  1. Greetings all! Just thought I’d start tonight’s string with a Father’s Day gift-related question — Geoff has a link to a book called “Spalding’s World Tour”. Has anyone read it? Liked it?

  2. I can’t tell how Capuano’s move isn’t a balk

  3. Once the leg commits to go forward he has to come to the plate. If he looks at the plate and holds his leg in the air it’s not a balk, even if he breaks his hands and rears back. That’s a hell of a move though, Piazza was one step away and looking right at him and he still got picked off.

  4. A phrase I didn’t think I’d ever utter: Jeff Cirillo, big league shortstop.

  5. Gonzalez has to stand a little bit closer to the plate or else people will keep pitching him away away away and he won’t get to any of it.

  6. Anthony isn’t it also his leg has to go behind is back leg? I think he is really pushing it every time he makes that move.

  7. I am starting to hate us against LHP because it means EY and Vinny; DR makes that catch on Fielder

  8. there’s no way all of those runs should be earned.. this is why errors and hits by official scorers are really biased.

  9. i did not get to see much of it, but i liked vinny’s DP; bochy will see that and give him another 80 consecutive PA’s

  10. If his front leg goes behind the rubber he has to deliver a pitch. Also if his front leg makes any movement at all towards a base he has to throw to that base. If he lifts his leg and moves it towards home and then steps towards first it’s a balk.

Even though he’s on the other team I love it when there’s a lefty on the mound with a tricky move. Reminds me of the good old days when the running game was actually important, or at least it was perveived as important.

  11. I think before Clay’s next start someone needs to hit him in the back of the head with a bat. He seems to pitch better when he requires stitches.

  12. I heard Bochy on the radio this morning and I think he reads the messages here. He said that he told Vinny after the game Saturday night and Boch said to him…look on the bright side…you got a hit in the 9th. He also said that he’ll play the 2 games this series against the lefties and would be sitting the other 2 games.

  13. Neither Vinny Castilla nor Eric Young should be on a Major League roster. That they regularly start and (one of them) bat at the top of the order for a team that intends to contend is insane.

  14. If the Padres are going to waste PA on EY, why not bring Ben Johnson up and have him learn to hit ML pitching. At least, he’ll be better at fielding LF than EY and probably Doc can teach him a trick or two. I doubt Doc is happy he’s sitting against lefties. He hit them pretty well last season.

Vinny is in need of long rest at 3B.
