- Nady ready to start Opening Day (Padres.com). He’ll be in the lineup Opening Day against Joe Kennedy, just not sure where. Nady went 3 for 5 with two doubles and his fifth homer of the spring, a three-run walkoff shot in the bottom of the tenth, in Tuesday’s 13-12 win over the Rangers.
- Roberts’ painful groin puts a strain on roster (U-T). Surprise, he may not be ready to go on Opening Day. That would put Nady in center and possibly Adam Hyzdu on the roster depending on whether a trip to the DL is needed. More on the situation at the NC Times.
- 2005 NL West EWSL Report (Baseball Crank). The Crank uses Established Wins Shares Levels to examine the NL West and finds the division to be lacking. His system sure likes Khalil Greene, but who doesn’t?
Padres vs Aztecs tonight at Petco, 7 p.m. Or if you’re lazy, cheap, and in town like me, catch it on Channel 4. Maybe we’ll get an in-game discussion going.
I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know how those Established Win Share Levels are calculated, but those projected win totals seem ridiculous.
Geoff,
What a shocker to see Dave Roberts having problems with his legs. I had May in the pool but I lose already. Guess that pilates didn’t pay off for the little fella.
Maybe a loyal reader can help me out some. I’ve been trying to look up info on college teams playing exhibitions against pro teams, especially with U of Miami beating the Marlins earlier this year. I haven’t had much luck so far but if anyone knows a great resource, if they could email me, I’d be quite grateful.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Dave Roberts’ legs. He’s not meant to play baseball every day, but he thinks he is, God bless him.
Also — given that Bochy’s contract negotiations have been put on hold, that’s the message right there that the Pads are serious about winning. Even if losing is the front office’s fault (viz., trusting CF to a fragile fellow).
Scott: I agree about the wins totals. Seem very low to me. BTW, did I used to work with you?
Ed, Rob: I don’t really know what to say other than I hope that Nady makes the most of his opportunities this year.
Yes…I’ve been lurking. Great blog.
Sweet. Glad you’re enjoying it…
