Fri, Jun 16, 2006by Geoff Young
first pitch: 7:05 p.m., PT
television: Channel 4SD
matchup: Clay Hensley (4-5, 3.96 ERA) vs Jeff Weaver (3-9, 6.15 ERA)
previews: Padres.com | SI.com | ESPN
The Padres travel north to square off against the team that knows how to market itself and alienate its own community in the process. Clay Hensley, coming off a tough-luck loss against Florida, starts for the Padres, while the Angels counter with Jeff “I’m Here to Buy Stuff for My Little Brother and Make the Padres’ New Hitting Coach Look Good” Weaver.

Hensley is leaving the sinker up in the zone. This could get ugly.

Vlad takes him to the wall in center but Cameron makes the grab. That’s the difference between 3-0 and 6-0.
June 16, 2006 at 7:50 pm
I heart Mike Cameron.
June 16, 2006 at 7:51 pm
Heh, I forgot I was on a small DVR delay until I saw the timestamp on Geoff’s post.

Hey, Vinay — good to “see” you here. Official scorers are a little confused about what constitutes an error this inning.
June 16, 2006 at 8:10 pm
Boy, Adrian Gonzalez is slow.
June 16, 2006 at 8:14 pm
And Juan Rivera is the worst defensive outfielder I’ve seen since Kerry Robinson.
June 16, 2006 at 8:15 pm
Hehe. Agreed. Although we may have a chance to see Cust out there at some point. He’s beyond terrible.
June 16, 2006 at 8:38 pm
Gonzalez can be as slow as he wants to be when hits it like that.
June 16, 2006 at 9:29 pm
K-Rod hangs an 0-2 slider to Khalil for a leadoff double down the left field line. Much appreciated.
June 16, 2006 at 9:30 pm
OMG, not only does Barfield get the bunt down but Napoli throws it into left field trying to nail Khalil at third. Angels are doing everything they can to help us win it.
June 16, 2006 at 9:35 pm
Barfield was safe. in the replays Napoli doesn’t tag him..
June 16, 2006 at 9:36 pm
and someone want to explain to me how the 9th inning play is an earned run?
Josh Barfield hits a sacrifice bunt. Khalil Greene scores. Josh Barfield to 2nd. Throwing error by catcher Mike Napoli.
shouldn’t the error also allow greene to score?
June 16, 2006 at 9:37 pm
Barfield makes a brilliant slide home on a wild pitch but the plate umpire blows the call to end the ninth. Trevor Time.
June 16, 2006 at 9:38 pm
Trevor, bringin’ the icky.
June 16, 2006 at 9:40 pm
Ryguy, that’s a good question. Without Napoli’s error, Khalil is stranded on third.
June 16, 2006 at 9:42 pm
Sweet. Padres snatch victory from defeat. Everyone else in the division lost tonight, so the race just got a little tighter.
June 16, 2006 at 9:45 pm
dbacks 1-9 in past 10
June 16, 2006 at 9:48 pm
also what a vulture win for Alan Embree.
June 16, 2006 at 9:49 pm
Dang, Braz throws a complete game one hitter for the Beavs tonight. Cust hits two homers and PMac has two more hits..
