Right-hander Dirk Hayhurst has been claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays. Dirk was gracious enough to chat with us not long ago. Although his Padre career lasted just 16 2/3 innings, it got his foot in the proverbial door. Here's wishing Dirk all the best in Toronto (one of my favorite cities) as he continues to pursue his baseball dreams. Also, Josh Bard and Shawn "What Am I Even Doing on This Team?" Estes have filed for free agency. Bard and Estes spent much of 2008 on the disabled list. I haven't commented on the Brian Giles waiver thing because, frankly, nothing happened. That said, because the Red Sox were involved, people are making a big stink, so here's my two cents. First off, pretty much everyone gets placed on waivers this time of year. That's not a news item. Second, I'm hearing a lot of nonsense about Giles' desire to win or whatever. I understand that the Boston media maybe feels a little jilted by his decision to remain in San Diego, but seriously, get over yourself. Padres vs Marlins 12:35 p.m. PT DIRECTV 726 (Fish feed) AM 1090, FM 105.7, XM 186 MLB, B-R Fun game Tuesday night. Nice to see Scott Hairston finally get on track -- two doubles, a homer, and an out to the wall in left-center works for me. Chip Ambres, Brian Myrow, and Joe Thatcher all were recalled to the big club before the game. Ambres got the start in right, singling and walking twice in his Padres debut. Myrow knocked his first big-league homer in the seventh while pinch hitting for starter Randy Wolf.
