The tax man’s taken all my dough,
And left me in my stately home,
Lazing on a sunny afternoon.
And I can’t sail my yacht,
He’s taken everything I’ve got,
All I’ve got’s this sunny afternoon.

    Thanks for the Kinks lyric!

That song is great for your troubles, tax troubles, big fat mamma troubles, broken yacht problems.

Sometimes I think this team needs one guy or two to step up. Happened last night.

    Go Padres!

Hey, can I be let back into the Padre fan club now? Funny how one measely win removes the bitter taste in your mouth. But that is fandom, ridculously cranky when they loose, stupidly happy when they win. Pass the beer and soda crackers.

The Padres designated reliever Paul Quantrill for assignment and recalled third baseman Sean Burroughs from Triple-A Portland of the Pacific Coast League on Wednesday.

Fick gets the start at 1B today, Johnson takes Klesko’s spot in LF (poor numbers against Vazquez):

Burroughs recalled just in time to qualify for the postseason roster.

Really, Shawny back up. Post season roster moves, no?

Just back from the pool, what a beautful day and the Pads up by two runs already. I’m in love again.

That squeeze play was a disaster.

Roberts solo HR, should have been a two runs, but Johnson was out on the missed squeeze play. 4-0, Padres.

I wish Bochy would squeeze a LOT more. This, however, was not one of those times (and not just because it didn’t work).

I think Roberts should bunt for a hit a lot more, but not the times when he hits a home run.

Maybe he could combine the two and bunt for a home run?

Funny, Misty May and Kerri Walsh. Had my 76 year old mothr in law and 92 year old father in law over. watching the TV and you guessed it, Misty May and Kerri Walsh. I guess your never too old.

I guess not that its hot Petco doesn’t hold flyballs as much, no? As I recalled, this happened last year. Could help the Pads win some games.

What I have heard is that the park plays more neurtral during the day.

Burroughs batted .290 with three home runs, eight doubles, 14 RBIs and 21 runs in 32 games with the Beavers.

Gonzo HR. Park should be on a very short leesh here. Like just get out of this inning.

We designated Quantrill for assignment. Does that mean he is off the 40-man roster — that he is toast?

Sean is going to bat for Park…

Johnson is bunting… can’t say I like that call.

    Home run, Ben Johnson!

Looks like this failed-bunt-becomes-a-home-run strategy is a breakthrough!

  24. Posted August 31, 2005 at 2:23 pm | Permalink

Looks like Boch doesn’t have a good idea of when to bunt is what it looks like.

I like Roberts, but why slide into first? It’s silly.

Just heard the obligatory mention of Roberts/Red Sox last season from the D-backs crew. Take a drink.

Now that is a spicy meanball!

Gameday shows the Johnson homerun as WAY past the center field fence, like in Padre Park. Watch out kids. Like to have seen that.

Perhaps ESPN or the local news night.

    What fun.

Man, this is so hard to believe. Chan Ho leaves with a huge lead after shutting down the Dbacks. Then our stellar bullpen tries to give the game away. wtf?

OT: this email from a friend who was listening to the Giants game on the radio last night …

Last night, bottom 6, count is 2-0 to Durham, he fouls one off the plate and it bounces back and hits him right in the groin. He’s on the ground and doesn’t get up, trainer comes out etc.

Finally the game resumes and he gets back in the box.

    Kuiper : “That’s 2 balls and 1 strike.”
