Turbine Dude #15; Where does the suffering end?
Two games against Houston, another two against the Giants. I have a hard time believing that it is due to the fact that we have faced tougher starting pitching, and play in a less friendly hitters park.

  28. Jefe
    Posted April 25, 2008 at 8:06 pm | Permalink

I know there was some discussion earlier here about the bad luck the team has faced in regards to the opposition starters this year. I guess our bad luck really stems from the fact that we’re in the NL West, where all those great pitchers reside (save Oswalt).

Also, something else to consider – Peavy, CY, Mad Dog, Wolf (before tonight) and Germano (before the last start) — you can make the argument that opposing teams have the ‘bad luck’ in having to face our staff as well. Our rotation has been the victim of ‘bad luck’ in getting no run support from the bats.

I guess my point here is that we should be comparing offensive capacities in the division, not starting pitching – sadly, right now we don’t come close to either Colorado or Arizona.

#27@parlo: That’s it in a nutshell. However.com, traditionally this is the Padres worst month.

The true metal of this team is getting runners to home with bases loaded as are such right now. We haven’t been doing that.

I have been hearing a lot lately that April is Trevors worst month too.
It turns out that since 2001, AUGUST is his worst month. Followed by September and and April.
He has had two bad Aprils, 2005 and 2007. In 2005, June was a worse month. In 2007, August was a worse month.

    http://www3.signonsandiego.com/news/2008/apr/24/beyond-box-score-42408/

Through Thursday night, the Padres had played 220 innings on the season. They had scored in 43 of those innings or 19.5 percent — or an average of 1.75 innings per nine innings.

We have a 60% chance of scoring one run in the next three innings…

I’m also tired of Bud Black, and all the players, constantly saying “we’re just not getting it done” and “we need to play better”. You know that will be the quote in the paper tomorrow.

Can someone on the team please get PISSED OFF and say “damn it, we’re tired of this… we’re tired of being boo’ed in our own ballpark… we’re going to fix this because we’re tired of getting our butts kicked.”

Our team just looks so mopey… with such a “golly, gee whiz” attitude… “oh well, we lost”…
