Park will miss Sunday’s scheduled start due to a “lower digestive tract ailment”:

PITTSBURGH (AP) – The San Francisco Giants boosted their bullpen for the stretch run, acquiring veteran left-handed reliever Mike Stanton on Friday from the Washington Nationals for a minor league pitcher.
Are the Giants now the oldest team in major league history?
What, John Franco wasn’t available?!?
Geoff Blum…delayed steal…you’ve got to be kidding me. This can’t be a good sign.
Clay is on it tonight. this will be fun.
I am almost convinced that I could outrun Geoff Blum on the bases…and i’m 37 and in average shape..what the hell was he thinking running on that play?
yikes…we’re just doomed at Coors…
The new Coors Special, the popped up bunt base hit
If I could do it…I’d punch both of the Rockies announcers right in the face right now…
Nice play by Bard to cut off the throw himself and get the out at 2nd…and nice play by Khalil to hold onto the ball…down 2-0…
wow..24 hours later the Rockies announcers finally figured out that Linebrink wasn’t with the club last night. Way to be prepared boys… god I wish i had a broadcasting degree…
Clay seems to be better when there’s nobody on. I don’t know if it’s pitching from the stretch or he just panics when people get on base. This base has been a pretty good example of that. When one person gets on, you can almost count on two.
Third baseman was traded today, but not to us. Per ESPN, “Third baseman David Bell was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for right-hander Wilfrido Laureano.”
Well, I’m all broken up about not getting David Bell. But I am not losing hope on this game. Kim implodes at inopportune moments about 9 times out of 10.
oh, and I don’t think you need a broadcasting degree to get a baseball announcer gig. Usually MLB service time and a sunny disposition seems to be enough…
On the radio, Leitner just said the Dodgers got Wilson Betemit from the Braves for Danys Baez and Willy Aybar.
Maybe Linebrink stayed home yesterday so his trade value wouldn’t go down giving up home runs…
ATLANTA (AP) – The Atlanta Braves made another trade to bulk up their bullpen Friday night, acquiring reliever Danys Baez and infielder Willy Aybar from the struggling Los Angeles Dodgers for infielder Wilson Betemit.
I am one cranky Padres fan right now.
one last chance to avoid friday despair. let’s go mike.
Oh well. Good catch.
Baez?! Not only do we lose the game, we get to see a division rival pick up one of the best available third basemen for a crappy reliever. On the bright side, at least we didn’t blow a lead tonight.
Good: Bell was traded and not to us, we still have Linebrink
Bad: Dodgers got Betemit and got rid of Baez
My attempt at analysis: We obviously could have had Bell or Hillenbrand but passed, which tells me the Pads want more of an impact at third. Linebrink for Betemit could have happened (more or less) but didn’t. Perhaps the Pads want more power, or someone with more of a track record.
So who is left? Ensberg has been mentioned but it seems like he’s not going to be traded. I read that the Rangers have offered Blalock in a Tejada deal so he’s available. If they lose out on Tejada they might be willing to trade him for Linebrink+ because they lost Cordero in the Lee trade. Blalock fits the budget, he’s making $3 mil this year. His salary goes up each year, peaking at $6.2 mil in 09. Of course he’s been terrible lately but he’s a San Diego product who might be energized by coming home.
Would Linebrink get it done or would we have to include a prospect?
What about Linebrink for Soriano? Nats could use an arm and we can stick him at 3rd or 2nd if Barton can handle it.
No offense, but I think they’re serving the special sauce on planetjeffy. Even if Bowden would take a setup guy for the best everyday player on the market, the Padres are not hunting in the $17 million bad left fielder forest. And quite frankly I would rather see John Moores open a few more cancer research centers than throw that kind of money at Soriano.
If the Brewers got Bell, does that mean that we’ll get Koskie?
That Betemit thing is a little disappointiing — hopefully there’s something good on the horizon for the Pads. We cannot continue to have Blum starting at 3b. Good guy, I love his attitude — but he’s not a starting 3b.
I bet we’re going to get Boone. Yuck.
I read that Koskie is going to be out at least another 4 weeks with post-concussion symptoms. Maybe all this just means we’ll end up with Randa or Aurilia again.
From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: “It is looking increasingly likely Randa will stay put. The San Diego Padres, the one team pursuing a third baseman, are focused on Chicago White Sox prospect Josh Fields.”
Whatever. As long as we’re not getting Randa or Boone, I’m all set.
I agree with Anthony that this must mean that something else is on the horizon. I guess that Towers wasn’t bluffing about not giving up Linebrink for a 3B. It is frustrating that the Dodgers got him with a package that seems to be a little less than what the Padres could have offered. On the other hand, we don’t have an Aybar type infield bat in the system (if we did, he’d be playing 3B everyday and we wouldn’t be in this mess).
Blalock is a pipe dream; the Rangers would only trade him if they got Tejada back. About 2 weeks ago I posted a trade possibility (to Gaslampball.com) to get Miguel Tejada: Kahlil Greene or Barfield and Kotteras for Tejada and some cash. Several rumors around now about the availability of Tejada. I wonder if the Padres might get involved.
I hope that we can get Fields or Beltre. 2 months of Randa or Boone doesn’t sound like much fun. But we have to make a move. I can’t imagine Towers watching these games and thinking that things are all right at 3B.
Tejada is declining in skills and is owed way to much money…Just b/c he has a nice name does not mean he is worth pursuing.
If KT does not do something, we will not win this division…wonder if Beltre is really on the horizon…
Baseball America, about Fields:
Best Player: At least one White Sox quarterback is making a smooth transition to pro baseball. Unlike Stanford product Joe Borchard, third baseman Josh Fields has improved in each of the three seasons since he was picked in the first round out of Oklahoma State. His steady run production has been a centerpiece on a powerful Triple-A Charlotte team, just as it was on a playoff team in the Double-A Southern League a year ago. He ranked among the International League leaders in batting (.333, second), on-base (.413, third) and slugging percentage (.567, second), with the best sign being an increase of about 60 points over his career batting average. His footwork at third was a concern but he has cut down his errors significantly.
