Avalanche or roadblock
I was a snowball in hell
Avalanche or roadblock
A jailer trapped in his cell
Money’s all broke, and food’s going hungry
If it wasn’t for disappointment
I wouldn’t have any appointments
Unfortunately, they are Giants and they won’t go away. Somebody do me a favor and shoot me an e-mail when it’s safe to watch again.
via http://www.pdxbeavers.com‘s discussion board, i met the parents of JJ Furmaniak … his dad has kept in touch via email … check out this one below … confirms, once again, that st louis fans are THE BEST.
pretty cool, huh?

oops, here’s the email i got from john …
Subject: JJ’s Major league Debut
Well gang J J played in his first Major League game today 1 for 4 a double should have been 2-4 but he hit the ball hard towards 3rd base and the ball took a hop on the third baseman and they gave the thirdbaseman an error. As the game went on you could see the confidence building. He made all his defensive plays. We went out after the game and he said he wasn’t nervous although when he took the field in the bottom of the first and was taking warmup grounders he threw the ball to first and it went into the dugout, The St Louis fans were awesome . when they realized he had gotten his first Major League hit and they were throwing the ball in the dugout for JJ’ to keepsake, they stood and gave him a standing O. That was awesome………………………………………………………….
Here’s a sweet didy from BP …
BP EXTRA
All three Dodger outfielders made errors in the team’s 6-4 loss to the Rockies on Tuesday night. It’s the fifth time since 1972 they’ve turned this trick, and 16th time since 1972 that any team has. Other than the Dodgers, only the Giants (twice) have done it more than once in that span.

Thanks, LM. That was great for JJ. Always like him.
Debut in Busch, what a great thing for him to have that. I wouldn’t be surprised to see JJ in Cardinals’ uniform when Eckstein’s contract ran out.
Hey, there’s a game on! Went to the online scoreboard just to see what day games were being played – and it’s on in SF. Padres up 1-0 in the third.
Oooops, make that 1-1 as Woody gives up a gopher ball to Randy Winn.
Today, we unleash our secret weapon: Manny Alexander. About time he’s in the lineup.
Ugh.
I was about to ask about that. OK, Khalil doesn’t look so good lately, perhaps a day off is a good idea. But the start goes to Manny freaking Alexander? Man, if that doesn’t define the mediocrity of this team…
Woody since Sept. 1 (thru 5 today):
16.2 IP – 5.4 H/9 – 0.5 HR/9 – 3.8 BB/9 – 7.0 K/9 – 1.62 ERA
Woody is stepping it up, so time to score some runs and takes advantage of the fact that Bonds ain’t playing.
Less confusing format:
16.2 IP
5.4 H/9
0.5 HR/9
3.8 BB/9
7.0 K/9
1.62 ERA
Another one-pitch AB by a Padres.
With no one out after a walk to put two men on.
Urgh!
Did they really walk Alexander intentionally to get to Woody? That’s hilarious.
Looks like the IBB to Manny ‘not Ramirez’ Alexander will just get Woody a chance to hit.
Go Woody! Go yard!
Six walks issued by Cain and we only got 3 hits for 2 runs…so far.
Hmmmm, I feel a certain PH warming up.
I’m finally back online. This time, in D.C.
Line-o-mite!
Welcome back, Kevin! Hope you’re settling in okay.
So, what’s up with going 3-0 to Matheny with the bases loaded? Can’t complain about the outcome but geez, does everything have to be so difficult?
OK, even if there is no such thing as clutch hitting, just the law of averages says the Padres have to be way overdue on some sort of hit with runners on late in a game. Arrrgghh.
Linebrink: 13 pitches to get 5 outs. Dude is nails.
I can’t believe they pinch hit for Manny Alexander…
Quoth the Bard: “It is an inning, played by the Padres, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”
Matt Cain’s first four big league starts: 27 IP, 11 H.
According to CBS’ Sportsline’s pitch locations, 2 of Aki’s first 3 pitches to Durham should have been called strikes. Anybody watching?
Otsuka strikes out Bonds.
Jeez, that sucks.
Double in the gap, Giants lead.
Game over.
Boy, its starting to look more and more like a tank. Its supposed to be statistical long shot for the Gigiantes and the Dogs, but we are playing so poorly. Are we tired or what? I kinda understand the pitching giving way because they feel they have to win the game and we have not hit at all, but the defense, just terrible. And its clear that Boch is out of explanantions, hell even Teddy ballgame doesn’t know what to say. Basically, this demonstrates why bench guy are on the bench, because they can’t do consistently and can’t do it in the clutch and teh Pads have starters that should be on the Bench. Oh, there’s always the EPL.
A clutch hit! Who’da thunk it?
Thanks, Sean B., for making me look like a nay-saying idiot. Honestly, you can’t believe how grateful I am.
Fourth hit for Ramon today.
Another clutch two out hit!
This is beyond crazy. If we somehow manage to hold on to the game, it might be the one that breaks the camel’s back.
So is this what baseball was like in the deadball era?
Eight Padres hits today, seven by Hernandez (4) and Giles (3).
Plus, 12 BBs.
8 Padres hits today…4 Ramon, 3 Giles, one huge one for Sean.
Geeez, Brian, that’s a little scary.
1 out (Death).
Woohoo! We won one game in a three game series!
I miss Kevin when Hoffman’s in the game.
2 outs (taxes).
3 outs (Hoffman).
I have to get back in a rhythm after getting back online.
You know what I like about this one? It’s going to leave a real bad taste in their mouth. Down to the last strike against a guy who just does not get extra base hits. That is very, very sweet.
This feels large.
3 for 17 with RISP, 15 LOB, 12 BBs drawn. A microcosm of the whole year — could have been done a lot earlier and a lot easier but at least they did just barely enough to win.
WOw. I left long ago thinking the game was over.
Thank you Sean Burroughs.
THank you Giles and Hernandez.
Thank you Hoffman and Seanez.
OK, Aki no more of that.
Padres hitters (other than above), get some hits would you!
Wow. The Padres won. Yoohoo!
Take that, Giants!
I was at the game, with a very familiar feeling of watching the SS Padres ram into a reef and take on water while everyone around me is cheering. But the Good Lord intervened, taking pitty on our long-aching souls and for our religious-based name.
Things that made me want to smack Bochy:
Twice having Roberts bat against lefties with RHB on the bench; I would take DJ or Nady against lefties over Roberts.
Twice having Randa bat with guys on base against righties when you have Burroughs on the bench. Randa LOB = 10.
But, it worked. Saved Burroughs for the time he needed. A little more ummph and Sean’s shot goes to the wall, scoring Fick. But I will take it. Have to stay focused, but what a sweet way to end a miserable road trip.
FYI: For anyone in the SD area, Channel 4 is rebroadcasting the game right now.
