Welcome to the bandbox, we’ve got fun ‘n’ games:

Petco Park -- Welcome to the Bandbox?

Andruw Jones and Andy Adam LaRoche have hit some serious shots this weekend, but I still cannot believe that Chipper Jones’ second homer Friday night or Scott Thorman’s Saturday night (both to dead center) left the yard. I’m convinced those would have died on the warning track last year.

The Padres have 32 home games remaining this season. You know how many homers they and their opponents need to hit at Petco Park to surpass last year’s total?

Ten.

I say it happens by the end of the current homestand. Or maybe even by the end of the day. Hey, it could happen.

Jake Peavy takes the mound this afternoon as the Padres try to avoid being swept at home for the third time this season. I’ll be out at the park today. If you see a guy in a Ducksnorts trucker hat, stop by and say hey.

  1. Well, the heat must be keeping everyone away. Suffice it to say, thank god we don’t see that team again til next year, unless they make the playoffs. It was 1-1, then I took a sip of my beer and it was 7-1. That is when I got off my fat ass to moan the lawn.

  2. “moan the lawn” … rotflol :-)

So, what are theories for Petco’s rise in HR/G? Is there an “anti-humidor”?

Or might the atmospheric conditions just be different? (ex. wind blowing out, or at least non-in)

http://www.hittrackeronline.com/ … says AJones’ 463′ shot yesterday had 14′ added to it by atmospherics (10′ by wind + 4′ by temp) …

  3. I watched some of last night’s game on TBS … turn’d it on in time to see Park’s toss in the CF on the potential DP ball … yikes!

Wow, the TBS announcers really slam’d Bochy for decision to pitch to McCann … both before and after his 3-run HR!

Sikorski look’d aweful … I don’t remember seeing any swing/miss combo’s … in other words, his pitches were hitting a lot of wood! McCann just timed him, fouling off inside pitches until one came not-so-inside … it’s what happens when good-hitting meets bad-pitching … bleh …

  4. Oops, I think I misinterp’d the hittrackeronline data … I think it says that AJones’ HR yesterday actually went 449′ … but that if it were hit with ZERO atmospheric help/hurt, it woulda gone 463′ … 10′ extra due to wind (ie. the wind yesterday made it go 10′ less than it would have in a windless environment) and 4′ extra due to temp.

Check out http://www.hittrackeronline.com/glossary.php for their terms …
