Padres (30-38) vs Indians (31-36) Josh Banks vs Jeremy Sowers 4:05 p.m. PT Channel 4SD AM 1090, FM 105.7, XM 178 MLB, B-R Hello, Cleveland! Talk about two teams that aren't where they expected to be come mid-June... The Indians are without several key players, including Fausto Carmona, Travis Hafner, Victor Martinez, and Jake Westbrook. Former Padres second baseman Josh Barfield, who hasn't been a factor in three games for Cleveland this year, also is on the DL courtesy of a left middle finger sprain. Jody Gerut returns to the site of his greatest big-league success. He hit .279/.336/.494 for the Tribe as a rookie back in ...

Bad Pitching Performances, Book and Spring Training Updates

Three things on the agenda today. Four if you count "an almost fanatical devotion to the pope," but I digress... Bad Pitching Performances I've got a new article up at Hardball Times: "Ten pitching seasons to forget." Three of these guys once pitched for the Padres. One was Mark Davis, which gave me an excuse to revisit the Keltner List I did for him over at Baseball Think Factory many moons ago. Steve Arlin merited an honorable mention for his 1973 season with the Padres. Before I added an innings-pitched component to the formula, Arlin made my top 10. Here's the writeup on him that got left on the ...

Inspired by former Indians shortstop Tom Veryzer (of all people!), we ended up talking in Monday's comments about some of our favorite Padres memories. I've been having a little fun with a similar thread over at Knuckle Curve, and I thought, hey, we should do a full-on thread here at Ducksnorts. Yeah, I know. That's crazy talk. Anyway, my questions to you are these: When was the first Padres game you attended in person? (Link to the box score at B-R if you can find it.) Are there any specific memories you have of that game? Could be action on the field, or whatever. For example, I'm pretty sure that ...

Friday Links (26 Oct 07)

I'm terrible at faking enthusiasm. This World Series means nothing to me. I'd just as soon not see Tom Werner win another championship, but I don't even care much about that anymore. Does this make me a bad baseball fan? I dunno. Maybe... Nevin: Poway looks like 'Mars' (San Diego Union-Tribune). Several Padres (and Chargers) have been affected by the fires. It's very foggy in my part of town this morning; hopefully folks on the front line will benefit from this weather shift. Yankees likely to offer Jorge Posada $40 million (New York Daily News). Some folks have mentioned Posada as a possible target for the Padres. ...
