first pitch: 11:20 a.m., PT
television: Channel 4
matchup: Jake Peavy vs Mark Prior
The matchup we’ve all been waiting for is here. Career numbers:
Age IP P/GS H/9 HR/9 BB/9 SO/9 ERA Peavy 24 465.1 96.0 8.30 1.10 3.29 8.30 3.48 Prior 24 446.2 107.1 7.92 0.87 2.74 10.70 3.08
Brian Giles is hitting .400/.538/.900 against Prior over 13 plate appearances. Current Cubs are hitting .167/.222/.292 against Peavy over 54 plate appearances. Jose Macias, of all people, has the lone homer.
And that one home run by Macias was in one of his TWO at-bats against Peav.
If we’re lucky, Baker will stick Macias in the starting lineup based on those two at-bats.
Damn you rain, damn you!
Game called … DH tomorrow … sigh.
In the mean time … we’re #6! http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=3925
Rained out on my day off. Now, I’m going to miss two games tomorrow. Fantastic.
Geez, it must be pouring out there for them to call the game so quickly. Well, that was anticlimactic (although not necessarily anticlimatic)…
San Diego walks: 46.
Baltimore + St. Louis + Tampa Bay + White Sox walks: 45.
Both the chicago.cubs.mlb.com & sandiego.padres.mlb.com show the next game’s pitching matchup as Lawrence v. Prior. Any ideas as to why?
Maybe they don’t want Prior throwing as late as possible, though a mere few hours shouldn’t make much difference. Perhaps they want it to be as warm as possible, to try and keep his arm from becomming stiff?
I dunno, but Wood / Peavy, while a good matchup, isn’t the one I was hoping for… Either way, I’m going to a long lunch tomorrow instead of today.
Is Lynn Henning of The Detroit News, the stupidest man alive? Not quite, but he’s campaigning for the title with gems like these:

Tomorrow’s games will be Peavy v. Wood & Lawrence v. Prior. It’s too bad.
