Tango’s Community Forecasts

TangoTiger is soliciting projections from readers (hat tip to Pat in the comments):

Go to the page of your favorite team, and put in the OPS (OBP+SLG) and ERA you expect from as many players as you feel comfortable. As well, if you can, note the number of games for the non-pitchers and the role for the pitchers. The players listed are on the 40-man roster.

Once the season starts, I’ll report the Crowds’ expectation, as well as those from the professional forecasting systems. Let’s see who has more insight.

Here is the Padres link. Give it a spin, then come back here and talk about it or anything else that’s on your mind. You know, the usual stuff.

Also, tonight’s game against the Angels will be broadcast on Channel 4. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. PT; we’ll have the IGD up and running at 6 p.m.

Finally, thanks to everyone who has bought the book. Thanks for the love, and keep spreading the word. Nothing less than total global domination will be accepted.

You can’t stop Padres fans, you can only hope to contain them.

  1. According to THT, It looks like Adam Eaton may be moved to the Phillies pen. Either him or Lieber. Too bad for Adam that he is having a terrible spring. I always liked him.

  2. Geoff, Ducksnorts and your book got a bit o’lovin over at MLB trade Rumors.

  3. First time poster here, saw the link from MLB Trade Rumors, and was just thrilled to see a Padres blog existed.

Is your book available pretty much everywhere? I live in Beaumont, so I might not be able to pick it up until the home opener if it’s only available in SD county.

  4. Hey, Phantom. Welcome! You can order the book directly at the following link:

It’s available as paperback or PDF download. Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy. :-)

  5. Another reason for the Padres to convert Matt Bush into a pitcher now:
Joe Nathan. I didn’t know he was drafted as a shortstop.
    The list grows longer.

  6. Re 5. how many night club bouncers did Joe Nathan bite?

  7. There was consensual biting.

  8. Re: 7 Nice!

  9. Observant piece by Rosenthal on bullpens in San Francisco and San Diego, contrasting what Bruce Bochy had before (Hoffman and Towers) against what he has now (Benitez? and [no name given; Hasbean, is it?]):

Is it just me, or are the Padres playing rather more night games this spring training? When you are trying to follow from England, it matters! Still, despite the win/loss record things look reasonably encouraging: the pitchers getting hit are those one has some confidence in turning it round (or those not likely to be needed later), and the hitting is at least giving a good number of batters early confidence (though some of them are people one hopes won’t be needed later).

  10. This is sort of a random comment, but is anyone else inspired by the performance Khalil has been giving recently? His spring started off abysmally, but he’s on-fire now and is leading the team in RBI.

How do his stats this spring compare to previous years?

  11. Yep, Khalil is bringin’ it. I regret a somewhat snarky comment I made earlier in the spring when he was nursing his oft-injured finger. I am no longer as concerned about his ability to contribute when the season opens.

Speakin of dudes how are contributing, should Laforest beat out Bowen?

  12. 11: It sure looks like he is making it a tough decision for Black, as are Sledge and PMac in LF. My money is on Bowen though. Just because of his experience.

  13. Phantom, there are actually quite a few Padre based Blogs, although I personally believe Ducksnorts is the best of them.

  14. 13) I wish I had known that all along. As a displaced San Diegan, I’m an absolute fiend for Pads info.

I’m personally thrilled to see the way Khalil has heated up recently. I’m a huge KG fan, and it was tough to swallow those first few ABs this spring. I’m hoping that this is his break-out year and that he proves to be a reliable solution for years to come.

  15. Welcome to the site, Phantom.

#14: not if he cannot play more than 100 games. I hope Khalil is healthy for the whole season and hits better.

    Free P-Mac!!!

  16. #7: Thanks. That was great.

  17. Welcome Phantom!

Not only is this a Pads blog . .. it’s got to be one of the best sports blogs on the ‘net. I’ve made it my homepage, b/c I always seem to get the most up to date information here.

  18. I’m looking for Kahlil “the Vulcan” to have a breakout year, too. I want to see what he can do in 150 games.

  19. Off-topic….

Mike Darr would have turned 31 tomorrow. RIP Mike.

  20. RE: 11, I am rooting for Monseiur LaForest just so I can use “Québécois” throughout the season.

  21. RE: 20, if you can properly pronounce Québecois (I don’t believe there’s a second aigu), I would be impressed.

I have the interesting honor of seeing the Padres’ last game at Le Stade Olympique because I was in Québec for a semester studying the culture and the language.

  22. I’d be impressed if Khalil had drawn even a single walk this spring. I know he has pop, but if he’s going to contribute even average offensive numbers during the regular season, he has to get on base more. And until he learns the strike zone and develops some plate discipline, his power will not be fully realized.

Agree with Nick G. DS has been my home page for quite a while now.
