It don’t come easy,
You know it don’t come easy.
It don’t come easy,
You know it don’t come easy.

The Padres appear intent on making the race interesting again this season. They’ve dropped two in a row in Denver and seen the rival Dodgers improve their bullpen and infield by dumping reliever Danys Baez on the Atlanta Braves in exchange for Wilson Betemit, whom the Padres (or at least some of their fans) were coveting as a third base solution.

Cause for Concern:

Chris Young, Flyball Pitcher

Jeff Francis, Master of Coors Field
IP ERA H/9 HR/9 BB/9 SO/9
55.2 3.07 5.98 0.65 2.91 5.98

Cause for Hope:

Chris Young, Road Warrior

Let’s get a third baseman. Let’s get a win. Go Padres!

  1. 73 mph circle change, beautiful.

  2. Three outs. Hoffman.

  3. Nice performance by Trevor…lets get the split tomorrow…

  4. Lowell keeps on being connected with the Padres. I wouldn’t mind having him on the team for the rest of the year. He’s a good defensive 3B and more of a threat at the plate than other names that have been mentioned. I’d imagine that if the Padres are going to do that, someone is going to have to pick up some of his salary.

SonsofSamHorn is buzzing with the Linebrink to the Red Sox talk. Here’s an example of a trade that one of the posters there proposed. This probably makes sense for the Padres:

    Give

Red Sox: Mike Lowell, Clay Buchholz, Chad Spann
    Cubs: Greg Maddux, A. Ramirez
Padres: Scott Linebrink, Clay Hensley, George Kottaras

    Receive

Red Sox: A. Ramirez, Scott Linebrink
Cubs:Clay Buchholz, Clay Hensley, George Kottaras, Chad Spann
    Padres: Mike Lowell, Greg Maddux

Lets the Padres make a run this year without sacrificing a ton of the future. I’d do this deal-especially if one of the two teams would kick money over to cover some of Lowell’s contract.

  5. Paul

I’d do that deal, too. I wouldn’t mind Lowell. He’s on fire this year (36 2b), but I’m not sure how the Fenway numbers would translate to Petco.

I’d love to see how Maddux does in Petco. That would be a great pickup.
