We had a request for Chicago or Strawberry Alarm Clock lyrics today. I couldn’t find anything appropriate for the occasion, but I did learn that Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Ed King was a founding member of Strawberry Alarm Clock, which I would not have guessed.
Anyway, the Padres were supposed to win the games Brandon Webb isn’t pitching so they wouldn’t have to beat him to take the series. Oh well, I guess now they have to do it the hard way.
What else is new?
Picking up where last year's version left off, the Ducksnorts 2008 Baseball Annual provides in-depth analysis of and commentary on the San Diego Padres. Get your copy today.

September 21, 2006 at 7:06 pm
Whoa! Am I the first post? Heeeelllllooooo
September 21, 2006 at 7:08 pm
Eh, bad start by Woody.
September 21, 2006 at 7:08 pm
Never good to walk the lead-off batter.
September 21, 2006 at 7:11 pm
I think I could have hit that first pitch strike to Conor Jackson.
September 21, 2006 at 7:15 pm
Steve Quis is already singing…makes me miss Matty V
September 21, 2006 at 7:16 pm
Nice uneventful inning after that first walk. Good job working ahead on those 2-3-4 hitters (even if it is a good thing that they were taking first pitch).
September 21, 2006 at 7:20 pm
Good work criticizing Giles for swinging on “3-0″, when it was in fact 3-1 when he swung.
September 21, 2006 at 7:21 pm
I really really hope Matty resigns. That was a fairly predictable bottom of the first.
September 21, 2006 at 7:21 pm
Three lazy groundouts, two on hitters’ counts.
September 21, 2006 at 7:22 pm
Dodgers up 2-0 on the first inning homer.
September 21, 2006 at 7:23 pm
Dodgers up already
September 21, 2006 at 7:25 pm
Lazy throw, Blummer!
September 21, 2006 at 7:26 pm
“He was lucky he kept him in the ballpark on that one.” Granted, that was a horrific curve, but it still fooled Tracy pretty badly, and he had to make a good adjustment to hit it well.
September 21, 2006 at 7:29 pm
With the exception of that hanging curve that was hit for a double and the leadoff walk, Woody is doing an excellent job locating his pitches.
September 21, 2006 at 7:31 pm
Thank you very much Chris Snyder.
September 21, 2006 at 7:31 pm
Yup. Looks like he’s getting in a groove. Now where’s that magic bat power…
September 21, 2006 at 7:38 pm
OH NO. STOP IT! no bunting. bad cameron.
September 21, 2006 at 7:39 pm
Haven’t they learned their lesson yet? Cameron + bunt = bad
September 21, 2006 at 7:40 pm
The Pirates managed to not score with runners on second and third and no outs in the top of the 2nd.
September 21, 2006 at 7:40 pm
YEAH! Cameron’s on a tear.
September 21, 2006 at 7:40 pm
THAT’S WHY YOU DON’T BUNT CAMERON!!! ALL RIGHT!!!!
September 21, 2006 at 7:40 pm
#19 - sounds like us at times
September 21, 2006 at 7:41 pm
Cameron = Mr September!
September 21, 2006 at 7:41 pm
Not this time. Attaway Geoff.
September 21, 2006 at 7:44 pm
Nice lead. Now, let’s keep it!
September 21, 2006 at 7:51 pm
Just got back from dinner; heard the three-spot while driving home. Nice way to start the night.
September 21, 2006 at 7:53 pm
Hi, Geoff! Just heard the Pirates scored one. 2-1 Dogs
September 21, 2006 at 7:54 pm
Wretch! Am I really listening to Quis suck up to Mud?
September 21, 2006 at 7:54 pm
Attaway Brian. Two times up, two groundouts to the right side. On counts where he should be getting good pitches to hit.
September 21, 2006 at 7:54 pm
Deja vu?
September 21, 2006 at 7:57 pm
Mmmmmmm…chipwich
September 21, 2006 at 7:57 pm
Wow, that does look good.
September 21, 2006 at 7:58 pm
Did Quis just say he wants to see Coleman in Baywatch?!
September 21, 2006 at 7:59 pm
Do I really need that image of Jerry Coleman with his shirt off flexing on the beach?
September 21, 2006 at 7:59 pm
I can’t take it. One more random comment like that I and I’m muting!
September 21, 2006 at 8:00 pm
Great work. That’s how you pitch with a lead.
September 21, 2006 at 8:10 pm
Thank you D-Backs hitters. 58 pitches through 5.
September 21, 2006 at 8:12 pm
Yep…woody is looking good tonight so far. And on another note..this is my first experience with this bozo doing the Padres game….If I’m Matty V listening to this, I’m saying this is who you’re going to replace me with…my price tag just went up a whole lot..
September 21, 2006 at 8:14 pm
A complete game from Woody would certainly be nice……2 days off for the main bullpen guys would be huge at this point.
