Spring Sluggers

There has been recent discussion about whether spring training statistics are predictive in some way. John Dewan at ACTA Sports suggests they might be: For the most part, we agree with the common perception that they don’t have value. A bad spring training means nothing. An average spring training tells us nothing. Nevertheless, we did [...]

Your Padres’ No. 3 Hitter Is Not Your Padre’s No. 3 Hitter

One detail I neglected to mention yesterday is the fact that Orlando Hudson batted third in Saturday’s game against the Cubs. This seemed peculiar to me, but I gave it little thought until I later saw that Bud Black is planning to use Hudson in that spot during the regular season.

Padres Awards Dinner

The Padres held their annual awards dinner Wednesday night at the San Diego Hall of Champions. Thanks to their generosity, I had the pleasure of attending, along with folks from Friarhood, Gaslamp Ball, and RJ’s Fro. Corey Brock offers the facts; I offer impressions as a fan…

Brain Dump: Stuff in the Works

If I don’t share these with you, I risk not committing. Here are things I’m working on and hoping to publish at Ducksnorts or elsewhere over the next, oh, couple months or so…

4H Club, Part 2

Yesterday, we discussed the signings of Aaron Harang and Orlando Hudson. Today, we turn our attention to Brad Hawpe and Jed Hoyer.

4H Club, Part 1

Between the holiday season and a flu bug that refuses to leave, I have been negligent in my duties. Today, we start catching up and cover a couple of items that demand commentary.
