first pitch: 7:05 p.m., PT
television: Channel 4
matchup: Chan Ho Park (12-7, 5.86 ERA) vs Edwin Jackson (2-2, 7.23 ERA)
Sure, the games don’t mean much at this point, but it’s nice to see back-to-back good performances out of Brian Lawrence and Woody Williams. The Padres will need all the help they can get in the playoffs.
Park makes his pitch for a spot on the post-season roster tonight. Anything short of a no-no, and it’s a no-go.
Padres: Stay healthy, stay focused, keep your eyes on the prize. Remember that whoever you face in the playoffs will have a lot of explaining to do if you beat them. The world thinks you suck. You have nothing to lose. That makes you dangerous. We like dangerous.
Other Stuff
- Playoff rotation not yet clear (Padres.com). Jake Peavy and a lot of questions. Decisions will be announced on Sunday.
- Roberts to sit until Sunday (NC Times). Pads leadoff hitter is due to make an appearance in the season finale.
- No apologies: Postseason is deserved (U-T). It doesn’t happen often, but in this case I find myself in complete agreement with Nick Canepa.
- ‘Rally Monday’ gives fans a chance to hang with Matt, Mud and Billy Ray (U-T). Just what it says. Follow the link for details.
I’ve been (am still am) on vacation for the pivotal series against SF. I assumed they were off Monday, so did not look for the score, and only checked to see their bashing on Tuesday. Yea to the Padres. For all my gripes about the club and Bochy’s decisions, etc, they won the West. 4th trip in. I am psyched. I am sure there is a lot to talk about with the line up and roster, etc, but I am savoring winning the West.
As Geoff has pointed out, they are expected to flail, but they do have some talent, and, if it shows up, could be very tough.
Chan Ho so far has given up only 4 hits … and gotten one back Perhaps we should put him on the post-season roster … he can pitch & pinch-hit!
seems like everyone is grasping for a playoff spot
playoff roster spot I meant
This diehard Cardinal fan wishes you good luck. You might even win the series if our ace can’t beat yours in Game One (very possible considering Carpenter’s September stats).
It looks like the Padres are heading for a matchup with my beloved Cardinals. I would be happy to put up a St. Louis original, toasted ravioli, against a San Diego favorite of your choosing, that says our respective teams win the series. If you’re game, you can email me or post a comment on my blog.
