In-Game Discussion: Padres vs Mariners (24 Jun 2005)

matchup: Darrell May (1-1, 4.76 ERA) vs Gil Meche (7-4, 4.64 ERA)

Padres end up with a disappointing split of a four-game series with the Dodgers. The Friars are pretty clearly the best team in the NL West. They’re also pretty clearly going to get smoked in the playoffs if they can’t put away the likes of D.J. Houlton and Elmer Dessens. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

This weekend sees the storied Padres/Mariners rivalry renewed. I don’t know why, but I always get so amped for this rivalry. Maybe it’s the double espressos. Yep, I’m pretty sure it’s the double espressos.

    ps. Ouch, my first game at Petco … and Darrell may is starting … I sure hope that Shilaleah thing works! It’s easy to be in a bit of bitter mood after 2 tough losses to the Dodgers … I’ll bet I shake out of it once I hit the ground in San Diego :-)

    Hey, where was everybody … OH YA, we were AT THE GAME! What a blast it was … first and foremost, a BIG THANKS to Lance … a man with a heart as big as his mouth :-) :-) :-) And Richard, THANKS for the ride … you’re headed in a good direction … in more ways than one. Geoff, Peter, Rich, ’twas good! Turns out you guys are REAL … who’d a thunk it?

    After the Pizza Feed (even KT was disappointed that there was no pizza :-), I said hello to David Pease … we’ve v-known each other since rec.sport-baseball and a padres-mailing-list in the ’80s … I encouraged him to do this again next year … his reaction gave me the impression that that’s a no-brainer … so …