September 21, 2006 at 8:17 pm
I feel bad for Steve Quis. He seems like a nice guy but he just annoys everyone. He reminds me of a kid who tries to ingratiate himself by talking all the time and trying to be funny, not realizing that he’s just irritating everyone.
And the way he pronounces words that end in “-ay” really bothers me.
It could be worse… what if Dennis Morgino was doing color instead of Mud?
September 21, 2006 at 8:18 pm
Anthony, you hit it right on the head! That’s exactly who he reminds me of.
September 21, 2006 at 8:23 pm
He should watch the games Matty does so he doesn’t repeat his material. He’s done that a couple of times tonight.
Maybe he’s just trying to prove he belongs with all the anecdotes and stats. He would be okay if he just toned it down a little and stopped trying to be Matty Jr.
September 21, 2006 at 8:23 pm
Okay, what’s the deal here? Woody was cruising.
September 21, 2006 at 8:24 pm
Whoa, Boch did the visit!
September 21, 2006 at 8:26 pm
It’s not like the balls have been crushed. A couple of bloops into the outfield and an infield single. So he hasn’t collapsed.
September 21, 2006 at 8:26 pm
Nice response!
September 21, 2006 at 8:26 pm
Haha, the second strike got into his head.
September 21, 2006 at 8:27 pm
Woody is a smart pitcher. That was a nice sequence to Byrnes.
September 21, 2006 at 8:28 pm
Greetings from the ballpark gang…I’ve got a wifi connection in section 101!
September 21, 2006 at 8:29 pm
Woody has been doing what Wells was supposed to do.
September 21, 2006 at 8:29 pm
Nice location, Rich!
September 21, 2006 at 8:30 pm
Hey Rich — sweet seats! We want pix.
September 21, 2006 at 8:30 pm
Woody pitched a great game.
September 21, 2006 at 8:31 pm
Not sure why Bruce is pulling him, but a standing “O” for Woody and here comes the Claw…
September 21, 2006 at 8:32 pm
Camera’s back in the car I’m afraid….but I really should post some pics…maybe put up those ones of Chase from the Storm game…
September 21, 2006 at 8:33 pm
Clutch pitching by Woody - let’s hope Meredith can chip in and get Woody off the hook. Gonzalez pinch hitting…
September 21, 2006 at 8:34 pm
the Claw
September 21, 2006 at 8:35 pm
Wow. It really looked like Luis Gonzalez had no chance out there.
September 21, 2006 at 8:35 pm
The Claw is our master! (what’s a little Toy Story quote among friends?)
September 21, 2006 at 8:37 pm
Nice reference, Rich.
September 21, 2006 at 8:37 pm
Haha, I like it Rich.
September 21, 2006 at 8:39 pm
Cool shot on TV of Adrian Gonzalez’ older brother cheering him on after that knock. Edgar plays in the Marlins organization.
September 21, 2006 at 8:41 pm
Edgar Gonzalez career stats
September 21, 2006 at 8:42 pm
The resemblance is obvious.
September 21, 2006 at 8:43 pm
Did they really just break out the “Rally Clap”?
I think they prescribe meds for that.
September 21, 2006 at 8:44 pm
Geoff…did you really look up Strawberry Alarm Clock? You work harder than I thought!!
They sang “Incense and Pepperments”, but those Lyrics are a little to controversial to post here…
September 21, 2006 at 8:45 pm
I popped over to San Diego Spotlight and posted a column from the game…had to take advantage before the connection disappears on me. *grin*
September 21, 2006 at 8:45 pm
Manny Alexander at third…love having that Thunder on the Hot Corner.
September 21, 2006 at 8:48 pm
CM: Yeah, I knew who they were but I didn’t want to use “Incense and Peppermints” because it was too obvious. And, er, controversial. I still can’t believe a guy in that band was in Skynyrd.
September 21, 2006 at 8:48 pm
Pit tied it up…2-2 in the bottom of the 5th…but the Dodgers are threatening.
September 21, 2006 at 8:49 pm
Just in case it’s not clear to anyone yet, this Meredith kid is pretty darned good. Nice having him around - thank you, Messers Epstein & Mirabelli.
September 21, 2006 at 8:50 pm
Pirates and Dodgers are 2-2 in the fifth according to the right field board…
Meredith’s motion is so deceptive…seeing it on TV does not do it justice. The ball just seems to slide effortlessly in and out. Stretching and singing at Petco…”Good good good vibrations…”
September 21, 2006 at 8:51 pm
Dodgers now have Furcal at 3rd and Lofton at 2nd…1 out with Olmedo Saenz at the plate…
September 21, 2006 at 8:52 pm
Good thing Drew couldn’t come up with that ball. Otherwise Webb is out of the inning on just four pitches. Next up, Sledge Hammer.
September 21, 2006 at 8:52 pm
Saenz K’d…the moustached one is up…two outs…
Funny random point of the day…Did you know there is a HUGE paiting of Jeff Kent in the Houston Airport? As of this week it is still there.
