IGD: Padres @ Phillies (24 Jul 2005)

first pitch: 10:35 a.m., PT
television: Channel 4
matchup: Brian Lawrence (5-9, 4.13 ERA) vs Brett Myers (7-5, 3.32 ERA)
preview: Padres.com

Padres have lost six straight, including all five on their current road trip. Still no news on the rumored Phil Nevin for Sidney Ponson deal. I’ll open a new thread if and when something happens.

This is a really weird time for the Padres. And it appears to be spreading throughout the system. Saturday night at Elsinore, I saw a guy trotting to first on a walk get nailed by a throw from the catcher.

Anyway, I guess the Joe Randa era begins today. Hooray, Joe Randa.

  1. Ovberpaid, my ass…

  2. I know it is dangerous to speculate like this, or at least maddening, but how much more would we have liked that hit earlier? arrrghh!

  3. Wagner in with a four-run lead? That’s a fair fight.

  4. What is the fewest wins ever by a playoff team?

  5. The only good thing about this road trip is that it’s over.

  6. EY pinch-hitting to end the game. I have to wonder at this point whether Nady will even have the starting job if Nevin leaves. The repeated votes of no-confidence in X are really pissing me off. So is the 7-game losing streak. Now we come home to face the Cardinals? I need to get out for a bit. Brian’s right: I’ve become Mr. Cranky Pants.

  7. Yesterday it was NL East 5, NL West 0. So far today it’s looking like the same thing.

  8. Kevin,

Pretty sure 83 is the fewest ever for a division winner.

  9. I’m beyond tired of watching Bochy put the team in a position to fail. They’re not good enough to overcome his management.

  10. The 1973 Mets won the NL East with a 82-79 (.509) record. Obviously, they played 161 games, but the percentage is about the same as the Padres current percentage (.505).

  11. The Royals won the AL West with a 84-78 (.519) record in 1984.

  12. Washington Post indicates that the deal probably will go through:
