of guy that should be on the back end of the Royals or Devil Rays rotation, not on a team that’s supposed to be a division contender.
Is there anyone out there that would take Burroughs for a .500 pitcher?
Freaking run it out, Nevin. Or go lollygag somewhere else.
Trying to choose between May and Redding as a 5th starter is like choosing between Star Jones and Rosie O’Donnell as your personal trainer. All of those options seem like they will be ineffective in their role.
This is like watching a little league game.
I don’t know guys, I think its time, I gotta say it…
FREE TIM STAUFFER!
Forget Stauffer, let’s bring in Larry Bowa and light a fire under this lethargic team. Well maybe not Bowa but someone like that who’s not a complete a-hole.
Bowa is the anti-christ. But I hope Sandy is watching, if he hasn’t shot the TV Elvis-style.
I’m usually an optimist but this team is terrible. They don’t have one guy on the field who’s anything better than an average fielder yet their strength is supposed to be pitching. All 3 outfielders can’t reach the infield on the fly and they have at best 3 reliable starting pitchers.
Before the season the talk was how good this team could be if everything went right. Instead almost everything went wrong and we’re seeing how quickly things can go downhill. Hopefully they can get it turned around and start winning but I don’t see how it’s possible without some major changes.
i just had to point out a blog called Horseman Productions that I saw today. There are several posts about an umpire using human growth hormone. The address is http://horsemanproductions.blogspot.com
