Triple-A — Portland 8, Tacoma 5
Matt Antonelli: 0-for-3, BB, SF
Chip Ambres: 1-for-5, HR
Brian Myrow: 0-for-4, BB
Will Venable: 1-for-3, BB, SB
Nick Hundley: 1-for-3, 2B, BB
Justin Huber (DH): 1-for-4, 2B
Luis Rodriguez: 3-for-4, 2B
Josh Geer: 6 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 3 HR, 1 BB, 2 SO, WP
Dirk Hayhurst: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 HR, 1 BB, 1 SO
Joe Thatcher: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 HR, 0 BB, 2 SO
The Beavers scored five runs over the final four innings to pull out the victory. A sac fly off the bat of Antonelli pushed Portland ahead in the ninth, with a two-run Ambres homer giving the visitors a little insurance… Three hits for Rodriguez — I need to talk crap about him more often… Thatcher continues to pitch brilliantly at Portland; I still think he can contribute at the big-league level if he just gains some consistency with his release point.
Double-A — San Antonio 5, Midland 2
Drew Macias: 2-for-4, SF
Chad Huffman: 2-for-4, 2 2B, HBP
Kyle Blanks: 2-for-5
Craig Cooper: 0-for-4
Jose Lobaton: 0-for-4
Will Inman: 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 BB, 11 SO, 2 WP (93 pitches, 64 strikes)
Jonathan Ellis: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 HR, 1 BB, 1 SO
Inman is making it extremely difficult for the skeptics to maintain their position. He’s got that K/9 up to 9.74.
High-A
No games scheduled in the Cal League.
Low-A — Fort Wayne 7, West Michigan 0
Drew Cumberland (SS): 3-for-4, BB, SB
Lance Zawadzki (2B): 0-for-2, BB
Justin Baum: 2-for-4, 2B, 3B, BB
Felix Carrasco: 0-for-2, 3 BB
Yefri Carvajal: 1-for-5
Brad Chalk: 2-for-4, BB
Shane Buschini: 1-for-3, BB
Matt Teague: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 HR, 1 BB, 2 SO (11 GO)
Cumberland has collected three hits in five of his last nine games… He’s raised his batting average from .248 to .285 during that stretch.
Short-Season-A — Spokane 7, Eugene 4
Sawyer Carroll: 2-for-5
Emmanuel Quiles: 0-for-3, BB, PB
Jeudy Valdez: 3-for-4, E
Pablo Menchaca: 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 HR, 2 BB, 2 SO (7 GO)
Nice day at the plate for Valdez; unfortunately his error in the fifth led to four unearned runs.
I’m a little late on this, but long-time reader LynchMob made it out to the Emeralds home opener on Sunday and was kind enough to share photos of the event as well as a video of Carroll. Sweet!
Rookie
No games in the Arizona League on Monday.
What is really interesting about Inman is that he has better numbers on the road than he does at home – San Antonio is very much a pitcher’s park.
6-1, 2.39 ERA, 60/22 K/BB and 52.2 IP/40 hits
#1@John Conniff: Somebody on DePo’s blog threw out a Tyler Clippard comp for Inman the other day. Statistically it’s closer than we’d all like, which isn’t destiny but is food for thought.
For some reason I’d thought of Clippard as an overaged prospect, but he’s not. Almost exactly 2 years older than Inman, but he made his major league debut at 22 and has 135 Triple A innings.
#2@Tom Waits: Clippard is 19th on Inman’s list of comparable pitchers. Jake Peavy and Yovani Gallardo are both in his top 8.
