You ever feel like there’s not enough time to read everything? Or maybe that’s just me… The Indie Scene (Hardball Times). Richard Barbieri attended an Atlantic League game and tells us about it. Apparently Wily Mo Pena (whom the Padres recently signed because the entire Portland Beavers outfield is in San Diego) crushed a ball [...]

Welcome to the Broomtown
The weekend sweep in Pittsburgh sure was nice. On the heels of a series loss in Atlanta, and with the Giants kicking around the Arizona Rollovers, the Padres needed those wins. Mat Latos, fully recovered from his sneeze, worked six strong innings in Saturday’s 9-2 victory. His fastball came in at its usual 92-95 mph, [...]

With Half a Season Remaining, I’m Already Running Low on Ellipses
One of the joys of east coast road trips is that, thanks to the day gig, I almost never catch any of the action. I heard exactly two pitches as I started driving home on Tuesday evening: strike one and game over. Well, that was a nice way to pass the time during my commute. [...]

It went down like this on Tuesday: Zach said in the comments: “Why does Buddy [Black] hate Aaron Cunningham? And I’m pretty sure the Will Venable experiment should be over. I’ll always treasure those two months in 2009 when he looked like a major leaguer.” I replied: “Not that I mind seeing Cunningham get a [...]
Hundley Rises Up to Challenge of His Rival, Beats Nationals Twice
Friday Clayton Richard was efficient (7 IP, 74 pitches, 52 strikes) in Friday’s 5-3 loss to the Nationals but made a couple of mistakes. The big blow was a three-run homer off the bat of Josh Willingham in the fourth. He absolutely crushed a ball to dead center.

I’m a little behind in my reading. Here are few items you might enjoy… The FanGraphs UZR Primer (FanGraphs). MGL continues his fascinating foray into the world of defensive metrics. One Full Season and the Latos Conundrum
by Geoff Young on Jul 20, 2010 (10) Comments
Reader Michael sends us this note: Since so much of the media is saying that the Pads are a half-season fluke, but I knew they did quite well after the ASB last year, I figured I’d compile a chart of how teams have done if you add their post-ASB 2009 records with their pre-ASB records [...]