September 21, 2006 at 8:55 pm
Kent walked…JD “My Woo-Woo Hurts” Drew is up…and he comes up with the 2 Out, 4 pitch, bases loaded walk…Dodgers take a 3-2 lead.
September 21, 2006 at 8:55 pm
4 pitch walk to Drew puts the Dodgers ahead.
September 21, 2006 at 8:55 pm
#75: Thanks for the warning. Does it have the porn ’stache?
September 21, 2006 at 8:58 pm
You want Manny on that wall - you NEED Manny on that wall
September 21, 2006 at 8:58 pm
Of course it does…that is how he rolls…the 1970’s Porno Stache is back in…didn’t you know?
NICE PLAY Manny…I am sorry for the earlier put down.
September 21, 2006 at 8:58 pm
Just Manny being Manny, baby.
September 21, 2006 at 8:58 pm
Pit ends the inning by striking out Martin…Dodgers go into the 6th up by a run.
September 21, 2006 at 9:01 pm
Alright, Quis’ stock just went up a few points for quoting Fletch…
and Linebrink gets ‘em 1-2-3. Trevor lurks.
September 21, 2006 at 9:02 pm
Our announcers just butchered the meaning of ironic.
September 21, 2006 at 9:03 pm
Sweet…we finish the 8th…Now, do I spend the evening on the couch crying with my wife watching Gray’s Anatomy or stay in the office and watch the Pads on TV and the Bucs on MLBTV…Hmmm decisions, decisions…
I think I will watch the Pads and ask my wife to forgive me later.
September 21, 2006 at 9:03 pm
That play brought us instantly to our feet…and Linebrink responded to a break finally going his way…strikeout and rolling over a ground ball…
Jack Palance would say: “Confidence is very ****, don’t ya think?”
September 21, 2006 at 9:05 pm
Doc ties T Gwynn’s record with triple #13.
September 21, 2006 at 9:06 pm
I’m gonna shut down here for Trevor Time if it comes…this was very cool. Dave Roberts just tied Tony Gwynn’s franchise single season mark for triples.
September 21, 2006 at 9:07 pm
Lucky for the Snakes that ball hit Giles, otherwise it’s a wild pitch and Roberts scores.
September 21, 2006 at 9:08 pm
Enjoy it, Rich! Thanks for giving us the dirt from right behind the dirt.
September 21, 2006 at 9:12 pm
Loaded up after the walk to A-Gon…Gonzalez missed that dinger by what looked like at most a couple feet….I’d love to see Trevor get closer, but I want the victory more….
September 21, 2006 at 9:14 pm
Signing off from section 101…gonna watch this one finish from my feet. *Grin* This was kinda unique…
September 21, 2006 at 9:17 pm
He hit that well…
September 21, 2006 at 9:17 pm
Bases loaded, nobody no out, and no runs.
Will the curse fail twice in one week? Let’s hope so.
September 21, 2006 at 9:20 pm
Hell of a play by Cameron.
September 21, 2006 at 9:20 pm
Whoa. That’s a mighty fine catch there.
September 21, 2006 at 9:27 pm
That was phenomenal…
September 21, 2006 at 9:28 pm
C’mon Trevor…
Get this last out….
September 21, 2006 at 9:28 pm
PADS WIN…
September 21, 2006 at 9:29 pm
Cool. Maybe I get to see him tie the record tomorrow.
September 21, 2006 at 9:29 pm
ball game.
September 21, 2006 at 9:29 pm
LETS GO PIRATES
September 21, 2006 at 9:29 pm
Now, to root for the Buc’s rally…Sanchez is on 1st with no outs in the 8th…that is a start…
Have a good night all…GO BUCS!!!
September 21, 2006 at 9:31 pm
Let’s go Pirates
September 21, 2006 at 9:31 pm
also I have been idly watching this chat tongiht, but I wanted to say
Walker with bases loaded 9AB 8RBI entering today so I thought that was interesting.
keep that NL West lead. and with 10 games to go this race should be good.
September 21, 2006 at 9:32 pm
I’d like to see the Bucs win in 16 innings. just so they use all their arms before tomorrow’s game.
September 21, 2006 at 9:32 pm
1st and 3rd with 1 out..
September 21, 2006 at 9:36 pm
Ryan Doumit, you’re on notice. Two K’s with a runner on third and less than two outs in today’s game.
September 21, 2006 at 9:38 pm
Doumit at least got ejected.
September 21, 2006 at 9:56 pm
Chris Duffy is freaking on fire of late. If the Pirates could ever get his head on straight and get him to want to keep playing there, he’s a nice piece to have in that lineup.
September 21, 2006 at 10:07 pm
Pirates lose. Magic Number still 10.
September 21, 2006 at 11:58 pm
A little off topic but there’s a great article at BTF about Oliver Perez:
http://tinyurl.com/gzeta
Nice illustration of how a small change (and a good pitching coach) can make a big difference.
September 22, 2006 at 2:54 am
Better watch out, Jim Tracy is coming to town.
vr, Xei
